Former Mamelodi Sundowns star missing for over a month
Mngomeni's sister, Pat Maki, expressed the family's rising distress, revealing that not even those who typically know his whereabouts have a clue about his current location.
'I'm Thando's older sister, and as a family, we are deeply concerned because no one knows where he is, we're all looking for him. Even those close to him, who would usually know his whereabouts, have no idea where he is,' she said, as quoted by Soccer Laduma .
According to Maki, her last interaction with Thando took place on 16 June, a public holiday when they spent time together. She last saw him at their home in Gugulethu around 17 or 18 June, waiting for a friend named Musa to pick him up.
'I last spoke to him on June 16, which was a public holiday, and we were together. I last saw him a day or two later. He was waiting for his friend Musa to come and pick him up.'
But Musa has reportedly told the family he also hasn't seen Thando since that day. He said the two of them left together with Thando's girlfriend, who might be the last person to see him.
The family has struggled to trace any reliable leads, and conflicting accounts surrounding Thando's girlfriend have only intensified their worry. Maki said the girlfriend becomes defensive when asked about Thando's location, refusing to answer their questions.
'A guy we spoke to said he saw Thando and his girlfriend coming out of a B&B, and that Thando told him they were heading to Johannesburg. But when we spoke to the girlfriend, she claims she doesn't know where he is. She gets upset and doesn't want to be questioned about him.'
Efforts by Thando's older brother Thabo to contact her have proven fruitless, as she reportedly denied making any statements about his whereabouts.
The family also received a mysterious voice note claiming Thando is alive and well but does not want to reveal his location. However, they remain sceptical, as they have no idea who recorded it or whether it's trustworthy.
'There's also a voice note going around saying Thando is fine and that we shouldn't worry, but he doesn't want anyone to know where he is. All we're asking is that he at least says something to confirm that he's safe.'
With rumours placing Thando in areas such as Khayelitsha and other unnamed locations, the Mngomeni family continues their desperate search. Clinging to hope and urging anyone with information to come forward.
If you have any leads regarding the former Mamelodi Sundowns star Mngomeni's whereabouts, please contact the family or local authorities immediately. Every detail could bring them one step closer to finding him.

Mamelodi Sundowns' talisman Lucas Ribeiro ecstatic with the season of triumphs, and teamwork
MAMELODI Sundowns talisman Lucas Ribeiro looking up to launch another spectacular season at Chloorkop. | MS/Facebook Ribeiro had his best season in the famous yellow and green jersey of Sundowns last campaign, scoring 21 and registering 14 assists in 51 games. Lucas Ribeiro is on cloud nine after winning big at the 2024/25 season PSL awards, and he's grateful for the support his teammates and coaches gave him. The Brazilian also starred at the Club World Cup in the US, scoring the Goal of the Tournament for his strike against German giants Borussia Dortmund in the group stage. And for his domestic efforts, he bagged the league's coveted Footballer of the Season, Player's Player of the Season, Goal of the Season and Top Goal Scorer of the Season awards. 'It was a very good season, and the team played very well,' Ribeiro told the Brazilians' media team after the award ceremony on Tuesday night. 'There was fatigue this season because we played so many games, but I am happy with individual trophies. 'I didn't play alone though. My teammates helped me a lot, and gave me support. So, thank you to them and the coach (Miguel Cardoso) - the guy helped me to elevate my level as a player.' Being crowned the Footballer of the Season - an award that's voted for by the 16 coaches in the league - is one of the greatest recognition a player can get. But, Ribeiro didn't want to single out his favourite trophy, saying: 'I like every trophy because they are all important to me. It was a crazy season for me, so all four mean a lot.' Ribeiro and Co are set to be in for another 'crazy season" as expectations have mounted on them to improve after their impressive display at the World Cup last month. As such, after coming back for pre-season, they started with their preparations at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium as their base, Chloorkop, is undergoing renovations. From thereon, they camped in Rustenburg before returning to Atteridgeville to finetune their preparations for the MTN8 quarter-final against Richards at the same venue on Sunday. 'Training was good,' said Ribeiro. 'I am happy with training, and I am back at training to help my team. I worked well with the players and the coaches.'

Gareth Cliff speaks out on 'murdered' black farmer
Gareth Cliff has spoken out about Tshwane farmer Jerry Boshoga, who was kidnapped last year. This week, reports emerged that the businessman had been murdered, claims police have labelled 'misinformation'. Cliff's comments come weeks after he spoke to Piers Morgan on a panel discussion about allegations of 'white genocide' and concerns of farm murders in South Africa. He also addressed legislation he believes 'discriminates' against white South Africans. In an X post, Gareth Cliff reacted to a post about Tshwane farmer Jerry Boshoga. In allegations that authorities have since disputed, X user @Lebona_cabonena posted: 'Jerry Boshoga, a prominent farmer and businessman who went missing in November, has been found dead'. Cliff retweeted the post, adding: 'Tragic. Our government needs to take farm murders seriously.' Unbeknownst to Gareth Cliff, the South African police have cautioned South Africans about reposting 'fake news' about the farmer. It shared in a statement this week: 'Unverified social media accounts have shared misleading and false information claiming that Mr Boshoga has been found deceased. 'The SAPS can confirm that the investigation into his kidnapping is still at a very sensitive stage, and the businessman has not been found alive nor deceased. We therefore call on all social media users to STOP THE SPREAD OF UNVERIFIED INFORMATION'. According to the SABC, Tshwane farmer Jerry Boshoga was reportedly kidnapped on 18 November last year. After his disappearance, videos of the 46-year-old being gagged and tortured went viral. His alleged kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of R25 million, but reduced it to R10 million. In one distressing clip, Boshoga pleaded with his mother, 'Please pay, pay now so they can release me. It is too bad. I really need you, please, mother. Please come and pay. Please pay everything that they want. I am begging you …' Police have confirmed that the investigation into Boshoga's disappearance is active and 'sensitive'. Mamelodi Sundowns: Lucas Ribeiro returns, Shalulile's potential exit
Mamelodi Sundowns are gearing up for their MTN8 challenge against Richards Bay at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Brazilians recently returned to training after participating in the FIFA Club World Cup last month. With just three weeks of rest, Miguel Cardoso's men are again back in action and will look for a good start to their 2025.26 season. Downs forward, Lucas Ribeiro, was rumoured with an exit, but the 26-year-old is back with the team and raring to go. 'It's been a very good season,' the Brazilian attacker said. 'The team played well, and it wasn't an easy season because we played many games, but I am very happy to have won individual trophies,' Ribeiro said. 'I don't play alone; I owe this to my teammates, the club Mamelodi Sundowns, the supporters, and the coach. The coach put my level very high, and I am very happy.' 'Training today [Thursday] was good, I'm very happy, I'm back for training for my team. I'm very happy with the training. 'It's a very important game; the supporters must give everything, push the guys on the pitch. It's very important. It'll be a good game on Sunday.' One Mamelodi Sundowns attacker destined to leave is Peter Shalulile. The Namibian has been linked with a move to North African giants Esperance. Since Cardoso took over, the experienced striker has seen little gametime and could be plotting a move away from Chloorkop after he left the Masandawana camp on Friday, as per FARPost. Shalulile has scored a record of 130 goals in 290 games across his PSL career with both Mamelodi Sundowns and Highlands Park.
