Watch: Lions fans slam 'stupid' Pollock after igniting fight

Extra.ie22-07-2025
The British and Irish Lions just about got the job done on Tuesday after narrowly beating First Nations & Pasifika XV 19-24 in Melbourne.
Leinster back Jamie Osborne was one of the highlights in a lacklustre performance after scoring two tries in his first Lions appearance.
However, there was a brief moment in the first-half that caught fans' eyes when England's Henry Pollock found himself in a pushing and shoving match with FNP's second try-scorer Seru Uru. Henry Pollock's antics got mixed reactions on social media. Pic: Brendan Moran/Sportsfile
The WWE-style fight was very much ignited by the Lions man but fans believe there was a bit of regret in his eyes before he was wiped out by the Fijian-born Australian flanker.
Fans took to social media to slam Henry over his 'childish' antics that led to him getting thrown to the floor.
One fan wrote: 'I know who I fancy in a scrap and it isn't the posh 20 year old public school boy.'
Another added: 'Lucky the referee was there to stop Pollock getting taught a real lesson.'
A third commented: 'Sooner or later Pollock is going to be laid out. That boy consistently bites off more than he can chew. To loosely quote Top Gun: 'His ego is writing cheques his body can't cash'. Tick tick on that.'
Yet another said: 'Pollock yet to learn an important life lesson, no matter how hard you think you are there's always someone harder out there.'

However, it wasn't all negativity being thrown at the young player online.
One supporter shared: 'The comments are embarrassing. You are meant to support your team.'
Another remarked: 'There was a moment in that schmozzle where Pollock's life literally flashed before his eyes. In fairness to him, after the initial shock, he doubled down and fought back.'
There was a TMO review of the incident but the referee decided that a lecture was enough for the pair of them.

Ryan the best for Ireland in Singapore, McSharry confirms intention to keep swimming

SHANE RYAN WAS the best of the Irish on the penultimate morning of racing at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, as Mona McSharry closed out her championships the intention to keep racing internationally. Olympic bronze medallist McSharry ended her World Championships in the 50m breaststroke on Saturday morning after a rough 48 hours saw her out of the pool with a stomach bug. The Sligo woman, who swam the semi-final of the 100mbreaststroke earlier this week, clocked 31.28 to finish eighth in her heat. The 24-year-old spoke after the race. 'I've been pretty sick and it's tough to get out of bed the last few days, so considering that I was able to get up and race today, I can't just can only but be happy with it. Sadly it's not the end to the worlds I wanted, but we just kind of take it and accept it.' Asked about the new season and year ahead, McSharry confirmed her intention to keep going. 'It kind of just fuels me, honestly. I think kind of coming after the Olympics last year, I was just ready for a break, and I do think that kind of taking five months off really helped me power through this season, and honestly I'm kind of excited to just get back in and keep training. Advertisement 'Maybe take a short break, but then kind of get straight back into it and just prepare for the World Cups (October) and, you know, everything else coming up.' 'I think I kind of had a real realisation at this competition that I'm not ready to be done yet. I'm not cutting myself short or anything, so I'm waiting until I really feel like I want to be finished, and if that's not yet, then that's fine. You know, I'll carry on as long as I'm excited and enjoying it.' Shane Ryan, swimming the 50m Backstroke for only the second time this year, won his heat in 24.96 seconds, but was nineteenth overall and outside of the semi-final places by just seven hundredths of a second. 'Coming in this meeting was a lot, I mean, I'm moving out of Ireland and moving into the States, So, I've been kind of dealing with a lot of stuff outside the water. 'I'm happy with it, but, like, still feels really uncomfortable because I haven't been training backstroke because of my shoulders. I'm mainly trying to swim the fly and the free. I mean, the 50 fly was a little disappointing, but I got like a stomach bug before coming into it, so that kind of took away from a lot of it. 'But I mean, hey, I gave it everything I got this morning.' Danielle Hill also closed out her championships on Saturday morning. The Larne swimmer was just on her season's best 25.22, clocking 25.24 to place eighth in her heat. 'It's a bittersweet one again, because you swim your best time and you're in there. I've got to find a way, as I have been trying to the past couple years, to get those best performances in the morning. 'I have had a long season. To be here is one thing, but I've got to find a way now and sit down and try and get those fast performances in the morning. 'It's actually probably the first time where I like wish the new season would just start tomorrow. I feel ready to go already and just like want to put my head back down and fix the things that I know I can fix. 'I don't think there's a lot there that needs to be fixed. I think I just need to keep my body healthy and as an athlete, you know, that is the most important thing. So yeah, like I'm really excited for next season.' On Sunday, the final day of competition in Singapore, Ellen Walshe, already a two-time finalist at these championships swims her main event, the 400m Individual Medley. Walshe will need a top eight finish to advance to the final. Ireland will also be represented in the Men's 4x100m Medley Relay by John Shortt (Backstroke), Eoin Corby (Breaststroke), Jack Cassin (Butterfly) and Evan Bailey (Freestyle), all four are team mates at Swim Ireland's National Centre in Limerick.

Lions player ratings after Wallabies win third test

In what was a mad game with a lightning stoppage and biblical rain in Sydney, the Wallabies won 22-12 to make sure the series didn't end in a whitewash for the British and Irish Lions. The Wallabies were up for it from the start and the heavy rain suited them perfectly, with the likes of Will Skelton and Taniela Tupou able to throw their weight around to huge effect. The game went a bit towards the messy side with rucks resembling a wrestling match at points. It's the first Lions series win since 2013 and they can all now celebrate it. They'll quickly forget about today no doubt. Tadhg Furlong. Pic: Brendan Moran/Sportsfile Andrew Porter 5 Tough one in the rain but Lions as a whole lost the physical battle. Dan Sheehan 6 Lineouts went awry once Itoje and Ryan were off unfortunately. Andrew Porter. Pic: DAVID GRAY/AFP via Getty Images Tadhg Furlong 5 A historic ninth test start in-a-row but wasn't to be. Maro Itoje (C) 5 Hard one for Itoje as he went off with HIA but was part of the pack that was losing physical battle. James Ryan 6 He was probably the Lions' best chance of stopping Skelton but an unfortunate collision ended his game. Tom Curry Pic: INPHO/Dan Sheridan Tadhg Beirne 7 Went until the very end. Undoubtedly one of the best players this series. Tom Curry 7 Not far behind Beirne, Curry answered all critics this series, fair play to him. Maro Itoje getting tackled. Pic: Brendan Moran/Sportsfile Jack Conan 7 Another solid display, with 6 tests starts now Conan has to be considered a Lions great. Jamison Gibson-Park 7 Was a tough one in conditions but some crucial defensive plays kept Lions in it. Finn Russell 5 Not the night for a player like Russell, but he's been great this tour. Jamison Gibson-Park. Pic: Steve Christo/Sportsfile Blair Kinghorn 5 Rough night out there for wingers. Hard to do much when the ball is so tight to ruck. Bundee Aki 5 Some poor handily but understandable in the miserable conditions. Bundee Aki on the attack Pic: INPHO/Billy Stickland Huw Jones 5 Shifting out onto the wing didn't help but held his own out there. Tommy Freeman 4 Wasn't a game for wingers with the weather and was also unfortunate with HIA. Hugo Keenan. Pic: Brendan Moran/Sportsfile Hugo Keenan 6 Did very well aerially, especially considering conditions. Some of his catches helped Lions stay in the game. Substitutes 7 Jac Morgan and Ellis Genge were particularly impactful when they came on. Some big shifts from Ollie Chessum and Owen Farrell having to come on in the first half. Andy Farrell. Pic: Brendan Moran/Sportsfile Andy Farrell 6 Tour was already won so doubt Farrell will be too upset about the result. 6/2 split bit the Lions and choosing to keep with Freeman who came into the game with an injury probably wasn't wise in hindsight, though his substitution was unrelated to his injury but a HIA. He could still be in contention for the next tour but who knows for now. A deserving reward after all his great work with Ireland.
