Why Gen Z is freaking out over The Love Hypothesis movie casting

India Today5 days ago
What do you get when you mix 'Star Wars' Rey and Kylo fan fiction, a best-selling romance novel, a former 'Riverdale' star, and 'Star Wars' Daisy Ridley's real-life husband? Nope, not the start of a really niche pub quiz. This is the actual casting news behind 'The Love Hypothesis' movie. If you don't know what I am talking about, then don't worry, it'll all make sense in the next few minutes. I promise. So, here's the thing. Ali Hazelwood, a renowned novelist, wrote a romantic-comedy novel called, and you guessed it, 'The Love Hypothesis'. It is about a third-year PhD candidate (Olive Smith) and a young professor (Adam Carlsen) who agree to fake date each other. Until Olive's best friend is convinced she is not single and definitely not in love with her best friend's crush. If you're a rom-com fan like me, I am sure this plot is calling for you. The book instantly became a fan favourite, and now they are converting it into a film. Now let's talk about why everybody (mostly me) is freaking out over the casting.Basically, Hazelwood's 'The Love Hypothesis' didn't start as a story dedicated to the genre (rom-com). It was originally fan fiction. Yes, Hazelwood, just like most of us, was fangirling (more like geeking) over 'Star Wars'. I mean, who wouldn't? And she was absolutely obsessed with Rey and Kylo Ren's relationship in the movie. And she wanted to write a cute romantic story filled with some comic scenes here and there.I am sure now you have some idea where this is leading to. If not? Here's more. Recently, the announcement for the book's adaptation came through. And 'Riverdale' star Lili Reinhart was announced to play Olive. But the real twist that no one saw coming (except maybe Tumblr circa 2016) was the casting of Tom Bateman as Adam Carlsen. Tom Bateman is the real-life husband of Daisy Ridley. Why is this a big deal? Because Daisy Ridley played Rey in 'Star Wars'. Yes, the same Rey who was the inspiration behind Olive's character. Honestly, you couldn't write this. Except someone literally did.advertisementHazelwood's 'Star Wars' fan fiction was posted online under the title 'Head Over Feet', with the OG couple. It got picked up by a publisher. The lightsabers were swapped for lab coats, but the core dynamic? Still there. Olive's socially awkward brilliance? Peak Rey. Adam's emotionally repressed academia? Classic Kylo. So, yes, 'The Love Hypothesis' has deep nerd roots, and I mean that in the most affectionate way possible.
Now to Tom Bateman. You might know him from 'Death on the Nile', 'Behind Her Eyes', or 'Vanity Fair'. He's got serious screen presence, brooding, charming, and effortlessly intense. Basically, he was built to play Professor Adam Carlsen. And when you factor in the fact that he's married to Daisy Ridley? That casting choice hits on so many levels.Fans online are losing it, naturally. One person wrote, 'He's married to Daisy Ridley. OMG full circle moment.' Another declared it 'the best uno reverse card in casting history.' Someone else chimed in with, 'Not Adam but Rey's husband playing Adam perfection.' Honestly? Fair enough. And let's not forget Lili Reinhart, who's not only starring as Olive but producing the film too. She's been vocal about wanting to do justice to this story, and between her casting and this cosmic Bateman-Ridley twist, it's safe to say the fans are being fed.Even if you haven't read the book, or don't know your Adam Carlsen from your Adam Driver, there is still something for you in store. If you're into rom-coms, emotionally complex science nerds, or geek out over fan theories that somehow become real, 'The Love Hypothesis' deserves a spot on your radar. Why? Because this casting is chaotic in the best way. A character inspired by Daisy Ridley's Rey now played opposite her real-life husband? That's fan fiction logic turned cinematic reality. It's unhinged in the most deliciously meta way, and it's got the internet in a chokehold. So yeah, grab your popcorn, fire up the group chat, and get ready to spiral. This one's for book lovers, fandom kids, and anyone who lives for a full-circle moment. You couldn't script even if you tried.- Ends

Not Danny Dezongpa, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Kapoor, this actor glamorized the villain culture, overshadowed 2 superstars in blockbuster film, movie name is…, he was…

Over the years, Bollywood has celebrated many memorable villains, Late Amrish Puri's magnetic Mogambo in Mr. India, Danny Denzongpa's chilling presence, Late Ajit Khan's suave evil masterminds with his famous 'Mona darling' flair, Sanjay Dutt's raw and intense character of Kaancha and Adheera, or the recent menacing portrayal of Arjun Kapoor as Danger Lanka. But this one actor from golden era, whose eerie laugh, chilling dialogues and sinister presence became an unforgettable memory etched in the hearts of cinephiles. Who was this villain? That menacing figure was Gabbar Singh from the classic film Sholay (1975), which was portrayed by legendary actor Late Amjad Khan, who rose from relative obscurity to stardom through this role, initially offered to another actor, but fate had other plans. Released with giants like Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra as leads, Sholay became a blockbuster and is often compared to Star Wars in its cultural impact. While the film itself was a massive hit, it was Gabbar Singh who overshadowed even the heroes; his lines 'Kitne aadmi the?' and 'Jo darr gaya… samjho marr gaya' remain iconic decades later. What other films were done by Amjad Khan? Amjad Khan went on to feature in over 130 films, playing intense antagonists in movies like Muqaddar Ka Sikandar (as Dilawar) and Parvarish. He was even rooted for humor, appearing in beloved films like Qurbani and Yaarana. His versatility impressed audiences in serious, comic and positive roles as well. His royal stance and subtle acting as Nawab Wajid Ali Shah in Satyajit Ray's film Shatranj Ke Khiladi (1977) was an invaluable contribution to Indian art cinema. The dignity with which he played the role of Akbar in 'Meera' (1979) became a standard in the portrayal of historical characters. More about Amjad Khan His performance changed the trajectory of character actors in Hindi cinema. He became the first on-screen villain to appear in a mainstream commercial advertisement, endorsing Britannia biscuits as Gabbar Singh himself. On July 27, 1992, Amjad Khan passed away at age 51 due to a heart attack, yet his legacy as Bollywood's ultimate antagonist remains vivid. Films like Sholay and its villain Gabbar Singh remain benchmarks for generations, with Amjad Khan's compelling portrayal continuing to define pure, unredeemed evil on screen.

Fans dive into San Diego Comic-Con despite drop in celebrity panels

By Rollo Ross and Danielle Broadway SAN DIEGO, July 24 (Reuters) - This year's Comic-Con may not be featuring as much star power as usual, but attendees dressed up for opening day on Thursday were just as pumped as ever to be there. Richard Cao, 38, from San Diego, said he has been preparing for a long time, getting into shape so he can go as bare-chested Inosuke Hashibira, a character from the anime series 'Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba'. "I lost about 30 pounds over six months, that's just the physical, I guess, investment I made," Cao said. This year's festivities at the San Diego Convention Center will not have the usual Hall H major A-list celebrity panels, which typically discuss popular movie franchises from the likes of Marvel and DC Studios. But highlights will include "Star Wars" creator George Lucas making his San Diego Comic-Con debut and Disney's "Tron: Ares" and "Predator: Badlands" panels. There will also be a panel for the upcoming film "Project Hail Mary" starring Ryan Gosling, and the world premiere of the 'King of the Hill' revival and a panel with show co-creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels. It is also the first year to include a two-day music festival called Crunchyroll Anime FanFest, hosted by Crunchyroll, an American subscription-based anime streaming service owned by Sony Group Corporation. The festival will feature anime music from popular titles, including "The One Piece 25th Anniversary Symphony Voyage," based on the popular anime series. Crunchyroll has over 13 million subscribers globally. Although hotel and overall travel prices continue to rise for those out of town, fans say they weren't deterred. "It's totally worth it," said Sophia Blanco, 39, from New York City who paid "a couple of thousands" for her entire trip. "You go on vacation, you do anything, you're spending money. So, just spend money on what you enjoy, no matter what you do," she added. (Reporting by Ross Rollo and Danielle Broadway; Editing by Edwina Gibbs) Sony Group Corp Walt Disney Co

'Star Wars' creator George Lucas to make Comic-Con debut

Comic-Con kicked off Thursday in California, with expectations running high among devoted fans keen to catch a glimpse of George Lucas at his first-ever appearance at the convention. Warriors, princesses, pirates, wizards, and all manner of costumed characters flooded the streets of San Diego on the first day of an annual event that has become one of the world's biggest celebrations of pop culture. "I waited for this the entire year," said 17-year-old Samantha, who came dressed as the pink Dino Ranger. "It's like Christmas for me!" added the young woman, who had traveled from Florida specifically to see panels for the shows "Miraculous" and "Hazbin Hotel." Other fans couldn't wait to enter the exhibition hall to hunt for memorabilia. George Lucas' First Appearance Comic-Con began holding events in San Diego in 1970, as a low-key and rather niche huddle, but has now grown to an annual get-together that attracts 130,000 people eager to hear behind-the-scenes tidbits from Hollywood stars and from directors unveiling their latest projects. This year's edition will be marked by the presence of legendary filmmaker Lucas, who has never visited the convention before despite Comic-Con culture being deeply rooted in his "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones" franchises. In a session on Sunday set to be moderated by Queen Latifah, Lucas will discuss the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art with Mexican director Guillermo del Toro and Oscar-winning artist Doug Chiang, who has shaped the iconic "Star Wars" universe for decades. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The museum, scheduled to open in Los Angeles next year, will be dedicated to illustrated narratives and will house the Lucas archive. "Nearly five decades ago, Star Wars made one of its earliest public appearances at our convention, along with a booth featuring (comic book artist) Howard Chaykin's now legendary Star Wars poster as a promotional item," said David Glanzer, Chief Communications and Strategy Officer. "Now, to have Mr. Lucas... is a true full-circle moment. His lifelong dedication to visual storytelling and world-building resonates deeply with us and our community." Alien, Predator, and the End of the World Marvel Studios will have a smaller presence at the convention this year, skipping its eagerly awaited annual presentation in Hall H. According to Variety, changes to the premiere of the new "Avengers" installment complicated logistics for the studio, whose cast is currently filming in Britain. But the absence didn't discourage fans who filled the coveted Hall H for its first panel with the cast of Disney's "Percy Jackson and the Olympians." With a sneak peek at the second season, which arrives in December, and news about cast additions for the confirmed third season, the panel moderated by comedian Timothy Simons delighted the massive audience. "Season two is epic," said executive producer Dan Shotz. "We are fighting incredible monsters. It is so massive and we cannot wait for you guys to see it." Author Rick Riordan announced via video that the third season, based on the third book in his series, will feature Levi Chrisopulos and Olive Abercrombie playing siblings Nico and Bianca di Angelo, children of Hades. Hall H on Friday will host the world premiere of the pilot episode of the prequel "Alien: Earth," directed by Noah Hawley and slated to hit streaming platforms in August. The series takes place a couple of years before the events depicted in Ridley Scott's 1979 film "Alien," offering an expansion of the venerated franchise. Another fan favorite that will have its moment in the spotlight is "Predator: Badlands," with a panel Friday set to include director Dan Trachtenberg, who revitalized the brand with "Prey" (2022). On Saturday, award-winning actor Ryan Gosling and directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (behind the new "Spider-Verse" trilogy) will present their "Project Hail Mary," which is due in theaters next year. The film, based on the book by Andy Weir ("The Martian"), follows Ryland Grace (Gosling), a former science teacher who wakes up on a spaceship to discover he's on a mission to save the Earth. Comic-Con runs until Sunday, July 27.
