Man 'sucked into plane engine' and killed at Milan Bergamo Airport pictured

The man who was sucked into a plane engine in a horrifying incident that stunned passengers has been pictured and named for the first time.
A man who was "sucked into a plane engine" at Milan Bergamo Airport has been pictured for the first time as a police probe continues.
Andrea Russo, from the Calcinate county, in Bergamo, Lombardy, was sucked into a Volotea plane engine, according to Italian media. Operations at Orio al Serio Airport, also known as Milan Bergamo, came to an abrupt halt at about 10:20am local time following a "fatal accident" on the runway, reports the Mirror.

The 35-year-old builder was not a passenger on board the plane and was not reported to have had any association with the airline, Volotea said. He is understood to have broken into the airport by driving the wrong way down a road before abandoning his car and then running into the terminal.

"We are investigating on any possible relationships with the airport or the world of aeroplanes," Public Prosecutor Maurizio Romanelli said. "In the car with which he arrived at the airport, full of all kinds of material, we have not found anything that could provide any kind of explanation."
When inside the ground floor of the arrivals area, Russo is said to have opened a security door that led directly to the aircraft parking area. Witnesses said he was chased by officers and ran across the runway.
According to outlet La voce del Patriota, officers were unable to stop him. He then raced toward an Airbus A319 Volotea aircraft that was set to depart for Asturias, in Spain.
Sources close to the airline told local media the man was sucked into the aircraft just as it was preparing for take off. Investigators are now working on the possibility that his actions were deliberate and premeditated.
A source told Italian media: "The most accredited hypothesis, although still under consideration, is that of a voluntary act, a premeditated suicide." Flight V73511 reportedly completed a "pushback" move as it prepared to leave the airport.

In a statement on X, airline Volotea said: "We're investigating reports of an incident involving our flight V73511 BGY-OVD, which occurred on the ground after boarding was completed and ready for departure.
"We're aware that one individual has sustained serious injuries involving the aircraft engine. More information soon."

Several flights were diverted as officers carried out an investigation into what happened. B y 11:50am, nine flights had been diverted, one to Bologna, two to Verona and six that were rerouted to Milan Malpensa.
A Milan Bergamo spokesperson said in a post shared to X/Twitter: "SACBO announces that flight operations at Milan Bergamo Airport were suspended at 10.20 am due to a problem that occurred on the taxiway.
'The causes of the problem are currently being investigated by the authorities."

Mum of missing Brit receives chilling mystery messages year after son vanished

Michael Frison, 26, vanished while camping in Sardinia, Italy - and his mum believes he was with Jersey-born Niomi Orlandini, who he met online in July 2024. The heartbroken mum of a missing Brit who vanished while on holiday with his apparent girlfriend was sent chilling messages about her son's disappearance a year later. ‌ Michael Frison, 26, disappeared while camping in Sardinia, Italy - and his mum believes he was with Jersey-born Niomi Orlandini, who he met online in July 2024 having arrived just days earlier to volunteer on a farm. ‌ Mum Cristina Pittalis, 49, started a campaign to help find her missing boy - however, as reported by the Mirror, she revealed she received messages from a mystery account. One read: "I tried to believe it was an accident." ‌ Cristina, originally from Sardinia but living in Chard, Somerset, said she believed the Facebook account sending her these "anonymous and disturbing" messages was by "someone with insider knowledge". The devastated mum said the words from the Facebook account "reference guilt, fear, and the inability to remain silent", according to The Sun. The mysterious messages said: "You cannot live a lie without it finding you eventually. "I've seen it in nightmares. This isn't about blame, it's about the silence that eats away. I tried to forget. I tried to believe it was an accident. But the fear… it doesn't go." Michael vanished on July 13, 2024 - just days after arriving on the Italian island. Despite extensive searches of nearby woodlands, caves and mountains, no trace of him has ever been found. ‌ Cristina has since moved back to Sardinia, with her 11-year-old son, to desperately try and find Michael, as she urged Interpol to investigate his missing person case. The mum said he flew from Bristol Airport to Olbia on July 2, 2024, and drove to his grandparents home to celebrate his 25th birthday and his grandma's 70th. According to Cristina, Niomi asked to join Michael on his travels and he cancelled his return flight to the UK in order to stay with the woman for a week, according to The Sun. His mum said the pair went to volunteer on a local farm, owned by a German couple. Michael and Niomi reportedly slept in a tent about "100 metres away" from the German couple, who stayed in a campervan. Cristina revealed the last message her son sent before he vanished, saying: "He texted me saying he was going to sleep and that he'd call me tomorrow. He ended it with a heart emoji." Michael had reportedly gone out for a walk and returned in a confused state, showing signs of heatstroke. ‌ He then left again - this time barefoot - and never came back. His clothes and trainers were later discovered nearby the site. Despite this, Cristina believes the heatstroke theory doesn't add up saying it was "extremely unlikely" he would suffer in the heat, as he'd previously lived on the island, and said it was "completely out of character" for him to abandon his belongings and wander off. She also called on Niomi to step forward with any information. She said Michael's younger half-brother Emanuele, whose father died in 2017, was "devastated" by his brother's disappearance. She said: "The three of us were extremely close, the two of them, they used to do everything together. It's horrible, he lost his father and now he lost his brother." A friend of Cristina's previously launched a GoFundMe to support the family's search efforts, raising over £10,000 to help cover travel, legal costs, and awareness campaigns.

The mum-of-two from Chard, Somerset, has now received 'anonymous and disturbing Facebook messages' from an account that she believes is "someone with insider knowledge.' The cryptic messages 'reference guilt, fear, and the inability to remain silent.' They read: 'You cannot live a lie without it finding you eventually. 'I've seen it in nightmares. 'This isn't about blame, it's about the silence that eats away. 'I tried to forget. I tried to believe it was an accident. But the fear… it doesn't go.' Cristina previously told The Sun that she can 'relate' to Jay Slater's mum Debbie Duncan - and blames local Italian police for failing to investigate properly. She said: 'I can't even imagine how Jay Slater's mum would have felt when her son went missing and she couldn't communicate in Spanish. 'I can communicate with the police and they have been useless.' Tragic last vid shows tourist, 26, smiling next to pal at summit before deadly plunge in active volcano crater Cristine explained that her son Michael had flown from Bristol Airport to Olbia on July 2 last year, before driving to his grandparents home in Sassari to celebrate his 25th birthday and his grandma's 70th. Niomi, 27, asked to join him on the trip and he cancelled his return flight to the UK in order to stay with her for an additional week. According to his mum, the pair left Michael's grandparents home on July 12, and went to volunteer on a farm in the Gallura hinterland, where they would work in exchange for food and accommodation. Mum-of-two Cristine says the trip from her parents' place to the site they stayed at was a '70 mile journey', and the area was surrounded by 'rugged terrain and deep vegetation'. The pair arrived on an area of land, owned by a German couple, on the same day they left, with Michael and Niomi staying in a tent about '100 metres away' from the couple, who were in a campervan. Cristine said that was the last day she heard from him: 'He texted me saying he was going to sleep and that he'd call me tomorrow. He ended it with a heart emoji.' A snap taken from the scene shows clothing and a water bottle in the area where they camped. Heartbroken mum Cristina has grown increasingly frustrated over the Italian authorities' reluctance to share key information about Michael's disappearance with British cops. 11 The search for Michael was called off after just two weeks Credit: Unpixs 11 Michael had been in Sardinia celebrating his birthday with his Italian grandparents Credit: Jonathan Kanengoni 11 Mum Cristina has launched a campaign to find her son Credit: Jonathan Kanengoni The Foreign Office has stated it cannot intervene in the investigation unless Italy formally requests their assistance. Italian police have yet to locate or question Niomi, believed to be the last person to see Michael alive. She has not co-operated with the authorities or his family, and is thought to have moved to Thailand where her mother is from. Cristina explained that police in Britain advised her to tell the Italian authorities to seize Niomi's passport, which they did not do, and that they got offended when she tried to tell them how to do their jobs. The crucial passport error may have allowed Niomi to vanish with a raft of questions left unanswered. She added that she has also not been given a family liaison officer, and claims Italian police have kept her in the dark. The worried mother additionally raised her concerns about Niomi, saying she has not spoken to her sisters since she left, though they keep telling her that she is a 'lovely girl'. Efforts to track down Niomi's family in Jersey have failed. Cristina said: 'I'm not looking for a culprit, I'm looking for my son - I'm not accusing her of anything. 'But the fact she is not responding is quite mysterious and very strange.' The mum added: "Human beings do not disappear from the face of earth without leaving traces unless something extremely bad happened to them.' The mother has been left questioning why Niomi would not respond to her appeals for help or check in for an update on the search. 11 A local investigation into his whereabouts is ongoing Credit: Facebook/@Cristina Pittalis 11 Cristina previously told The Sun that she can 'relate' to Jay Slater's mum Credit: Facebook/@Cristina Pittalis 11 Michael went missing on 13 July last year in Sardinia Credit: Jonathan Kanengoni Cristina, who lost her husband seven years ago and is now juggling the search for Michael with looking after her youngest son, 11, said she's going through an 'unimaginable mix of emotions'. She said: 'It's destroyed our lives. 'Not knowing where Michael is and what happened is unbearable. 'Feeling the worst and holding onto hope for the best - it's an overwhelming sense of helplessness.' She says she feels 'drained' by the emotional and physical toll of his disappearance, and vowed: 'I am determined to find him, even in my grief I will not stop fighting for him. In her desperate efforts, Cristina has 'given up everything', abandoning her promising career in social work in order to dedicate her time to finding Michael and downsizing her home. She said: 'I am leaving the house because I can't afford to live here and balance going between here and Italy.' Cristina added that her second son is home educated and has developed separation anxiety. She praised Michael as 'such a kind and truly special soul'. She said: 'He feels so deeply not just for himself but for others - he notices when someone is struggling. 'He offers a kind word and a helping hand. "It's a never-ending nightmare. "There's no real accountability... I am here and I am broken." A GoFundMe campaign launched by Michael's pals in the UK has now reached £10,000 in the effort to help find the missing Brit.
