Shubman Gill's Masterstroke To Defy Mohammed Siraj Gets Zak Crawley Out
Shubman Gill's strategic field placement led to Zak Crawley's dismissal, aiding India's defense of a 608-run target against England in the second Test at Edgbaston.
In what came as a masterstroke from India Test skipper Shubman Gill, his idea to not place a fielder where Mohammed Siraj wanted to, helped India bag a quick result, as England opener Zak Crawley was caught out by Sai Sudharsan, sent back to the pavilion for a seven-ball duck.
Gill 's belligerent 161 and half-centuries from KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja helped India set a target of 608 runs against England in the second Test in Edgbaston.
Coming in to chase a whopping 608 to win the Test, Akash Deep and Siraj kept their lines and lengths intact as Crawley and Ben Duckett couldn't get out of the trap.
' Main udhar ki baat kar raha hu. Udhar bhi hai (I am talking about that position. One fielder is there as well)," Siraj was heard telling Gill on the stump mic.
' Udhar catch jaayega. Pichhle mein bhi udhar out hua hai, maan le. Ye waisa wicket nahi hai, Leeds wala wicket nahi hai. Normal daal (A catch would go there. He was dismissed there in the last innings as well. This wicket is not like the Leeds one)," Gill replied.
Siraj bowled a wide delivery next, Crawley played a loose drive and holed out to Sai Sudharsan at backward point. It was the seventh duck for England in the Test.
Akash Deep struck twice and Siraj once as India made initial inroads against England, who reached 72/3 in pursuit of a mammoth 608-run target, at the end of play on Day Four in the second Test in Edgbaston.

Shubman Gill Reveals Father's Message After 269: 'He Told Me I Missed 300'
Last Updated: Shubman Gill's father Lakhwinder Singh was proud of his 269 but reminded him about him missing a 300! The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shared a wholesome video of captain Shubman Gill's day out at Edgbaston on Thursday during the second Test between India and England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Apart from the behind-the-scenes of his interactions with media and various fans on the ground and in the team hotel, it also revealed his parents, Lakhwinder Singh and Keart Gill's audio message for him. Gill smashed 269 (387) in India's first innings of the Test. It was not just his highest score but also the chart-topper for Indians in Tests outside Asia and for Indian captains, ever. Lakhwinder felt proud and peaceful at seeing his son's marathon knock, saying that it reminded him of his childhood days. However, Gill revealed that he also reminded him that the 25-year-old missed the chance to score a triple-century. 'Shubman beta, well played. I really enjoyed watching your batting. It gave me a lot of peace of mind. When you were younger, under 16 or 19, you used to bat like that. And I felt very proud," Lakhwinder can be heard saying in the video via Gill's phone. 'It was very nice to see your batting. Keep going. God bless you," Keart adds in the message. Gill spoke next and mentioned how much it means to him, given he started playing the sport for his father. 'I went to the pool for some recovery, came back, and showered… This message means a lot to me," he said. 'I think growing up, I played almost all of my cricket for my dad. In the sense that it was because of him that I started playing cricket. And the only person, he and my best friend, whom I practiced with. These are the only two people, when it comes to my cricket, that I care about and that I listen to. So, it means a lot coming from him. But he did also tell me that I missed my triple century. Hopefully, we will end this match on a great note," he added with a smile. Gill's knock helped India score 587/10 in the first innings. England were 77/3 at stumps. His 269 in the first innings was a masterclass in patience and shot selection, coming against a spirited English attack under overcast skies.
