I just played Marvel Rivals on an RTX 5070 Ti gaming laptop — and it reached a shockingly high 320 fps
I recently reviewed the HP Omen Max 16 and Alienware Area-51 Gaming Laptop and was floored by their gaming performance.
These machines have Nvidia RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 mobile GPUs (respectively), so I expected astonishing gaming performance. The question I had was, how well would the best gaming laptops with RTX 5070 Ti or lower fare?
I recently met with Nvidia and got to check out the new Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 and HP Omen Transcend 14, which pack RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 GPUs (respectively). These are refreshed models of the ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024) and Omen Transcend 14, which are fantastic gaming laptops in their own right. Asus and HP's latest machines offer great performance thanks to their updated components, particularly their RTX 50-series GPUs.
Though my time with these laptops was brief, I got a good sense of what their GPUs can dish out. Seeing the incredible frame rates each generated served as further proof that DLSS 4 is the secret weapon for gaming laptops.
Editor's note: I got to try these laptops under Nvidia's conditions. We'll have full reviews of these laptops, complete with our usual slew of performance benchmarks, soon.
The new Asus Zephyrus G14 (2025) shares the same design as its predecessor but packs the latest components. This includes an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX CPU, and Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti laptop GPU, 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. This is an excellent gaming laptop with a design that fits with any environment, be it a gaming den or an office.
I got to check out Marvel Rivals on the ROG Zephyrus G14 and FCB: Firebreak on the Omen Transcend 14. Like I said, I didn't go super in-depth with either, but I had enough time to see what DLSS 4 could do for the games' performance. Needless to say, I was astonished.
On the RTX 5070 Ti-powered ROG Zephyrus G14, Marvel Rivals ran at around 300 to 320 frames per second with DLSS 4 x4 enabled. Interestingly enough, the frame rate dropped to about 120 fps when I unplugged the machine. Frame rate always suffers when you unplug a gaming laptop, but with DLSS 4 turned on, you won't always have to suffer playing at something like 30 fps.
FCB: Firebreak on the Omen Transcend 14 with its RTX 5070 GPU also saw great performance with a smooth 70 fps. Sure, that's nowhere near the lofty 320 fps I saw on Asus' machine, but keep in mind this is a more graphically demanding game running on a system with a less powerful GPU. I don't know about you, but I'm not going to complain that a game is only running at 70 fps.
The Omen Transcend 14 is the first RTX 5070 gaming laptop I've checked out, and I have to say it left a good first impression. Granted, that's not difficult since its predecessor is one of my favorite gaming laptops that I would buy with my own money. I'm eager to see how well this machine can handle other graphically demanding games, like Cyberpunk 2077.
My colleague Darragh Murphy recently tested Doom: The Dark Ages on the MSI Steam A16 AI+, packing an RTX 5070 Ti GPU and 32GB of RAM. At 1600p resolution and DLSS enabled, he got the game to run at 87 fps, which is already pretty darn good. With DLSS 4 enabled, the fps jumped to an incredible 207.
Doom: The Dark Ages is a very well-optimized game, so I'm not surprised to see such incredible performance. But just as I experienced when I tested the game on more powerful gaming laptops, you'll see a huge performance boost when you turn on DLSS 4.
The new HP Omen Transcend 14 is a gaming laptop that doesn't look the part. It features a 14-inch 120Hz OLED panel, an Intel Core Ultra 9-285H CPU, 32GB of RAM, 1TB of SSD storage, and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 GPU.
I've said this before, but if you own a gaming laptop with an RTX 50 series card, there's little reason not to enable DLSS 4. While this frame-generating tech does introduce some latency, you probably won't notice it unless you're a professional gamer.
For everyone else who mostly plays single-player titles, DLSS 4 is a fantastic feature that can help lower-end gaming laptops punch well above their weight class. My latest experience with RTX 50-series laptops only reinforces my already positive view of DLSS 4.

Kraken Launches Crypto's Attempt at a Venmo-Killer
Kraken's rising from the decentralized deep to capsize a big ship: traditional finance. The crypto platform launched a peer-to-peer payments app yesterday that lets users instantly send 300+ crypto tokens, stablecoins and fiat currencies to friends and family in more than 100 countries. Anyone who has had to split a check with new hostel friends knows that rivals Venmo and Zelle only support payments between US users. Kraken's app, called Krak, also doesn't charge fees for cross-border payments or transfers from one currency to another, setting it apart from PayPal. Kraken's app is meant to serve as an entry point to digital assets for the crypto-cautious, with rewards of up to 10% on Krak account balances to entice new users. Krak is also part of Kraken's push into traditional finance to diversify revenue ahead of a planned IPO. READ ALSO: Dwindling IPOs Reward Investors With Return Bonanza and After Reclaiming 'World's Most Valuable Company' Crown, Nvidia Gilds the Tiara Those are the words of Kraken exec Mark Greenberg as Kraken and other crypto companies try to put their blockchain-backed spins on traditional finance: Kraken debuted tokens that represent US equities for non-US users, letting them trade representations of stocks like Nvidia and Tesla over the blockchain. It also bought futures-trading platform NinjaTrader this spring for $1.5 billion. Crypto exchange Coinbase teamed up with Shopify to launch a payments platform (creatively named Coinbase Payments) that lets merchants accept payments using the stablecoin USDC. The issuer of USDC, Circle, also introduced a cross-border payments network this spring. At the same time, TradFi isn't going down without a fight: JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup and Wells Fargo are reportedly exploring the creation of a joint stablecoin, and brokerages like Morgan Stanley and Charles Schwab are working on adding crypto trading. Hot Coin Summer: The line between traditional and digital finance has grown blurry in the Trump era as regulatory actions against crypto companies have eased. In March, the SEC dropped a lawsuit accusing Kraken of operating an unregistered securities exchange, following the agency's abandonment of a similar suit against rival Coinbase. Both sides of the finance world have read the new room and aren't missing the opportunity to try to eat each other's lunch. This post first appeared on The Daily Upside. The tech rally is about a lot more than Magnificent 7 right now
The broadening of the AI trade is here. One of the most common calls among Wall Street strategists entering the year was for the AI trade to expand further from seven key popular players into a slew of other areas of the market. Since the April 8 market bottom, it's been happening. AI chip and data center trades not named Nvidia (NVDA) have been among the S&P 500's (^GSPC) best performers, with Broadcom (AVGO), AMD (AMD), and Dell (DELL) up roughly 70% or more in that timeframe. The AI energy trade has taken off too, with Vistra Corp (VST) and NRG Energy (NRG) up more than 80%. The AI cloud trade has emerged as well, with Oracle (ORCL) up more than 70% and trading at an all-time high. By subscribing, you are agreeing to Yahoo's Terms and Privacy Policy To be fair, some of the "Magnificent Seven" have also risen off the bottom. Nvidia has led the pack, rising over 60% to recently notch a new all-time high. But as our Chart of the Week shows, none of the Magnificent Seven have outperformed the other AI stocks that are among the top 20 best-performing stocks in the S&P 500 since the market bottom. After two years of there only being a few large-cap tech names in town, investors looking to outperform the market during the massive run higher of the past two months have had more success looking beyond the most popular stocks of the current bull market. This reveals a common truth about bull markets. They're about themes, not individual stocks. In the 1920s, the bull market was defined by surging demand for radio communications and automobiles. The dot-com bubble that ran in the late 1990s was, of course, focused on the initial hype of the internet. But after rising more than 270% from 1995 to the end of 1996, Cisco (CSCO), the poster child of the era, wasn't among the market's top 10 performers come 1997 to 1999. The theme stayed, but the best-performing stocks in the market oscillated. If you listen closely, that's what many on Wall Street have been saying for a while now. It's an AI and tech bull market, not the "Magnificent Seven" bull market. Whatever it's called, it's certainly ongoing and has "further to run, as Julian Emanuel, who leads the equity, derivatives, and quantitative strategy team at Evercore ISI, wrote this week in a note to clients. "Despite the near-term uncertainty," he wrote, "the four elements that end bull markets [a recession, Fed hikes, spiking bond yields, and extreme stock valuations] are all absent."
