The nation's iconic Apollo Theater in Harlem announced a record breaking $3.2 million raised at its 2025 Spring gala. The funds will support year-round programming that amplifies artistic excellence, youth education, community engagement and a major renovation of the over 100 year old theater that has launched the careers of thousands of African American artists from Ella Fitzgerald to James Brown to Gladys Knight, H.E.R. D'Angelo, and Lauryn Hill. Its Amateur Night is the genesis for popular shows like American Idol
It was a night filled with purpose and praise, honoring music industry titan Clive Davis with the Legacy Award and inducting him into the Apollo's Walk of Fame. Rising from the very same stage she first stepped on as a child, Harlem-born artist and multi-hyphenate Teyana Taylor received the inaugural Innovator Award. Clive Davis: Reviving Icons and Shaping Sound
Few figures in the music industry have shaped careers as profoundly—or resuscitated them as masterfully—as Clive Davis. The legendary executive, founder of Arista Records, famously revitalized the careers of two vocal powerhouses: Aretha Franklin and Dionne Warwick.
After Aretha Franklin's chart presence had faded by the late 1970s, Davis signed her to Arista in 1980. With an ear toward contemporary production, he paired her with rising producers like Luther Vandross, resulting in the chart-topping Jump to It and the Grammy-winning Freeway of Love .
Franklin's resurgence under Davis's leadership marked one of the most celebrated comebacks in music.
Equally powerful was Davis's role in returning Dionne Warwick to the top. After a career lull, he signed her to Arista in 1979. Warwick was unsure of her future in music—until Davis stepped in.
'You may be ready to give the business up,' Davis told her, 'but the business is not ready to give you up.'
That encouragement led to I'll Never Love This Way Again —a platinum-selling hit—and the landmark anthem ' That's What Friends Are For.'
Decades later, Warwick recounted:
'His words still ring in my ear… 'Uh‑uh, young lady. You may be ready to give this industry up, but the industry is not ready to give you up.'

Teyana Taylor: From Harlem Kid to Culture Shaper
For Teyana Taylor, the night was a homecoming. Having first performed at the Apollo at just 8 years old, she returned now as a bold and boundary-breaking artist, director, and fashion visionary. Receiving the Innovator Award, Taylor offered heartfelt thanks to the institution that shaped her beginnings:
'Thank you for the village you have placed in my life. I'm filled with so much gratitude.'

A Starry Celebration of Sound and Legacy
Hosted by comedian Kym Whitley, the gala unfolded with a vibrant lineup of performers, including Method Man, Busta Rhymes, Deborah Cox, Shoshana Bean, The Baylor Project, Avery Sunshine, and Camille A. Brown & Dancers—all brought to life under the direction of musical maestro Adam Blackstone.
Civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton presented a moving tribute to longtime Apollo supporter entrepreneur Richard Parsons, recognizing his visionary leadership and dedication.
And when the formal program ended, Harlem kept dancing—thanks to the return of DJ D-Nice, who transformed 126th Street into a star-studded party pulsing with joy, rhythm, and community love.
The Apollo's Next Act: Restoration and Renewal
Apollo President and CEO Michelle Ebanks unveiled a bold vision for the theater's future, including an expansive renovation of the historic venue:
'Our education program is reaching more young people than ever… this renovation is part of an evolution set in motion more than a decade ago.'
Updates will include new orchestra seating, modern acoustics and lighting, upgraded dressing rooms, and a full restoration of the iconic Apollo marquee—ensuring the venue remains as powerful visually as it is spiritually.
The 2025 Apollo Spring Gala was more than a fundraiser—it was a resounding testament to the resilience and ongoing influence of Black music, art, and community. Its success in raising over $3.2 million positions the theater for its next phase, ensuring the Apollo remains a beacon for future generations of artists.

Husband slammed for asking this question at a kids birthday party: ‘I'm filled with rage'

Talk about being oblivious. Like many mothers, a Connecticut woman wanted nothing more than for her little girl's Cinderella-themed birthday party to be memorable and special. In order to do this, Courtney Davis spent countless weeks planning the princess party of her 4-year-old's dreams. She placed orders for things like custom-embroidered napkins, and she carefully lined table covers with lace trim. Talk about being detail-oriented. Davis — who is a mom of two — didn't just cater to her little girl. She made sure to put out a delicious spread of food and drinks for the adults. This mom worked hard for weeks to make her little girl's birthday party special. Monkey Business – Although most young tots don't notice these things, Davis told she goes above and beyond because 'It's my anxiety.' The key thing to note is that her hubby seemed to be barely involved in the planning of their daughter's birthday party. It wasn't until the actual day of the party — when everything was in its place, ready for guests and the birthday girl to arrive — that he asked if his hardworking wife needed help with anything. He also had the nerve to ask Davis: 'Did you get a cake?' Davis went above and beyond for the party — catering to not only her little girl, but adults as well. Oksana Kuzmina – Clearly, this man doesn't know his wife very well, or his head was in the clouds, not noticing all the behind-the-scenes work Davis did leading up to the party. The real kicker is that Davis innocently caught her husband's naive questions on camera when she was bringing her phone around the party to capture the final product she worked so hard on. She posted this humorous — maybe a little exasperating — video to Instagram with the caption, 'Thanks so much for asking,' and the floodgates opened with wives running to the comment section to share how their husbands are also oblivious at times or joke that they want to stay single forever. 'Reminds me of Christmas morning. Did you get presents for the kids lol.' 'Put all the husbands in a bag, shake it up, reach inside….. you'll get yours every time, cause they all the same.' 'I was scrolling Instagram to relax, but now I'm filled with rage thank you very much lol.' 'I was going to start dating again but never mind.' 'Single women are the happiest.' This isn't the first time moms are calling out men. A fed-up mom went viral for sharing why many women have low sex drives. 'Not an f—ing chance,' she said, after going through a calculation that consisted of eight hours of sleep, three full meals, helpful husband duties — and one too many toddler touches. 'We gotta find a way to add in how long the husband takes to poop,' joked one person in the comment section. 'Women in stem,' someone else wrote.

Judge Denies Bail for Sean 'Diddy' Combs Following Guilty Verdict in Federal Trial

Source: Variety / Getty Sean 'Diddy' Combs will remain behind bars after a federal judge denied him bail Tuesday, just hours after a jury found the music mogul guilty on two federal charges related to transporting women across state lines for illegal sexual activity. Judge Arun Subramanian ruled against Combs' release as concerns mounted from victims' advocates about the safety of witnesses and alleged survivors connected to the case. The decision came shortly after a partial guilty verdict was delivered in the high-profile trial that has gripped the entertainment industry for months. A New York federal jury convicted Combs on Count 3 and Count 5, both violations of the Mann Act, for transporting two women, including singer Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura and another former girlfriend referred to as 'Jane,' across state lines for illicit purposes. However, the jury acquitted Combs on three other charges, including the most serious: Count 1, racketeering conspiracy. He was also found not guilty of sex trafficking allegations tied to both women. The mixed verdict followed over 14 hours of deliberation and concluded a seven-week trial marked by explosive testimony. More than 30 witnesses, including former staff, industry insiders, and alleged victims, detailed a disturbing pattern of abuse, coercion, and systemic coverups that prosecutors claimed were orchestrated from within Combs' inner circle. Despite his acquittal on racketeering and sex trafficking counts, the Mann Act convictions carry serious legal consequences and could result in a significant prison sentence. Victims' rights attorney Gloria Allred weighed in on the ruling during an interview with CNN, applauding the judge's decision to deny bail and highlighting broader concerns about witness safety. 'I am very concerned about Mr. Combs being released on bail,' Allred said. 'Some of [the potential witnesses] were on the witness list turned over to the defense but have not been made public. They overcame a lot of fear just to speak to law enforcement and tell the truth. And they were very much afraid.' Allred stressed that the fear and trauma these individuals have faced should not be underestimated, especially now that Combs' legal fate is in the hands of the court. Combs, 55, remains in federal custody as sentencing preparations begin. Sentencing has been set for Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. SEE ALSO Judge Denies Bail for Sean 'Diddy' Combs Following Guilty Verdict in Federal Trial was originally published on

Diddy Acquitted On RICO & Sex Trafficking Charges, Found Guilty Of Transportation To Engage In Prostitution, Social Media Reacts

Source: ANGELA WEISS / Getty Diddy has been found not guilty of racketeering conspiracy, not guilty of sex trafficking, and guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He is facing a maximum of 10 years in prison, but he has yet to be sentenced. The verdict wraps up Diddy's legal issues, which went public in 2023 when ex-girlfriend Cassie filed a bombshell lawsuit against him, accusing him of a ' cycle of abuse, violence, and sex trafficking ' during their relationship, which began in 2007 and ended in 2018. Parts of her claims were later proven when a video showed him dragging her down the hallway of a Los Angeles hotel before kicking her several times. He'd later say in a video apology he was 'truly sorry' and his actions were 'inexcusable.' A settlement was reached the next day, but it was enough for other alleged victims to come forward, accusing him of abusing his power within the music industry, and taking advantage of them. Many of the accusers —men and women, some underage— painted similar stories of being drugged via laced alcoholic beverages, over the course of about 20 years. At one point, t he Washington Post reported that the Hip-Hop mogul could face up to 120 allegations via lawsuits, represented by Houston lawyer Tony Buzbee. One even named Jay Z alongside Diddy, but the claim was later dropped because the alleged victim's story had too many inconsistencies. Combs' homes in Los Angeles, New York, and Miami were searched in March 2024, and along with laptops and hard drives being seized, thousands of bottles of baby oil were found. It wouldn't be until September 2024 that he'd be arrested at his New York City hotel on suspicion of sex trafficking and racketeering. He'd remained incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn while being denied bail three times. Eventually, he began his trial in May, with New York federal judge Arun Subramanian presiding. Once the trial began, stories of Diddy's sexual life came out. Victims and sex workers testifying to his freak-off sex parties and how he'd pay prostitutes to have sex with Cassie while he'd watch and film it and have miniswimming pools filled with warm baby oil strewn around the room. Kid Cudi would later testify about Diddy being so jealous of his short-lived relationship with Cassie that he tossed a Molotov cocktail inside his Porsche and broke into his home. Cassie also testified as the prosecutions first witness and spoke on the sex parties and being raped by him and threatening to release their sex tapes. Now that the trial has wrapped, see how social media is reacting to the verdict below.
