A Massachusetts native took home gold from the National Yo-Yo Contest in Las Vegas.
North Easton's Ryan Connolly won the 4A (Off-String) division at the national championship, where competitors use a yoyo that is not attached to the string.

This is Connolly's 5th national title, where he will now defend his title next month in Prague.
'It's nice to reclaim my title after a terrible run at the last Nationals,' he said.
Conolly's routine was performed to Michael Buble's rendition of 'Spider-Man,' earning him a 88.3 final score, more than 14 points better than his second place counterpart.
His full routine can be seen here.
Connolly first pick up a yo-yo 12 years ago after the NED show performed for his elementary school.
Since then, he's worked on honing his craft, appearing to defy physics with his yo-yo routine.
When he's not on stage, Connolly is a financial analyst who enjoys traveling, cars, and hitting the gym.

Cooper Flagg, Dylan Harper and NBA's next big thing highlight Vegas Summer League notes

The Bounce Newsletter | This is The Athletic's daily NBA newsletter. Sign up here to receive The Bounce directly in your inbox. Happy 35th birthday to Damian Lillard! The last couple of months haven't been great for the nine-time All-Star, but he still has more years left in his Hall of Fame career. Here's a fun video of four ridiculous game-winning buzzer-beaters from him. Get better soon, Dame, and happy birthday! Everything to know about summer league Bouncers, I have returned from the first weekend of Las Vegas Summer League, and let me tell you: It remains a spectacular experience. The city of Vegas is alive with NBA energy, the actual basketball is weird and there's a pizza stand that sells four items: pepperoni pizza, cheese pizza, an acai bowl and ranch dressing. And yes, John Hollinger bought the worst combination imaginable. I've got a lot of notes and impressions from the Vegas action, but for today, let's go over the lottery picks we saw (and didn't see) with an updated assessment/overreaction to those selections. (To be clear, yes the term 'assessment' is a bit sarcastic … don't get too upset just yet): My goodness! Maybe this is why some of these rookies have been kept out of games. Another Sixers star sidelined by surgery 🩼 Operation time. Paul George recently had a successful knee surgery and will be re-evaluated before training camp. Will Philly sign someone to make up for this? 🏀 Sweaty path. Before being drafted by the Timberwolves, Beringer used old-school workouts to reach the NBA. 'It was a hot-ass gym.' Advertisement 🏀 He's here. You'll never guess who LeBron James was in Vegas to watch at Summer League. Yes, it was his son, Bronny James – good guess. 💰 Get paid. The Pelicans gave Herb Jones a new contract extension: three years, $68 million. 💸 Staying put. The Cavaliers are keeping their front office together. Koby Altman is signed through 2030. 🎧 Tuning in. The latest edition of 'NBA Daily' discusses whether a former No. 1 overall pick should win Most Improved Player honors. The story of the greatest players in NBA history. In 100 riveting profiles, top basketball writers justify their selections and uncover the history of the NBA in the process. The story of the greatest players in NBA history. It's official: Blazers nailed Yang Hansen gamble Last month, when the Trail Blazers shocked the basketball world by taking projected second-round pick Yang Hansen with the 16th overall pick, we all wondered if they'd lost their minds. Yes, he had the cool distinction of being called the 'Chinese Nikola Jokić,' but we also remember when Nemanja Nedović was called the 'Serbian Derrick Rose.' Sometimes, those nicknames don't mean anything for unknown prospects. It's like a stuffed crust pizza: It sounds great, but you're likely to be disappointed by the actual results. The 20-year-old Hansen had a really promising – albeit short – career in the Chinese Basketball Association, averaging 16.6 points, 10.5 rebounds and three assists last season, but the level of competition made for an uncertain transition to the NBA. The tape on him looked fun, but NBA talent can expose a lot of those highlights as nothing more than great trailers for bad movies. After his first pass of summer league, I was intrigued. Ten seconds into his first game, Hansen dropped a bounce pass dime to a cutting Sidy Cissoko for the dunk: The Thomas & Mack crowd wasn't full, but it buzzed until that moment and grew into a frenzy every time Hansen had the ball. A couple minutes later, he whipped a one-handed hook pass just over the outreached mitt of Isaiah Mobley to DJ Carton for a layup, and everybody's eyebrows were raised: Hansen's overall stats through two summer league appearances are solid. In 24.8 minutes per game, he's averaging 10 points, 4.5 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and four turnovers. He's made 46.7 percent of his overall attempts, hit 83.3 percent of his free throws and shot 1-of-5 from deep. That lone made 3 was banked in from the right wing. Advertisement The numbers are almost irrelevant, though. Hansen is a galvanizing force on the floor. His perimeter defense leaves a lot to be desired, but his timing and instincts around the rim are already quite impressive. His feel for the game at 20 years old is mind-blowing. The Jokić comparisons are unreasonable because the three-time NBA MVP is one of the best players we've ever seen. However, Hansen shares similar qualities, and it goes beyond passing ability. His physicality will be the key to his success. His touch and control of the ball are tough to deal with because he's also so strong and physical. Jokić is mostly allowed to physically push defenders around and be the bully on the court. If Hansen is allowed similar liberties, he's going to dominate his opponent on offense. It's rare that summer league will change your mind about a player because the games don't actually have bearing on long-term NBA potential, but Hansen intrigued me almost immediately. The Blazers clearly knew what they were doing by selecting him so early. WNBA votes on some league superlatives Remember when we did our NBA anonymous players poll? Do you recall Tyrese Haliburton's peers (13 of them, at least) calling him overrated and motivating him to nearly lead the Pacers to an NBA championship? Well, the WNBA staff has conducted an anonymous players poll, with new topics being unveiled each day this week. I wanted to examine the first two questions. I love elitism and trash talk in basketball, so they're right up my alley. Make sure you're checking out the series all week long: Best player in the WNBA? This one was particularly gratifying for me because my favorite player was named the best by her peers. While I would have guessed A'ja Wilson would win this vote, Lynx forward Napheesa Collier barely boxed out the three-time WNBA MVP for the honor. Collier got 47.2 percent of the vote, while Wilson took home 41.6 percent. Breanna Stewart garnered 5.5 percent as two other players received one vote apiece. Advertisement Collier doesn't quite have the success of Wilson yet, but she nearly led her team to the title last season, is the best defensive player in the league and could be working on her first career MVP. Biggest trash talker? Even though the G.O.A.T. Diana Taurasi has retired, we still have someone from the Mercury winning this category. Alyssa Thomas ran away with it, garnering 39.3 percent of the vote. Lynx guard Courtney Williams (15.1 percent) and Sun guard Marina Mabrey (12.1 percent) came in second and third, respectively. Surprisingly, Caitlin Clark didn't get more than one vote here. My favorite quote from the players about Thomas: 'Everyone knows AT talks s—. I don't even guard her, and she talks s— to me.' Wynn Las Vegas Gathers Culinary Icons, Including Ducasse And Lagasse, For A Once-In-A-Lifetime Dinner

Revelry food festival returns in September. Wynn Las Vegas When Wynn Las Vegas' Revelry culinary festival arrives September 19 to 27, the hottest ticket will be the Icons Dinner, a once-in-a-lifetime meal from some of the world's most renowned chefs, including Alain Ducasse, Marcus Samuelsson, Emeril Lagasse, Dominique Crenn, Jacques Torres and Alfred Portale, the hotel exclusively shared with Forbes Travel Guide. During the 7 p.m. Sept. 27 dinner at the Four-Star hotel's new PISCES Bar & Seafare restaurant, a tasting menu will celebrate culinary excellence with each distinguished chef offering a signature dish. Alain Ducasse will be at the Icons Dinner. Wynn Las Vegas 'You're gonna really get dishes that defined these chefs throughout the years,' said chef Christopher Lee, vice president of Culinary Operations and Restaurant Development at Wynn Las Vegas. 'I really wanted to honor the bold, vibrant flavors of the Caribbean and the Bahamas,' Samuelsson said about his planned plate: jerk oxtail with lobster peas and rice, island curry, squash blossoms and pikliz (a pickled slaw). 'These places have given so much to global food culture.' 'The jerk oxtail brings that deep, smoky heat that I love, layered with spices that bring everything to the next level,' he said. 'Then we've got the lobster peas and rice, which nods to the Bahamian comfort classics but elevates it with that sweet, briny lobster that feels like a celebration.' The island curry pulls from both West Indian and African traditions, and the pikliz lends crunch, acid and a Haitian punch of flavor, he added. 'This dish is about connection between islands, cultures and kitchens.' Marcus Samuelsson will make jerk oxtail. Wynn Las Vegas According to Lee, the Icons were carefully chosen. 'They had to be, like OGs — iconic GOATs in the industry.' He then rattled off their bona fides: 'Marcus Samuelsson brought Scandinavian food to the forefront in New York City — his Ethiopian influence and his recent adventures are awesome. He's just dialed in.' Referencing Lagasse, Lee said, 'I know he's a big TV personality and some people might have opinions that he's more TV than culinary driven. But I will challenge that every day of the week because when he cooks for you, he cooks amazing food.' Lee said he's looking forward to meeting Alain Ducasse: 'When I was young, I was completely inspired by him.' Emeril Lagasse will cook up something special in Vegas. Wynn Las Vegas He added that Dominique Crenn, who returns for her second Revelry appearance, is one of the best chefs in the world. Lee also called Alfred Portale 'the godfather of New York City.' 'If you want to look at the chefs that really took New York American cuisine to the forefront, he's one of them.' And 'Jacques Torres is probably the most iconic chocolatier in the world,' he said. When Samuelsson reflects on his Icon status, he wants to pay it forward. 'I came to the U.S. 30 years ago, a young chef born in a hut in Ethiopia, raised in Sweden, with a dream about making it in New York City,' he said. 'Every part of that journey has shaped who I am today, and I don't take a second of it for granted. Being able now to give back and help raise up the amazing talents around me is the part of this stage of life that I value most.' The dinner will cap off the nine-day Revelry. Lee said what makes the food festival even more special is that it drew inspiration from Cirque du Soleil's residences to create 'immersive worlds' and add a Vegas spin. Rather than going to a tent to enjoy Chinese dim sum or Thai noodles, a set will transport you to Asia. There will also be more food-and-beverage-related entertainment this year. While Lee is leaving the specifics as a surprise, he said attendees can expect activities like last year's sacrificial cutting of a 350-pound tuna on stage with samurai swords. This will mark Dominique Crenn's second Revelry. Wynn Las Vegas Altogether, the second annual event will bring about 30 chefs to Vegas for a slate that includes culinary collaboration dinners (try the 'From Farm to Knife Lunch' with Katina and Kyle Connaughton of Five-Star SingleThread Farms Restaurant in Healdsburg and Jeff Ramsey of Wynn Las Vegas' Four-Star Mizumi) as well as 'connoisseur' classes (ranging from barbecue with pitmasters Burt Bakman of L.A.'s Slab and Daniel Castillo of San Juan Capistrano, California's Heritage Barbecue, to bourbon with Brother's Bond founder and actor Ian Somerhalder). Lee also will host an All-Star Dinner featuring chefs Angie Mar (Le B., New York), Gavin Kaysen (Spoon and Stable, Minneapolis), Fariyal Abdullahi (Hav & Mar, New York), JJ Johnson (Fieldtrip, New York) and pastry chefs Jennifer Yee (Wynn) and Juan Contreras (Atelier Crenn, San Francisco). Alfred Portale will bring New York cooking to Las Vegas. Wynn Las Vegas But the most coveted event will be the Icons Dinner — and not just for the guests. 'There's nothing more inspiring than coming together with culinary legends like Dominique Crenn, Alain Ducasse, Emeril Lagasse and Alfred Portale,' Samuelsson said. 'Each of them brings their own incredible flavor, story and spirit to the table. I can't wait to see the culinary power we create together and share that energy with every guest who joins us. Let's make it unforgettable.' The Icons Dinner will also serve craft cocktail pairings from Mariena Mercer Boarini, Wynn's master mixologist, and wines to complement each course from Brian Weitzman, the hotel's executive director of wine. Cooper Flagg's Physical Appearance is Turning Heads Before Summer League

Cooper Flagg's Physical Appearance is Turning Heads Before Summer League originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Cooper Flagg is set to appear in his first Summer League. Selected No. 1 overall by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2025 NBA Draft, expectations are high that Flagg will be able to make an immediate impact on the Mavs. Advertisement The 18-year-old forward is coming off a memorable season with the Duke Blue Devils, during which he averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists, while shooting 48.1% from the field and 38.5% from deep. Prior to being drafted, he had been compared to the likes of Scottie Pippen, Kawhi Leonard, Jayson Tatum and Lamar Odom, among many others. His first opportunity to show he can be a game-changer for Dallas will come in the Summer League. The Mavs are participating in the Las Vegas Summer League, which begins Thursday. In the build-of to the tournament, however, Flagg has been making headlines for a different reason. As the Mavs continue to promote Flagg and the rest of their Summer League team, fans couldn't help but take notice of the change in the youngster's physical appearance, particularly his facial hair. Advertisement Flagg already rocked a goatee during the NBA Draft, and since then, he has grown it a little bit more. Regardless, while some like it, others aren't big fans of it. "goatee flagg," a fan noticed. Another one shared, "That goatee adds so much aura to Cooper Flagg." "Goatee Flagg may be another animal," a third supporter added. A critic remarked, "He's gotta lose the Goatee." A fifth poster echoed a similar sentiment, writing, "Goatee is not it man." "He not cutting that goatee, huh?" a social media user stated.
