SCOTLAND: Tattoo organisers make ‘difficult decision' to cancel performance due to storm
The world-famous music, marching, dance and fireworks extravaganza takes place in August each year on the Esplanade at Edinburgh Castle, and this year was scheduled to be held each day from August 1-23.
However on Sunday evening the organisers said Monday's event has been cancelled due to safety concerns resulting from Storm Floris, which is expected to bring gusts in excess of 60mph to the capital on Monday.
In a post on social media the organisers said: 'We're sorry to announce that due to adverse weather warnings, we have made the difficult decision to cancel tomorrow's performance on August 4 at 9:30pm.
'We understand this will be disappointing, but the safety of our audience, performers and staff is our top priority.
'All tickets for the August 4 performance will be automatically cancelled and refunded. Those wishing to rebook will find up-to-date availability at www.edintattoo.co.uk'.
Edinburgh is covered by a Met office amber weather warning on Monday, with a warning of damage to buildings and trees, possible power cuts, and transport problems as a result of high winds.
The Tattoo is not the only casualty of the bad expected weather – the Fringe by the Sea at North Berwick has also been cancelled on Monday as a result of Storm Floris.
In a social media post the organisers of the 10-day arts festival said: 'With Storm Floris incoming, we have taken the decision to close Fringe By The Sea today, Monday August 4.
'We will reopen on Tuesday August 5 from 10am.
'Ticket holders for events on Monday August 4 will be notified by email of cancellations or rescheduled events.
'Cancelled events will be refunded automatically – please bear with us while we work with our ticketing agent to process these transactions.'

Power has been restored to more than 60,000 homes after Storm Floris caused 'considerable' damage on Monday. The amber weather warning was issued for much of the country, lasting from 10am until 11pm. A second yellow alert, covering the whole of Scotland, was in place until midnight on Monday. A third yellow weather warning was in force covering Orkney and Shetland until 8am on Tuesday. In Wick, wind speeds of 82mph were recorded, with 81mph in the Fair Isle and 75mph in Tiree. More than 500 of SSEN's engineers and field staff, including teams who have travelled up from SSEN's south of England network region, are being assisted by around 200 people from contract partners and other network operators. A full assessment of the network and the damage caused by Storm Floris has been carried out. The SSEN has confirmed complex repairs will take place at multiple points. Work is still ongoing to reconnect a further 11,400 properties. SSEN's Director of Customer Operations for the north of Scotland, Andy Smith, said: 'Storm Floris has been unusually powerful, especially for a storm at this time of year. It's brought down many trees that have endured several previous storms, and it's caused some network damage. 'Today, we've been able to inspect the network from the air and from the ground, and we now have a complete picture of the extent of the damage. There's a considerable ongoing task to restore all customers' supplies, but we have an 800-strong team whose priority is to make repairs as safely and quickly as they can, keep customers updated, and support those awaiting reconnection. 'I'd like to thank our customers for their understanding and patience while we go about this massive task; we're doing our best to give people realistic, informed estimates of when we'll get their power back on. I'm also grateful to the teams from our contract partners and other network operators for supporting our effort.' Oasis fan ‘left bruised after Liam's maracas wrestled away from her'
Oasis had just finished another epic gig, concluding the set with Champagne Supernova as fireworks lit up the sky. Leaving the stage on Sunday, Liam Gallagher, the band's lead singer, threw his tambourine to one side of the Wembley crowd and a pair of tied maracas to the other. The latter landed straight in the hands of Chantal Arpino, a 42-year-old mortgage adviser from Buckinghamshire. But before she could pocket her memento, she claims two men ripped the maracas from her, pulling back her fingers, drawing blood and leaving her with cuts and bruises. Arpino, who paid more than £1,000 for two tickets for her and her partner, said: 'I caught them in the air. I've got my hands on both of them but they are strapped at the handle and my hands were twisted holding on to them.

ITV confirm Coronation Street favourite is set for a sensational return to the cobbles as new Rovers Return landlord - and she's not alone!
ITV have confirmed that Coronation Street favourite, Eva Price, will be returning to the cobbles this autumn – and she's taking over the Rovers Return. Actress Catherine Tyldesley, 41, is back filming top-secret scenes in Weatherfield – and she's not alone. Joining her are two major new cast members: Shameless and Bohemian Rhapsody star Aaron McCusker, 46, and comedy legend Pauline McLynn, 63, best known as Mrs Doyle in Father Ted. The pair will arrive as Eva's new partner Ben Driscoll and his meddling mother Maggie, with the trio unveiled as the new owners of the Rovers in scenes set to air in October. It marks the first time Eva will be pulling pints behind the iconic bar since 2018, and the new Price-Driscoll clan looks set to shake things up in a big way. In upcoming episodes, Eva will be reunited with her sisters Leanne and Toyah while catching up with old friends and neighbours. But what has she been up to since she left Weatherfield? And how will this new clan fit into the drama on the Street? Also joining the cast will be Ben's two sons, along with Eva's daughter Suzie, making this new blended family one to watch. News of the latest change on the cobblestones comes after it was announced that the show had been pulling in record viewers after making one recent change. The change took place in October 2024, when the long-running show became available to view on ITVX from 7am on the day of broadcast. This meant that soap fans could either choose to tune in early or watch their favourite soaps at a time that better suited them. The decision to make the change came after BBC soap EastEnders made a similar switch to iPlayer a few years ago. Following the change, both Corrie and Emmerdale, which also made the switch, have enjoyed a record 124 million streams in 2025's first quarter. This meant that there have been an impressive one billion streams on ITVX so far this year. To put the change into context, compared to this time last year, soap viewing has increased by 35 percent. ITV's Managing Director of Media and Entertainment, Kevin Lygo, said: 'We have totally transformed our streaming offer with ITVX over the past couple of years. 'All our teams internally, alongside the best producers in the business, have helped deliver these brilliant numbers by producing, promoting and delivering this fantastic content to audiences to stream.'
