Perak On Right Track For Post-pandemic Socioeconomic Recovery- MB
LENGGONG, June 30 (Bernama) -- Perak is on the right track in its post-pandemic socioeconomic recovery efforts and has laid out various initiatives for the well-being of its people by 2030, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
He said that as the Perak Sejahtera 2030 development plan enters its third year, there have been significant improvements in the people's standard of living.
'Since its launch on June 15, 2022, 108 out of the 272 outlined projects and initiatives have been completed. Another 128 are currently in progress, while the remaining 36 are at the pre-implementation stage.
'The state government has also identified 127 new projects to be listed in the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Dashboard for systematic monitoring and progress reporting,' he said when presenting the Third-Year Progress Report of Perak Sejahtera 2030, here today.
He noted that as the plan enters its fourth year of implementation, the state government remains committed to accelerating the development of five economic growth nodes and exploring new economic sectors.
Saarani said the state government is also mobilising efforts to further strengthen Perak Sejahtera 2030 by exploring new revenue sources, particularly in the Blue, Green, and Care Economies, to boost sustainable state development.
'The various initiatives carried out over the past three years have shown encouraging progress, reflecting the state government's determination to bring about positive changes for the people,' he said.
According to Saarani, several economic indicators show that Perak has successfully risen from the downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
'The state was once on the brink of recession, with a deficit of RM70 million, but we have rebounded with a surplus for three consecutive years, including RM64 million in 2023, the highest in Perak's history.

Ahmad Zahid wants Malaysia's rural agenda to serve as regional model for Asean
PUTRAJAYA: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expressed hope that Malaysia's rural development agenda can serve as a model for the Asean region. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister, said his ministry would continue to elevate the rural development agenda to the regional stage when it hosts the Asean Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on the Asean Master Plan on Rural Development again this October. In addition, Malaysia would host the Asean+3 Forum on Empowering Rural Women and Digitalisation. "Let us use this platform to showcase our best practices and position Malaysia's rural development agenda as both a regional aspiration and reference point. Malaysia must set the example for the entire region," he said at the Rural and Regional Development Ministry's monthly assembly here on Tuesday (July 1). Ahmad Zahid said his ministry has been given the mandate to plan rural community development, with an allocation of nearly RM12bil, of which RM3.37bil has been spent to date. He said the recently launched Desa Kirana initiative was being hailed as a game changer in the lead-up to Visit Malaysia 2026. According to him, the initiative aims to boost rural tourism and strengthen the local economy by empowering cultural heritage, natural attractions, traditional cuisine, handicrafts and a variety of rural-based activities. "I hope to one day see our rural gems - from Arau to Kudat, from Sabah's interior to the coast of Sarawak - emerge as world-class tourist destinations. Just like Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland, Hobbiton in New Zealand, Shirakawa-go in Japan, or Ubud in Bali - places that were once quiet but now stand proudly on the global tourism map," he said. Ahmad Zahid also said that his ministry would organise a three-dimensional Mega Carnival, which will bring together three major events simultaneously: the Rural Entrepreneur Carnival, Felda Settlers' Day, and the One District One Industry initiative. "This marks another major shift - a strategic effort to elevate rural entrepreneurs and strengthen the rural entrepreneurship ecosystem at both the national and international levels," he said. Meanwhile, he also called on the ministry's secretary-general, Datuk Muhd Khair Razman Mohamed Annuar, to review the existing training system. During the assembly, Ahmad Zahid expressed his appreciation for the dedication and hard work of the ministry's staff throughout his 940-day leadership of the ministry. – Bernama

JS-SEZ, RTS link to boost Johor property market
JOHOR BARU: Johor's property market is expected to enter a new phase of growth following the signing of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) agreement and the ongoing development of the Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link. Real estate services company Nawawie Tie said in a statement that residential property demand is expected to grow gradually particularly in the rental market. 'Residential property demand in Johor is led by locals, Malaysians working in Singapore, and Singaporeans with the JS-SEZ poised to attract greater foreign interest 'While residential property demand is expected to grow progressively, owner occupiers are likely to remain cautious until there is greater clarity on supporting policies and infrastructure rollouts. 'Landed properties continue to be the preferred choice for buyers, representing 65% of total transactions in Johor and the Johor Baru district accounted for 60% of these transactions,' according to the statement. Meanwhile, the industrial property market in the Johor Baru district is projected to thrive, driven by the expansion of the manufacturing sector and rising foreign direct investment. Johor is also emerging as a key regional hub for data centres, further boosting demand for industrial properties. In the first quarter of this year, a total of 353 housing units were transacted in Johor, with terraced units and semi-detached units being the most prominent. Johor Baru remains the preferred location for industrial players. — Bernama

Ringgit opens stronger as US$ weakens further
KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit extended its upward trend at Tuesday's open, buoyed by persistent weakness in the US dollar. At 8.01 am, the local currency strengthened to 4.1955/2160 against the greenback from Monday's close of 4.2060/2130. The US Dollar Index (DXY) slipped further to 96.875 as investors awaited key economic data, with the 90-day pause period approaching its end. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said the yields on two- and 10-year US Treasury notes declined by one and five basis points, respectively, as expectations grew that the US Federal Reserve (Fed) may ease monetary policy in the second half of the year. "President Trump continues to assert on social media that interest rates should be lowered. This reinforces the view that the next Fed chair may adopt a more dovish stance,' he told Bernama. Meanwhile, Brent crude slipped 0.24 per cent to US$67.61 per barrel. Market attention is on the upcoming OPEC+ meeting on Sunday, where member countries are expected to raise output quotas to reclaim market share. At the open, the ringgit was mixed against major currencies but mostly higher versus its ASEAN peers. It weakened against the Japanese yen to 2.9190/9335 from 2.9156/9206, slipped versus the British pound to 5.7617/7898 from 5.7597/7693, and eased against the euro to 4.9457/9698 from 4.9290/9372. The ringgit also depreciated against the Singapore dollar to 3.3009/3176 from 3.2986/3034, but gained on the Thai baht at 12.9331/13.0059 from 12.9356/9627, strengthened against the Indonesian rupiah to 258.3/259.7 from 259.0/259.5, and firmed against the Philippine peso to 7.44/7.49 from 7.46/7.48. - Bernama
