Mikey Day stunned he gave acting advice to Meryl Streep on SNL
The veteran SNL writer and performer recently opened up on the Hey Dude… The 90s Called podcast about the surreal experience of working with the Oscar-winning legend during SNL's 50th anniversary special. Streep made her first-ever appearance on the show in a sketch co-written by Day, and her meticulous prep work stood out.
'She was memorising everything, totally immersed in character,' Day shared. 'I'm standing there thinking, 'What is happening?' I'm literally telling Meryl Streep, the greatest actor of all time, to just read from the cue cards.'
At SNL, writers are also the producers of their sketches, meaning Day had to guide Streep through the production process. It led to the unlikely scenario where he was offering her performance notes, not because she wasn't nailing it, but because her instincts were too perfect for the show's casual, fast-paced style.
'She was just doing more than necessary, out of habit,' he laughed. 'I told her, 'You don't need to memorise. The cards are right there!''
Day, who also hosts Netflix's Is It Cake? and has built a steady career in comedy and voice work, still can't quite believe the interaction. Despite years working alongside A-listers, he called the moment 'one of those rare times where it hits you that this is not normal.'

The ugly dress, the paparazzi photo, and the mental health battle Olivia Munn hid for years
Olivia Munn is opening up about a deeply personal struggle that began during her early brush with fame. In a candid conversation on the Armchair Expert podcast, the actress revealed that her battle with trichotillomania, a compulsive hair-pulling disorder, started around 2009, during her brief relationship with Chris Pine. The triggering moment, Munn says, was a paparazzi photo showing her leaving Pine's house while wearing a quirky vintage prom dress. 'I asked The Daily Show for the ugliest dress they had,' she recalled with a laugh. 'They found this old blue dress with pom-poms, and I wore it hoping to land on the worst-dressed list. And I did!' But the backlash that followed took a toll. Online commenters accused her of staging the photos, criticising everything from her outfit to the fact that she was carrying a clutch during the day. 'I read the comments,' Munn said. 'That began my trichotillomania.' She described the compulsive urge in detail, 'I'll feel like, 'This eyelash feels like it's gonna come out,' even though it's not. And then when you pull it, there's a quick second of pain… and then satisfaction, followed by regret.' Though Munn didn't share how she currently manages the disorder, she emphasised that there's no tension between her and Pine. The two recently reunited at the SNL 50th anniversary celebration and enjoyed a friendly chat. Now focused on motherhood with husband John Mulaney, Munn continues to balance her personal and professional life while raising awareness about mental health.

Keith Urban abruptly ends interview after risqué Nicole Kidman question
Keith Urban's radio interview promoting his upcoming High and Alive World Tour ended abruptly when a personal question about his wife, Nicole Kidman, took things off-track. The 57-year-old singer called in to Mix 102.3's Hayley & Max in the Morning on July 1 to talk about his tour and share memories of Adelaide. But the chat took a sharp turn when hosts Hayley Pearson and Max Burford introduced their 'Wall of Truth' segment - a game involving awkward, personal questions. 'We often get put into this situation,' Hayley said, 'but I get really uncomfortable asking something a guest might not want to answer.' Then Max dove into the real question: 'What does Keith Urban think when he sees his beautiful wife with beautiful younger men like Zac Efron having love scenes on TV?' referring to Kidman's 2024 Netflix film A Family Affair. Seconds later, their Zoom connection dropped. 'He's just disconnected,' someone behind the scenes confirmed. Hayley reacted in disbelief: 'That's 100 percent what just happened. We've upset him! He's gone.' The co-hosts were left scrambling, unsure whether Urban had ended the call himself or if his team had stepped in. 'He doesn't like talking about his wife,' Hayley said. Max, still surprised, added, 'I thought we were vibing!' Before things went sideways, Urban had shared excitement about returning to the stage and admitted he still gets nervous before shows, likening the feeling to 'a racehorse kicking the stalls.' Urban's High and Alive World Tour is set to hit Australia starting mid-August.

Josh Duhamel reflects on Netflix's ‘Ransom Canyon' renewal
Josh Duhamel has shared his thoughts on the return of Ransom Canyon following its official Season 2 renewal by Netflix. Speaking in a recent Zoom conversation covered by Forbes on June 30, 2025, Duhamel expressed gratitude for the support the show has received since its premiere. 'I'm grateful to be part of something that people really connected with,' he said from his home in Northern Minnesota. The actor described the series as a refreshing shift toward grounded, character-driven storytelling. Ransom Canyon, based on Jodi Thomas's novels, debuted in April 2025 and quickly entered Netflix's global Top 10. The story follows several families in a fictional Texas town, with Duhamel starring as Staten Kirkland, a rancher grappling with loss, family, and changing times. Netflix officially renewed the series on June 24, with production on Season 2 expected to begin in late 2025. Showrunner April Blair has confirmed that the writers' room is active and that the new season may feature a six-month time jump. The core cast including Minka Kelly, James Brolin, and Lizzy Greene is expected to return. No release date has been announced. As anticipation grows, Ransom Canyon continues to establish itself as one of Netflix's quieter hits, offering a blend of emotional depth and small-town realism.
