Lucknow: The state govt on Saturday reviewed 18 key challenges to improve scholarship distribution.
These include the requirement for fresh applications every year, delays in exam results, varying eligibility criteria across communities, arbitrary fee structures by private universities, weak monitoring systems, transaction failures and challenges faced by students studying outside the state.
"CM is determined to ensure that no eligible student is deprived of education due to lack of money. The govt is committed to making scholarship schemes simpler, transparent and effective," minister of state for social welfare Asim Arun said.
He said the rules will soon be updated so that more students can benefit. A unified portal and a digital monitoring system will make the application process easier. All departments concerned have agreed on creating uniform and transparent standards.
"A proposal has also been made to link the scholarship system with the Family ID to make eligibility verification easier and prevent fraud. Additionally, awareness campaigns will be launched to make sure students are well-informed about the schemes," he added.
Officials informed that the social welfare department is spearheading the development of an advanced integrated portal that would feature real-time notifications, and online document verification. Additionally, a facial recognition-based attendance system will be introduced to ensure only genuine beneficiaries receive support.
The scholarship schemes are designed to give equal opportunities to students from SC, ST, OBC, minorities, and persons with disabilities.

Kharge accuses BJP of betraying Chhattisgarh, says Congress will fight back

Raipur: At a charged public gathering in Raipur titled 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Samvidhan', Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge launched a sweeping attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led central government, accusing them of betraying the people of Chhattisgarh and undermining the Constitution. He accused them of undermining constitutional values, dismantling welfare schemes, and failing to address pressing national crises. In a speech marked by sharp political barbs and emotional appeals, the Congress chief positioned the Congress as the defender of India's democratic fabric and the voice of the marginalised. Kharge alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government is propped up by allies like Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu, claiming that Modi is 'walking on the legs of Nitish and Naidu' and could collapse without their support anytime. He accused the BJP of working in tandem with these allies to exploit the poor, while asserting that Congress workers are prepared to sacrifice their lives to protect the rights of the people. He criticised the BJP for failing to implement the reservation Bill passed by the previous Congress government, which aimed to expand quotas for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes. 'We worked to give reservations to ST, SC, and OBC, but till date there is no trace of the Bill,' Kharge said, calling it a betrayal of social justice. He also took aim at the BJP's economic promises, reminding the crowd that Modi had pledged to provide LPG cylinders at Rs 500 if elected. 'Today, the price is beyond Rs 900,' he said, adding that during Congress rule, even a Rs 1 hike in petrol prices would spark public protests—something he described as a 'trick' designed by the BJP to discredit the UPA government. He condemned PM Modi's absence from an all-party meeting convened after the Pahalgam terror attack, despite being invited. 'We all attended, but Modi did not,' he said. He also lambasted the Prime Minister for not visiting Manipur, where ethnic violence has claimed hundreds of lives and displaced thousands. 'Modi is visiting 50 countries but is not able to go to Manipur so far, why?' Kharge asked. 'Rapes are happening, people are being killed, houses are burning—but he hasn't gone there even once.' In a pointed reference to recent remarks from the RSS, Kharge read aloud from the BJP's own constitution, highlighting that the word 'secular' is enshrined in it. Without naming anyone, he criticised those who have called for the removal of the term from the Indian Constitution. 'They want to erase the word that protects the poor and underprivileged from all sections of society,' he said, warning that such efforts threaten the very foundation of India's democracy. Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Congress leader Sachin Pilot echoed Kharge's sentiments, criticising the BJP for dismantling welfare schemes, failing to provide employment, and neglecting farmers' needs. Baghel warned that the future of schoolchildren is at risk, while Pilot emphasised that the Congress would fight the 2028 elections with the same unity and resolve that brought them to power in the past. The rally marked a renewed push by the Congress to reclaim political ground in Chhattisgarh, positioning itself as the guardian of constitutional values and the voice of the voiceless.

Ponnam Prabhakar hits out at BJP for neglecting Telangana

HYDERABAD: Telangana BC welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Sunday criticised the BJP's newly appointed state president, N Ramchander Rao, for levelling allegations against the Congress govt. H e reminded Rao that the Narendra Modi-led central govt had, in its final years, made grand promises, incited division, and spread misinformation, without fulfilling key commitments such as providing 10 crore jobs, depositing 15 lakh into the accounts of the poor, and doubling farmers' incomes."The BJP govt at the Centre has deceived farmers, youth, women, the poor, and the SC, ST, BC, and minority communities. If we were to list your govt's failures, it would be as voluminous as the Ramayana and as lengthy as the Mahabharata ," Ponnam said. He further recalled that during the 2019 general elections, the BJP had promised monthly pensions for small and marginal farmers aged over 60, and a hike in the 6,000 Kisan Samman Nidhi as annual crop investment assistance. "Were these promises kept?" he asked. Ponnam accused the Centre of neglecting Telangana, questioning what the Modi govt had delivered to the state. Tamil Nadu government-run school, college hostels to be called 'social justice hostels' hereon: CM MK Stalin

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin on July 7 announced that the State-run hostels for underprivileged school and college students will be called as 'social justice hostels' hereon. He informed that under DMK rule, which is principled on social justice and inclusion, there would be 'no' kind of discrimination, be it gender or caste. He also asserted that all governments' programmes were aligned towards this goal. CM Stalin recalled that on April 29 this year, he had announced in the Assembly that the term 'Colony' would be removed from official records and public parlance as it symbolised 'oppression' and pointed at the 'connotation of untouchability'. Notably, he reiterated his request to PM Modi to amend the SC/ST community names that ends with 'n' and 'a' with 'r' in a measure to ensure their dignity. He also recalled the GO issued on June 25, on behalf of the School Education Department that stipulates measures to deter caste and communal conflict, weed out differences among school students and encourage harmony and virtues among them.
