Shubman Gill's father Lakhwinder Singh was proud of his 269 but reminded him about him missing a 300!
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shared a wholesome video of captain Shubman Gill's day out at Edgbaston on Thursday during the second Test between India and England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Apart from the behind-the-scenes of his interactions with media and various fans on the ground and in the team hotel, it also revealed his parents, Lakhwinder Singh and Keart Gill's audio message for him.
Gill smashed 269 (387) in India's first innings of the Test. It was not just his highest score but also the chart-topper for Indians in Tests outside Asia and for Indian captains, ever. Lakhwinder felt proud and peaceful at seeing his son's marathon knock, saying that it reminded him of his childhood days. However, Gill revealed that he also reminded him that the 25-year-old missed the chance to score a triple-century.
'Shubman beta, well played. I really enjoyed watching your batting. It gave me a lot of peace of mind. When you were younger, under 16 or 19, you used to bat like that. And I felt very proud," Lakhwinder can be heard saying in the video via Gill's phone.
'It was very nice to see your batting. Keep going. God bless you," Keart adds in the message.
Gill spoke next and mentioned how much it means to him, given he started playing the sport for his father.
'I went to the pool for some recovery, came back, and showered… This message means a lot to me," he said. 'I think growing up, I played almost all of my cricket for my dad. In the sense that it was because of him that I started playing cricket. And the only person, he and my best friend, whom I practiced with. These are the only two people, when it comes to my cricket, that I care about and that I listen to. So, it means a lot coming from him. But he did also tell me that I missed my triple century. Hopefully, we will end this match on a great note," he added with a smile.
Gill's knock helped India score 587/10 in the first innings. England were 77/3 at stumps.

Jasprit Bumrah, who did not feature in the 2nd Test, will likely return to spearhead the bowling attack again. He is expected to replace Prasidh Krishna, who has had a torrid time in both Tests. Krishna was quite expensive in the 1st innings at Edgbaston. He went wicket-less and 72 runs were hammered off him in just 13 overs. He had some resurgence in the 2nd innings, as he bowled 14 overs this time and gave away just 39 runs, picking up one scalp as well. Nevertheless, with Bumrah set to be available, Prasidh may sit out at Lord's. Thus, he could be replaced in the 3rd Test. However, the question is who will come in at his place? Shardul Thakur presents a case and so does Kuldeep Yadav, but Thakur's inclusion will give depth in batting, and hence Shardul will carry some weight-age in case Reddy gets benched. On the other hand, Kuldeep Yadav has emerged as a primary wicket-taker for India in the white ball formats, thus he deserves a chance to showcase his mettle in the white jersey as well. However the bottom line is that, since India are coming off a victory at Edgbaston, coach Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill may not want to experiment with the balance of the squad. Team India's predicted playing XI for Lord's Test The predicted playing XI for India could be: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Karun Nair, Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Kumar Reddy / Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Washington Sundar.
