Volkswagen Amarok 10 Deserts Edition arrives alongside price cuts across the MY25 ute lineup

7NEWSa day ago

Pricing for the Volkswagen Amarok 10 Deserts Edition has been announced along with national drive-away pricing across the updated MY25 Volkswagen Amarok dual-cab ute lineup, bringing the cost of every variant down.
The entry-level Amarok Core TDI405 Core is now priced at $55,990 drive-away – $1000 more than its previous list price which did not include on-road costs, effectively making it up to $4000 cheaper than before.
The biggest cut, as predicted by CarExpert, has been applied to the only petrol model grade, the Amarok TSI452 Aventura, which now costs $79,990 drive-away (previously $82,990 plus on-roads).

The limited-edition 10 Deserts Edition TDI500 joins the lineup at $69,990 drive-away, positioned between the Amarok Life TDI500 ($61,990 drive-away) and the Style TDI500 ($72,740 drive-away).
The new model grade was inspired by the Guiness World Record set by a Volkswagen Amarok – using a modified V6 – after it crossed Australia's 10 deserts in six days and 17 hours.
'With the 10 Deserts Edition, the refinement of the Amarok has been given a tougher edge, offering genuine off-road ability and benchmark ground clearance, while still being a premium-appointed ute that drivers want to be in,' said Volkswagen Australia commercial vehicles product manager Michael Cenci.
The 10 Deserts Edition brings off-road focused upgrades including 17-inch satin black wheels wrapped in Continental ATR (all-terrain) tyres, a 40mm suspension lift and extra underbody protection.
The changes bring 275mm of ground clearance – 3mm more than the Ford Ranger Raptor and a healthy increase from the rest of the Amarok range's 235mm.
A black sports bar, soft tonneau cover, floor mats and special decals complete the 10 Deserts Edition treatment.
Other changes for the MY25 Amarok lineup include a 230V power socket in the tub of Style, PanAmericana and Aventura grades, facilitated by a 400W invertor that enables electrical appliances, laptops and battery packs to be plugged in.
The same model grades also now come with Trailer Assist as standard, which Volkswagen says has been updated to work more seamlessly with the Amarok's Rear Traffic Alert system.
There are no changes on the outside apart from a new Reed Green Metallic paint colour, which replaces Mid Blue Metallic on the Amarok colour chart.
Cab/chassis Core, Life and Style variants are fitted with a factory alloy tray measuring 1900mm long and 1835mm wide, with a 1650mm internal length, for an additional $4000 over their pickup equivalents.
A 243kg steel tray can also be added as a dealer-fit option instead of the alloy tray, which has an official weight of 132kg, and both tubs are covered by Volkswagen Australia's five-year, unlimited-kilometre new vehicle warranty.

MG's first ute to get shorter warranty

MG Motor Australia has announced shorter warranty periods for its upcoming MG U9 dual-cab ute compared to its passenger car lineup, which is backed by one of the longest new-vehicle warranties in Australia – but owners must now complete scheduled services at MG dealers to receive a full 10-year warranty. The U9 was confirmed for the local MG lineup earlier this year and is due in local showrooms by the end of 2025, but while key details have emerged, pricing and equipment levels are yet to be officially announced. One thing MG has confirmed is the warranty period for its new Ford Ranger, Toyota HiLux and Isuzu D-Max fighter. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now. Supplied Credit: CarExpert MG is one of three auto brands that offer a conditional 10-year warranty in Australia, the others being Mitsubishi and Nissan. MG's 10-year/250,000km extended warranty (in addition to its seven-year/unlimited-km standard warranty) applies to private buyers of all models (including hybrid and electric vehicles), while a seven-year/160,000km applies to fleet and business customers. In contrast, Nissan's 10-year/300,000km warranty and Mitsubishi a 10-year/200,000km warranty applies to all buyers but is conditional on servicing at each Japanese brands' authorised dealerships – if not the warranty is five years (or unlimited-km for Nissan and 100,000km for Mitsubishi. Now, however, MG has announced the U9 dual-cab warranty will be limited to five years and 160,000km for commercial buyers, while private buyers will be offered a five-year/unlimited-km warranty, extendable to seven years and 200,000km if they service exclusively with MG dealers. The MG U9 is twinned with the upcoming LDV Terron 9 dual-cab (both utes share the same underpinnings, powertrains and key equipment) because MG and LDV are both part of Chinese auto giant SAIC Supplied Credit: CarExpert The Terron 9 arrives in Australian dealers this month with a seven-year/200,000km warranty and, unlike the U9, there's no requirement to service the vehicle at an LDV dealership to receive the full seven-year waranty. Ford's Ranger – Australia's best-selling vehicle for the past two years as well as being the nation's most popular dual-cab ute – is backed by a five-year/unlimited-km warranty, the same as the brand's passenger vehicles. Its HiLux arch-rival also comes with the same five-year/unlimited-km warranty as Toyota passenger vehicles. However, both fall short of the conditional 10-year warranties offered by competitors including the Nissan Navara and Mitsubishi Triton, and the seven-year warranties offered by LDV, the GWM Cannon, JAC T9 and upcoming Kia Tasman – and now private buyers of the U9 if they service with MG. MG announced its 10-year extended warranty on August 1, 2024, and its requirement for in-house scheduled servicing comes into effect for vehicles sold from today (July 1, 2025). For both its standard and extended warranties, MG requires servicing to be completed within 30 days and 2000km of a vehicle's scheduled service intervals. MORE: Everything MG

Volkswagen, BMW and Mercedes-Benz team up to develop connected vehicle software

Germany's automakers – the Volkswagen Group, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz – are teaming with up the nation's auto suppliers to jointly develop underlying software for vehicles. They are part of a consortium of 11 companies brought together by Germany's Automotive Industry Association (VDA) that will develop an open-source software stack, which will authenticate car components and handle communication between them as well as with cloud services, customer interfaces, and the overarching operating systems of vehicles. Most of the software being developed by the consortium will be 'non-differentiating', and not items that drivers or passengers will directly interact with. This means that user interfaces, such as BMW's iDrive and Mercedes-Benz's MBUX, will continue to be developed in-house, and remain completely distinct from each other. Members of the consortium are also free to continue developing, distributing and using their own software as required. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Supplied Credit: CarExpert But by coming together, the companies hope to bring down the cost of software development, while also speeding up new model delivery times 'in order to stay competitive in the global market'. Established automakers from Europe, Asia and the US have largely been caught flat-footed by the Chinese automotive industry's speedy rise up the leaderboard over the last few years. Many factors have contributed to their success, including sharp pricing, more appealing designs, and eye-catching user-facing technology. Thanks in part to their large home market, Chinese automakers have also been able to iterate their designs and technologies at a fierce pace. The consortium plans to have the first version of its software stack available for use in development vehicles by 2026, and hopes to have its tech in showrooms by 2030. Other companies involved in the consortium include Bosch, Continental, ETAS, Hella, Qorix, Valeo Brain, Vector, and ZF. According to Automobil Woche, talks are already under way to bring French automakers and suppliers into the consortium via that country's automotive association.

2025 MG HS Super Hybrid prices cut ahead of Australian release

MG Motor Australia has announced lower national drive-away pricing for its MG HS Super Hybrid ahead of its September arrival Down Under, where the new-generation plug-in hybrid (PHEV) mid-size SUV will be priced from $50,990 drive-away. That means MG's answer to the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, BYD Sealion 6 and GWM Haval H6 GT – will now cost $2000 less than previously announced in entry-level Excite form. The same PHEV powertrain is also offered in the HS Essence, which will be $1000 cheaper than expected at $54,990 drive-away. The move reduces the price premium between the equivalent petrol-only MG HS and Super Hybrid versions to $14,000, with the non-hybrid MG HS Excite unchanged at $36,990 drive-away and the Essence at $40,990 drive-away. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now. The 'Super Hybrid' powertrain used in both variants offers a claimed 1000km of total driving range from its 55-litre fuel tank and 24.7kWh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery. Under the bonnet is a 220kW/350Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine driving the front wheels. MG will also launch the MG HS Hybrid+ – distinct from the plug-in 'Super Hybrid' – in the second half of 2025. A rival for the top-selling Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, the HS Hybrid+ will have combined fuel consumption of 5.2L.100km, but MG is yet to confirm local model grades or pricing. To compete with the RAV4, HS Hybrid+ vehicles will need to be priced below the Super Hybrid versions of the HS. The new-generation MG HS was introduced in Australia in late 2024 – a full 12 months ahead of Super Hybrid variants – with regular versions powered by a 1.5-litre 125kW/275Nm four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. The price change makes the HS Super Hybrid the same price as MG's bigger Toyota Kluger-sized, seven-seat petrol-powered MG QS Essence – the highest model grade of the Chinese brand's new large SUV – and $4000 more than the entry-level QS Excite.
