Pronto Italian Sandwiches to open in former BD's Mongolian Grill location in downtown Naperville
The restaurant is expected to make its Naperville debut by late June, owner Peter Burdi said.
'We're super excited,' Burdi said. 'I think it's going to be busy.'
The Naperville store will be the eatery's third location, said Burdi, who also operates two other suburban eateries: a sushi restaurant called Nabuki and Il Poggiolo Ristorante, specializing in Italian cuisine. Both are located in Hinsdale.
Pronto originally opened as a pop-up shop inside Il Poggiolo in February 2024, Burdi said. The concept was born out of a sandwich Burdi and his wife tried while in Italy a few years ago.
In 2021, the Burr Ridge couple went to Milan to visit their daughter, Isabella, who was studying abroad at the University of Milan. During the visit, Isabella insisted on taking them to her favorite sandwich shop, which she passed every day on the way to class, Burdi said. That's where Pronto got its start.
'We just kind of fell in love with the sandwiches that we were eating,' he said. They especially became infatuated with the specialty bread the shop used. Schiacciata is a crispy flatbread made with flour, water and olive oil.
Once back in the U.S., the Burdis tried to find a bakery that could make and supply the bread but ultimately decided to learn how to make it themselves. From there, they and their Il Poggiolo chef Saul Maya developed their own sandwiches using schiacciata.
Today, Pronto offers sandwich fixings ranging from roasted eggplant and spicy zucchini to burrata and pistachio cream. Its menu also includes a selection of salads and soups.
Alongside its pop-up location, Pronto also opened a space at O'Hare International Airport last fall, Burdi said. Soon, Pronto also will be moving out of Il Poggiolo and into its own standalone location at 114 S. Washington St. in downtown Hinsdale. That's slated to open over the next few weeks, he said.
As for its Naperville spot, Pronto will be opening in a portion of what had been BD's Mongolian space. That restaurant was shuttered more than a year ago by its corporate owners after the location became too expensive to operate.
What will fill out the rest of the grill's location has yet to be determined, said Katie Wood, executive director of the Downtown Naperville Alliance.
'The downtown Naperville food scene just got even more delicious and vibrant,' Wood said in an emailed statement Friday. 'We're thrilled to welcome Pronto Italian Sandwiches to our family of downtown restaurants. Get ready to experience the authentic flavors of Italy, where fresh ingredients and bold tastes come together to create unforgettable sandwiches.'
Burdi has applied for a liquor license from the city and hopes to serve Aperol spritz, espresso martinis and other Italian-inspired drinks, he said.
Asked what made Naperville an ideal home for his next venture, he said, 'It's such a great community,' adding there are 'a lot of great stores and restaurants in downtown Naperville and this will just add to the mix.'

Marlow Is Monte Carlo's First British Restaurant
Marlow is Monte Carlo's first British restaurant. Over the last few years, Monaco's culinary scene has shifted. Renowned for its glitz and glamour, Monte Carlo recently begun establishing itself as a culinary hotspot, drawing in visitors for its abundance of dining offerings, including popular restaurants like Pavyllon, The Blue Bay, Yoshi and Le Grill. Amazonico, COYA, BeefBar and Nobu also have locations in the capital. To further evolve its offerings, the destination just opened its first British restaurant, Marlow. 'British cuisine is in our DNA at Marlow,' says Bryan Gaillard, director of Marlow restaurant at Monte-Carlo Sociétes des Bains de Mer, in an email interview with Forbes."We believe that great food should be honest, seasonal, and elevated without ever feeling pretentious. That's exactly what we serve: beautifully crafted dishes for everyone, for any moment, whether it's a quiet dinner for two or a table full of friends raising a glass to something worth celebrating." Taking inspiration from English private members' clubs and the Mediterranean sun, it intends to serve food that feels effortless and can be enjoyed over a conversation. 'It's been so rewarding to see guests breaking bread together, passing dishes around and diving into flavors that nod to our British roots while still feeling fresh and relevant,' says Gaillard. 'Our signature plates are the soul of the menu, those familiar, bold flavors that keep the heart of Marlow unmistakably British, but we never let it feel heavy-handed. It's about striking the right note, and I think we've found it.' The British restaurant is known for its relaxed, shareable style of dining. The British restaurant is known for its relaxed, shareable style of dining. It offers English-inspired dishes, beginning from 8:30 am with a full English breakfast until midnight. Other menu specialities include Beef Wellington and truffle purée or the Marlow pie with walnuts, honey, mushrooms, rocket and Cheddar. On Sundays, the spot has brunch with complimentary champagne, and there is also an English tea time with pastries, finger sandwiches and scones. At the end of the day, the venue shifts into a sleek bar, complete with a cocktail menu that takes inspiration from British classics (like the Vesper Martini, Hanky Panky or Milk Punch). 'When it comes to drinks, I wanted our cocktail offering to stand shoulder to shoulder with the best in London, modern, clean, and driven by what's in season,' explains Gaillard. 'It's something we've worked hard to perfect, and now, having it all enjoyed on our beautiful new terrace overlooking the Mareterra esplanade feels like the missing piece. There's nothing quite like sipping a perfectly made cocktail as the Riviera sun sets. It's exactly the experience we envisioned when building out this concept.' Alongside British classic cocktails, Marlow will also serve a selection of whiskies, cognacs and rums and have a cigar cellar. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, there will be live music playing in the venue. Marlow is the latest addition to over twenty-five different restaurants from SBM, ranging from Café de Paris to Le Louis XV. Located within the newly opened eco-district of Mareterra, the all-day dining concept is the first restaurant to open within the new space.

STMicro to buy part of NXP Semiconductors' sensor business for up to $950 million
(Reuters) -French-Italian chipmaker STMicroelectronics said on Thursday it would acquire part of NXP Semiconductors' sensor unit for up to $950 million in cash. The deal would expand STMicro's portfolio of MEMS-based electromechanical sensors, which include safety and monitoring sensors for vehicles as well as pressure sensors for industrial applications. The unit generated revenue of about $300 million last year, STMicro said in a statement. As part of the agreement, STMicro would make an upfront payment of $900 million and $50 million on achieving certain technical milestones. The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2026. Chipmakers exposed to the struggling automotive, industrial, and consumer chip markets have faced a sales slump as they grapple with low demand and high inventories. Earlier in the day, STMicro, one of Europe's largest chipmakers, reported its first quarterly loss in over a decade as it took a $190 million hit from restructuring and impairment costs. Fabrizio Romano confirms interest in €50m-rated forward
Liverpool have already conducted a record-shattering summer transfer window with the promise of even MORE to come. We've seen Florian Wirtz arrive in a British record deal. The German cost £100m upfront and that fee could rise to £116m if all add-ons are activated. Then there's Hugo Ekitike. LFC x New Era Shop Now LFC Signed Merch Shop Now LFC x Titleist Shop Now The France under-21 striker has come on board from Eintracht Frankfurt for an initial £69m fee. But Liverpool have also been active in other positions - adding Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Giorgi Mamardashvili. It takes their total spend to over £250m and Richard Hughes is not done there. Alexander Isak remains in the club's sights and we could also see a centre-back deal done before the end of the window. Diaz leaving opens a space in the Liverpool squad Much will depend on outgoings at this point. It's no secret Liverpool are looking for buyers for Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez. Diaz is the subject of intense rumours linking him with Bayern Munich. Should the German side get close to Liverpool's valuation then he will be off. Nunez, meanwhile, has been spoken about as a potential signing for the Saudi Pro League. If he goes then Liverpool should be able to fund a move for Isak. A gap will open up on the left wing if Diaz joins Bayern. And with Liverpool flush with an extra €80m or so, the club will have the option to fund a replacement. Fabrizio Romano revealed earlier in the week that Bayern had got Malick Fofana on the list as an alternative to Diaz. €50m Fofana on the Liverpool list The Lyon winger, 20, has been one of the breakout stars of the last 12 months and whoever ends up signing the Belgian will be acquiring an elite winger who could star for a decade or more. Now that there appears to be an accord in sight between Liverpool and Bayern for Diaz, it means that €50m to €60m-rated Fofana is a suitor down. And now the Italian transfer supremo has claimed that Liverpool have got him on the list as a potential Diaz replacement. Romano: Liverpool appreciate Fofana "Don't forget Malick Fofana, who is a player appreciated at Bayern Munich — in case they can't sign Luis Díaz,' he revealed in a YouTube video. 'That's an exclusive story from the start of the week. 'He's also appreciated by Liverpool, but not the only option in the winger position. There are several clubs interested in Malick Fofana, and Liverpool are considering several options." © IMAGO - Malick Fofana Liverpol
