I just played Marvel Rivals on an RTX 5070 Ti gaming laptop — and it reached a shockingly high 320 fps

I recently reviewed the HP Omen Max 16 and Alienware Area-51 Gaming Laptop and was floored by their gaming performance. These machines have Nvidia RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 mobile GPUs (respectively), so I expected astonishing gaming performance. The question I had was, how well would the best gaming laptops with RTX 5070 Ti or lower fare? I recently met with Nvidia and got to check out the new Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 and HP Omen Transcend 14, which pack RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 GPUs (respectively). These are refreshed models of the ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024) and Omen Transcend 14, which are fantastic gaming laptops in their own right. Asus and HP's latest machines offer great performance thanks to their updated components, particularly their RTX 50-series GPUs. Though my time with these laptops was brief, I got a good sense of what their GPUs can dish out. Seeing the incredible frame rates each generated served as further proof that DLSS 4 is the secret weapon for gaming laptops. Editor's note: I got to try these laptops under Nvidia's conditions. We'll have full reviews of these laptops, complete with our usual slew of performance benchmarks, soon. The new Asus Zephyrus G14 (2025) shares the same design as its predecessor but packs the latest components. This includes an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX CPU, and Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti laptop GPU, 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. This is an excellent gaming laptop with a design that fits with any environment, be it a gaming den or an office. I got to check out Marvel Rivals on the ROG Zephyrus G14 and FCB: Firebreak on the Omen Transcend 14. Like I said, I didn't go super in-depth with either, but I had enough time to see what DLSS 4 could do for the games' performance. Needless to say, I was astonished. On the RTX 5070 Ti-powered ROG Zephyrus G14, Marvel Rivals ran at around 300 to 320 frames per second with DLSS 4 x4 enabled. Interestingly enough, the frame rate dropped to about 120 fps when I unplugged the machine. Frame rate always suffers when you unplug a gaming laptop, but with DLSS 4 turned on, you won't always have to suffer playing at something like 30 fps. FCB: Firebreak on the Omen Transcend 14 with its RTX 5070 GPU also saw great performance with a smooth 70 fps. Sure, that's nowhere near the lofty 320 fps I saw on Asus' machine, but keep in mind this is a more graphically demanding game running on a system with a less powerful GPU. I don't know about you, but I'm not going to complain that a game is only running at 70 fps. The Omen Transcend 14 is the first RTX 5070 gaming laptop I've checked out, and I have to say it left a good first impression. Granted, that's not difficult since its predecessor is one of my favorite gaming laptops that I would buy with my own money. I'm eager to see how well this machine can handle other graphically demanding games, like Cyberpunk 2077. My colleague Darragh Murphy recently tested Doom: The Dark Ages on the MSI Steam A16 AI+, packing an RTX 5070 Ti GPU and 32GB of RAM. At 1600p resolution and DLSS enabled, he got the game to run at 87 fps, which is already pretty darn good. With DLSS 4 enabled, the fps jumped to an incredible 207. Doom: The Dark Ages is a very well-optimized game, so I'm not surprised to see such incredible performance. But just as I experienced when I tested the game on more powerful gaming laptops, you'll see a huge performance boost when you turn on DLSS 4. The new HP Omen Transcend 14 is a gaming laptop that doesn't look the part. It features a 14-inch 120Hz OLED panel, an Intel Core Ultra 9-285H CPU, 32GB of RAM, 1TB of SSD storage, and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 GPU. I've said this before, but if you own a gaming laptop with an RTX 50 series card, there's little reason not to enable DLSS 4. While this frame-generating tech does introduce some latency, you probably won't notice it unless you're a professional gamer. For everyone else who mostly plays single-player titles, DLSS 4 is a fantastic feature that can help lower-end gaming laptops punch well above their weight class. My latest experience with RTX 50-series laptops only reinforces my already positive view of DLSS 4.

ASUS has revealed several new laptops at Computex, including the impressive-looking ROG Zephyrus G14 . This high-spec computer looks perfect for on-the-go gaming and just about anything else. First of all, this thing is pretty small. The 14-inch screen allows it to fit in just about any to-go bag. The 16:10 panel boasts a 3K display, a refresh rate of 120Hz, 500 nits of peak brightness and Dolby Vision integration. The bezels are slim, with an impressive 87 percent screen-to-body ratio. It's also stylish, which is expected from the Zephyrus brand. The G14 features a CNC aluminum unibody that adds to the overall durability. It's available in two colorways. There's Eclipse Gray and Platinum White. As for specs, the G14 can be outfitted with up to an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor with 12 cores and 24 threads and an AMD XDNA NPU with up to 50 TOPS. Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (2025) review: A gaming laptop that adapts to you

Asus recently announced its 2025 lineup of ROG gaming laptops, including models like the Strix and Scar, which offer desktop-like performance in a portable form factor. The company also introduced the new ROG Zephyrus G14 (GA403WR-QS123WS) — a high-performance laptop that goes beyond gaming. As the name suggests, this is a 14-inch gaming laptop designed to cater to professionals, creators, gamers, or anyone who fits all three categories. I've been testing the ROG Zephyrus G14 as my primary computer for over two weeks. Here is my review of one of the first gaming laptops in India, powered by NVIDIA's latest Blackwell GPU architecture. Price: Rs 279,990 CPU: AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 (12-core, 24-thread, up to 5.1GHz, with integrated XDNA 2 NPU delivering up to 50 TOPS for AI tasks) GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Laptop 12GB GPU (up to 110W TGP, with DLSS 4 and Advanced Optimus) Display: 14-inch 3K (2880×1800) ROG Nebula OLED, 120Hz, 0.2ms, 100% DCI-P3, HDR True Black 500 Memory: 32GB LPDDR5X-8000MHz RAM Storage: 2TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD Right out of the box, the ROG Zephyrus G14 impressed me with its look and feel. Asus has managed to design a laptop that looks both like a gaming powerhouse and a professional's notebook — the kind a white-collar executive might carry daily. The branding is minimal yet unmistakably ROG. The laptop includes almost every port you would expect from a machine in this price range, except for an RJ45 Ethernet jack. It features multiple USB-C ports, USB-A ports, an HDMI port, and a microSD card slot. All ports are clearly labelled with their data transfer rates — a handy detail that I wish more laptops would adopt. The keyboard and trackpad are excellent, and I especially liked the inclusion of dedicated keys to mute the microphone and control the volume. Overall, the ROG Zephyrus G14 is a well-designed machine that gets most things right. This is one of the few gaming laptops in 2025 to offer a 14-inch OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and 3K (2880 x 1800) resolution. That makes it one of the best options not only for AAA gaming but also for content creation and media consumption, thanks to its 100% DCI-P3 color coverage. I received the laptop just in time to watch The Last of Us Season 2 on JioCinema and play The Last of Us Part II Remastered, which recently launched on PC. No QLED or Mini LED panel can match the contrast of an OLED, making this a fantastic screen for Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, and more. The audio quality is also among the best I've experienced — not just in gaming laptops, but on any Windows PC. The speakers are loud and clear enough to fill a room, often eliminating the need for external audio gear. The ROG Zephyrus G14 is one of the most powerful 14-inch laptops on the market. It is powered by the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor with an integrated Radeon 890M GPU, which alone can handle 1080p gaming. It also features an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti with 12GB of GDDR7 VRAM. Additional specs include 2TB PCIe Gen4 SSD storage and 32GB DDR5 RAM clocked at 8000MHz. Its performance profile adapts to your usage. In Ultimate mode, it delivers top-tier gaming performance. In Standard (MSHybrid) mode, it switches between GPUs for a balance of performance and battery life. Eco mode disables the discrete GPU to extend battery life — ideal for everyday non-gaming tasks. The Last of Us Part II Remastered: Avg. 130 FPS Forza Horizon 5 (DLSS enabled): Avg. 258 FPS Far Cry 6: Avg. 120 FPS Cinebench R23: 1968 (single-core), 21484 (multi-core) Geekbench 6: 2872 (single-core), 15590 (multi-core) Geekbench 6 GPU tests: Radeon 890M – 37287; RTX 5070 Ti – 143642 This is also a Copilot+ PC with a dedicated NPU, enabling new AI-powered Microsoft features like Recall, which uses snapshots to help you find content via natural language search. It also includes the updated Paint app with Copilot, allowing AI-based image generation, background removal, and editing. The 73Whr battery supports fast charging (50% in 30 minutes), and USB-PD charging is also supported, though at slower speeds. While ASUS claims all-day battery life, I consistently got around 5–6 hours of non-gaming usage. Gaming significantly reduces battery life, as expected. That battery life is typical for laptops in this class. Eco mode can stretch it a bit further, but a midday recharge is usually necessary. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is an excellent choice for both gamers and non-gamers seeking a powerful, portable machine capable of handling demanding tasks like video editing and 3D rendering. With this laptop, Asus has delivered a premium all-rounder that suits a wide range of users.
