Why ‘The Tiny Chef Show's' Cancellation Hit So Hard
Canceled red ink cancellation stamp. Before June 25, 2025, I'd never heard of Nickelodeon's Tiny Chef Show, but after watching this green stop-motion character react to the news that his show was cancelled and that he didn't know what would happen to his many friends and castmates, my heart shattered into a million pieces. If you had asked me a week ago who Tiny Chef was, I couldn't have told you. Now, all I can think about are the tears that fell from this fictional character's beady eyes as he sat on his bed and wept over the news of his end. This moment, which tugged at my heartstrings, resonated with others across social media, as the video of Tiny Chef receiving the phone call about his cancellation went viral on X, TikTok, and Instagram. This was more than just a weekly update for the stop-motion character, who has previously gone viral for his short covers of Beyonce's 'TEXAS HOLD 'EM' and Kendrick Lamar's 'Not Like Us.' It was a full-on mic drop. The message was clear. Instead of issuing a press release about the cancellation, the people behind Tiny Chef captured the genuine heartbreak and devastation that news of a cancellation brings to those who work on shows like this. More social networking site 'X' (formerly known as Twitter) is displayed centrally on a smartphone screen alongside that of Threads (L) and Instagram (R) on August 01, 2023 in Bath, England. On the top row the logo of online video sharing and social media platform YouTube is seen alongside that of Whatsapp and TikTok. Along the bottom row Facebook, Quora amd Messenger are displayed. Elon Musk recently revealed the new logo for Twitter, which constitutes the letter 'X' as part of a rebrand of the company. (Photo by) The virality of this moment, while touching, sparked a separate conversation. Why does an Emmy Award-winning show with multiple viral moments, along with other feel-good shows that have faced similar ends, still face cancellation? Shows getting canceled isn't exactly a new phenomenon. Anyone reading this can probably name at least one show they loved that was canceled long before its natural end. Still, The Tiny Chef Show is another example of creators who go viral, get picked up by bigger companies, and then face constraints and challenges they didn't have when they had full creative control. Not to mention the higher production costs, the constantly changing market for what's 'in,' and how virality doesn't always lead to success when its medium changes. This has happened to many shows over the years that started on the internet and then moved to long-form content under a larger company. The Annoying Orange, Lucas the Spider, and other shows that began online are prime examples of programs that struggle to keep their momentum once they switch to a different platform. Even in a pool of his own tears, The Tiny Chef Show has its own silver lining. A follow-up video was made where the Tiny Chef made additional phone calls, still resulting in him crying, as he asked other studios to pick up his show, for his sake and for his friends. In just under three days, following the multiple viral videos and a showcase of old clips, fans have managed to band together and raise nearly $200,000 to prevent the show from being canceled. So many good shows are cancelled day after day, each for different reasons, so, for once, it's heartwarming to see people come together in a singular mission, to keep the content we love alive, and all of this was the result of the creators of Tiny Chef refusing to let their show go without at least showing the world how it made them, and their character, feel. Sometimes, things don't work out for the shows we care about, but sometimes they do.

Shipwrecked! 'Doctor Odyssey' canceled after 1 season on ABC
Doctor Odyssey has hit rough waters. Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that ABC's cruise ship medical drama is ending after one season. Created by Ryan Murphy, Doctor Odyssey starred Joshua Jackson, Phillipa Soo, and Sean Teale as a groundbreaking (for network TV) potential throuple as the medical staff on a cruise ship captained by Don Johnson. The news of the show's cancellation comes in the wake of a lawsuit filed by three members of the props crew against parent company Disney and producer 20th Television alleging sexual harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and negligent hiring, retention, and supervising practices. Earlier this month, Caroline Mack, Alicia Haverland, and Ava Steinbrenner alleged in the suit that Tyler Patton, hired by the companies to serve as Doctor Odyssey's assistant prop master under his wife, prop master Tammie Patton, subjected them to an "unchecked campaign of sexual harassment for months." Disney, 20th Television, and Tammie and Tyler Patton did not respond to EW's requests for comment at the time. According to the suit, Tyler and several other male props employees allegedly created "an unlawful den of sexual harassment and retaliation," which the suit claims Tammie Patton not only ignored but subjected them to retaliation for complaining about. The plaintiffs alleged that Disney and 20th TV ignored their complaints, and ultimately laid off the entire props department rather than investigate and take appropriate action. Mack, Haverland, and Steinbrenner are requesting a jury Odyssey's May 15 season 1 ender delivered closure for every character, making it a surprisingly satisfying series finale. Max (Jackson) and Avery (Soo) finally declared their love for each other, and committed to being together long-distance while following their individual dreams: Avery going to medical school, Max staying on the cruise ship. And Tristan (Teale) took not being chosen by Avery surprisingly well. The lack of drama and clear conclusion for the love triangle was the most shocking part of the episode. Plus, everyone survived the tsunami wave and earthquake aftershocks, the captain was able to keep his job despite not following orders during the crisis, and they all celebrated by dancing to "Despacito" on the beach. Not a bad way to go out for a cancelation after one season. Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly

Fans furious as new drama series is canceled after CLIFFHANGER finale
One of the most popular new dramas on NBC has been canceled after just one season. Despite earning praise from fans and critics, Grosse Pointe Garden Society has been axed. According to Deadline, NBCUniversal executives considered continuing the series exclusively on Peacock, where it had started charting in the streamer's top 10. However, the move would've 'required financial resources from Peacock that had not been allocated' and audience projections weren't high enough to justify it. The cancellation has enraged fans as the season one finale featured a major cliffhanger that was presumably set to be resolved in an expected second season. 'Oh come on. This was actually good. You guys didn't give it a chance changing the night and whatnot. Boo @nbc @peacock,' commented one. '@NBC is the like Netflix. Cancel shows without giving them time to build an audience. Glad I cancelled @peacock,' wrote another. 'Not surprised but I was hoping they would give it a chance,' wrote a third. Set in the upscale Detroit suburb of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, the show centers around four members of a local garden club whose lives begin to unravel after they become entangled in a murder at their club. To cover their tracks, they bury the body in their garden and destroy key evidence, all while juggling their own personal secrets and dramas. The series also time hops, showing the group before the murder and then afterwards to show how the scandal has affected their lives and friendships. The first season concluded with a cryptic Halloween scene: Birdie, Brett, and Catherine confront a person in a duck costume, but their identity isn't revealed. Grosse Pointe Garden Society stars AnnaSophia Robb, Ben Rappaport, and Melissa Fumero. There's been a number of major TV cancellations in recent weeks. HGTV just axed Farmhouse Fixer, Bargain Block, Married to Real Estate, and Izzy Does It in a shocking cancellation spree. Nickelodeon's The Tiny Chef Show also just got the axe. The animated series follows the life of Tiny Chef (voice by Matt Hutchinson), who speaks his very own language, creating a selection of tasty dishes in his tree stump. Last month, The Wheel of Time was canceled after three seasons at Amazon Prime. No reason was given for canceling the series starring Rosamund Pike and Barney Harris, however, Deadline reported that it was likely financial reasons. The series is based on the novels of the same name by Robert Jordan.

Why the ‘Tiny Chef' cancellation broke the internet's heart
Justice for Tiny Chef. A now-viral clip of the stop-motion animated star of The Tiny Chef Show getting laid off directly by the execs at 'Mickelflodeon' has tugged at the heartstrings of the internet. In a YouTube short posted earlier this week, now with 365,000 views, the tiny green chef (Cheffy, as he's known to friends) is minding his business, dusting his room, when he gets a call delivering the terrible news: His show's been canceled. 'But we won an Emmy,' he lisps into the phone. 'What about Rob? And Jen? Kate, Patty, MK, Leah—all my friends.' Wiping away tears, he says: 'I understand. I love you too, bye.' He tries to go back to cleaning before breaking down on the bed. Gut-wrenching. 'That little attempt to straighten himself out and then get back to what he was doing only to immediately break down… that's REAL grief right there,' reads one of the YouTube comments. 'I have no idea who this is but after watching this he means the world to me and something needs to be done about this great injustice,' another commenter wrote. According to the creators of the stop-motion series, which began on Instagram before being picked up by Nickelodeon in 2022 for three successful seasons, the cancellation was 'very unexpected.' Tiny Chef's creators Rachel Larsen and Ozlem 'Ozi' Akturk told The Wrap, 'We always try to play Chef's life really authentically and this was a big moment—this was his dream show.' They added, 'I think to not show how that would affect him isn't right.' To rub salt in the wound: 'Bro look at how happy Tiny Chef was back when the show initially got picked up…..' one X user posted. In each episode, the tiny herbivore chef created equally tiny dishes, from apple pie to guacamole. Each episode featured a celebrity announcer, with cameos from RuPaul, Alan Cumming, Kristen Bell, and Rebel Wilson. Now Cheffy needs your help. 'Many of you have said that you would die for Tiny Chef, we don't need all that (!!!) but we do need crowdfunding to keep going,' reads a call for donations on the show's website. As soon as the internet found out about Cheffy's plight, they sprang into action. 'Oh. Nickelodeon BROKE this man….' one X user posted, now with over 111.8 million views. 'How did they make me care about this character despite never seeing a single episode,' asked another. (Indeed, it seems many of Tiny Chef's most fervent supporters only learned of his existence this week.) 'Normalize having characters reacting to their shows/films getting cancelled to make people hate CEOs even more,' one X user wrote. Another added, 'This is why animation is so important too. AI slop won't make you feel emotions like this.'
