‘Don't control me': Jaya Bachchan's fiery remarks during Op Sindoor debate
'It feels strange to say this because what happened looks like fiction to me. You read such things in books, you see them on screen. That people came like this, killed so many... It is really unreal,' she said during a debate on Operation Sindoor.
As members from the treasury bench made remarks, inaudible in the broadcast, Bachchan responded, 'I won't pay attention, but my ears are sharp. What can I do about that? I can't help it.'
Referring again to the treasury bench, she added, 'I will at least congratulate you for having such writers who come up with big names like Sindoor.'
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, who was seated next to her, was seen smiling.
Bachchan questioned the naming of India's precision strike against Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack, 'Why was this operation named Sindoor? Women's Sindoor has been wiped away.'
When treasury bench members interrupted again, she remarked, 'Either you speak or I will speak.'
BJP MP Surendra Singh Nagar, who was presiding over the House, said, 'Jaya ji, you address the Chair. Whatever you say will go on record.'
To this, Bachchan again looked towards the treasury bench and said, 'When you speak, I don't interrupt. When a woman speaks, I never interrupt. So please mind your tongue.'
She then turned to Priyanka Chaturvedi, who was seen gesturing with her right arm, and said, 'Priyanka, don't control me,' prompting laughter in the House, including from Chaturvedi herself.
Jaya Bachchan continued, 'After the abrogation of Article 370, I saw people proudly saying terrorism will end. 'We promise you.' What happened? These tourists went with that belief. 'We are going to Kashmir, it is paradise.' What did they get? You have destroyed the faith and trust of the people you made promises to.'

Parliament Monsoon Session: LS adjourned till 2 pm, RS for the day amid Opposition uproar
Opposition INDIA bloc MPs have submitted multiple notices demanding discussion on the Bihar electoral roll revision issue in both Houses of Parliament on Friday. According to an opposition leader, notices have been given for adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha and under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha demanding discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar. Rule 267 of the Rajya Sabha pertains to the suspension of a specific rule to allow for a motion on a particular matter. The opposition leader said they have pointed out in the notices that the exercise requires people to provide citizenship proof, which is ultra vires of the Constitution. They have also mentioned that the EC's move may potentially infringe upon rights of Parliament as Article 11 empowers Parliament to regulate the right to citizenship by law. INDIA bloc parties have been demanding a discussion on SIR and have also staged multiple protests inside and outside Parliament during the ongoing Monsoon session. The Opposition is also planning to take out a march to the Election Commission of India headquarters next week.

Opposition MPs write to Birla, seek special discussion on Bihar SIR
New Delhi, Aug 1 (PTI) Leaders of several Opposition parties, including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, on Friday wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, urging him to schedule a special discussion on the ongoing voter list revision in Bihar without any further delay. In their letter to Birla, the Opposition MPs expressed deep concern over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar, especially a few months before the state assembly elections. The signatories to the letter included Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Gandhi, Congress' Deputy Leader in the House Gaurav Gogoi, DMK's TR Baalu, NCP (SP)'s Supriya Sule, RSP's N K Premachandran, SP's Lalji Verma, TMC's Kakoli Ghose Dastidar, Shiv Sena (UBT)'s Arvind Savant and RJD's Abhay Kumar. 'We, the undersigned Members of Parliament representing various Opposition parties, wish to express our deep concern over the ongoing voter list revision in Bihar, especially a few months before the state assembly elections," the opposition MPs said in their letter. 'This is unprecedented. The Election Commission of India has indicated that similar exercises will soon be undertaken across the country. Given the widespread apprehension about the transparency, timing, and intent of this process, the matter requires the urgent attention of the House," they said. The Opposition has consistently raised this issue since the start of the current session, the MPs said. 'It was reiterated in several interactions with the Government, including the All-Party Meeting held on Sunday, July 20. While the Government has stated its willingness to discuss all issues, including this one, no date has yet been fixed for such a discussion," the letter said. The revision of electoral rolls has direct implications on the right to vote and the conduct of free and fair elections, the opposition MPs said . 'A special discussion in the Lok Sabha will allow Members to seek clarity and ensure transparency and accountability. We, therefore, urge you to schedule a special discussion on the ongoing voter roll revision without any further delay," they said in their letter to Birla. The opposition has been protesting in both Houses of Parliament against the SIR, alleging the EC's exercise was aimed at 'disenfranchising voters" in Bihar ahead of the Assembly elections.
