Katy Perry's Dating History — Who Has Katy Perry Dated?

Katy Perry's Dating History — Who Has Katy Perry Dated?

Cosmopolitan3 days ago
Katy Perry is single following her breakup with professional elf actor Orlando Bloom, so now seems like as good a time as any to brush off her dating history. Which, honestly? Is absolutely stacked with famous people—including some complete randoms (Diplo) who we fully forgot about.
Katy and late actor Johnny Lewis dated for about a year in the early aughts. It was before Katy was ultra-ultra famous so their relationship wasn't extensively reported on!
Katy and the Gym Class Heroes frontman dated for less than a year, and apparently Katy broke things off via email. At least according to Travie, who said, "It started off with 'I love you so much I hate to do this...Someone that you are ready to spend the rest of your life with sends you a fucking email just shitting on your whole parade. It destroyed me."
These two had a brief fling in 2009, and it made enough of an impression that Katy wrote "The One That Got Away" about Josh. He was asked about inspiring the song by Andy Cohen, and replied "We did [date]. We were both very private, and so we realized we were better as friends. And we've been very, very good friends to this day. She's the best. But, I was not expecting that. That was a double take and a spit out my coffee when I saw that."
Katy and Russell met at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, married in 2010, and then divorced 14 months later. Katy opened up about their split to Vogue, saying "At first when I met him, he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal, but then they get that equal and they're like, I can't handle the equalness. He didn't like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. So that was really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting. Let's just say I haven't heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011."
Russell has since been charged with rape and sexual assault in the UK, which he has denied.
Katy seems to have briefly dated the Florence and the Machine guitarist? By which I mean E! News reported that they were seen holding hands at Coachella, where Katy reportedly referred to him as her "boyfriend."
Their relationship was extremely on-again off-again, but it all started over dinner at Chateau Marmont in August 2012. Then it briefly ended in April 2013, when a source told E! News "John still very much loves [Katy] and has feelings for her. It was just going to be too much with what was on his plate." They were back together by June, there were engagement rumors by November, and they were officially done in February 2014.
John's since confirmed that his song "Still Feel Like Your Man" is about Katy, telling the New York Times, "Who else would I be thinking about? And by the way, it's a testament to the fact that I have not dated a lot of people in the last five, six years. That was my only relationship. So it's like, give me this, people."
Katy and Diplo were linked in April 2014, when they showed up at Coachella together. The relationship didn't last, and Katy ranked Diplo third on her list of ex-lovers (after John Mayer and Orlando Bloom). He responded by tweeting "I don't even remember having sex."
As we know from Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet's makeout session, the Golden Globes is one of the horniest events in Hollywood. And it's where Katy and Orlando hit it off! They started dating mere weeks after the above photo was taken, and were going strong for almost a year before breaking things off in February of 2017. Their rep even released a statement to People, saying, "Before rumors or falsifications get out of hand, we can confirm that Orlando and Katy are taking respectful, loving space at this time."
Meanwhile, Katy tweeted this:
The pair were back together by 2018, and even went "Visit to the Pope Official":
They then got engaged in 2019, and welcomed their daughter Daisy Dove a couple years later in 2020!
Katy and Orlando then spent five years chilling in Montecito together, but everything changed in 2025 and they ended up parting ways. TBD on what went wrong, but according to a source who spoke to the Daily Mail, Orlando wasn't here for Katy's brief trip to space.
"He told her the whole thing looked ridiculous," the insider said. "He said it was cringeworthy. Embarrassing. This was in the middle of a fight, and it hurt her feelings. Of course she was hurt. Imagine going to space—motherfucking space—and your partner isn't impressed. She hoped he'd be more supportive."
That brings us up to date, but stay tuned...

From the Archives: Kirsten Dunst as the Young Queen in Sofia Coppola's Film Marie Antoinette

'Teen Queen,' by Kennedy Fraser, was originally published in the September 2006 issue of Vogue. For more of the best from Vogue's archive, sign up for our Nostalgia newsletter here. Sofia Coppola's film Marie Antoinette, covering the nineteen years that fabulous and tragic woman spent at Versailles, created a sensation when it opened earlier this year in France. It was filmed largely on location in the palace, with unswerving support from the directors of the museum. For the two leading actors—Kirsten Dunst as the young queen and Coppola's cousin Jason Schwartzman as King Louis XVI—it was a transformative experience to walk in rustling silk and tapping heels through halls filled with ghosts. For Dunst, exquisitely but unstuffily costumed by Milena Canonero (who deserves an Oscar for this work), it was a very sensual role. 'You breathe differently in those dresses; you move in a special way,' Dunst says. To prepare herself, on the night a scaled-down crew was filming her in the emotionally charged balcony scene, she walked alone through the palace in the dark. 'I could look in those mirrors,' she says. 'Be still in myself. Feel my place in that house.' It is Coppola's third full-length film, after The Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation. With a $40 million budget, it is by far her most ambitious project. She was aware that her subject is controversial—that people, especially in France, either see the queen as a saint and martyr or really, really hate her. But Coppola forgot about all that and brought her own Marie Antoinette to life. In her film, history is seen from a very feminine young woman's point of view. In the director's mind it forms a trilogy with the previous two films, exploring the theme of young women discovering who they are. The queen's love of fashion particularly interested her. 'You're considered superficial and silly if you're interested in fashion,' Coppola says. 'But I think you can be substantial and still be interested in frivolity. The girl in Lost in Translation is just about to figure out a way of finding herself, but she hasn't yet. In this film she makes the next step. I feel that Marie Antoinette is a very creative person.' In 1770, the fourteen-year-old Archduchess Marie Antoinette left her home in Austria and traveled to meet her fifteen-year-old fiancé, the dauphin, heir to the throne of France. She was an attractive little thing, with blonde hair, blue eyes, a fine pale skin, and the pouting Hapsburg-family lower lip. She was the fifteenth child of a formidable mother, the Empress Maria Theresa, who led her huge empire so efficiently that she went on reading state papers while she was giving birth. At the last minute it had been discovered that the future bride (who liked dancing and playing with children and dolls) could barely read and write. Her mother arranged for a crash education and a makeover, including cosmetic dentistry, a less provincial hairdo, and a complete new wardrobe of French-style clothes. Then the girl rolled through the forest in a special gilded coach with gold roses (symbol of the Hapsburgs) and lilies (symbol of the Bourbons) nodding in a topknot on the roof. Behind the huge glass windows she was like a jewel in a padded case. From now on, her mother had warned her, all eyes would be upon her, and she should do what she was told. Maria Theresa had anxious premonitions; her girl was lively and affectionate in nature but had the attention span of a flea.

When someone important emails you without a subject line

Alison Leiby remembers feeling her heart beat harder when she saw the email without a subject line appear on her phone. It was from Anna Wintour, longtime editor of American Vogue. As Leiby tapped on the message and waited for it to load, she felt a bolt of anxiety and thought, "Oh, God. What is about to happen?" To her relief, Wintour's two-sentence message offered congratulations on a one-woman, off-Broadway show Leiby created and starred in. Wintour had been in the audience on opening night in May 2022, Leiby told Business Insider. While she didn't need to worry about the contents of the message, Leiby nevertheless found it unnerving to receive an email sans subject line — especially from the doyen of fashion. "In a professional context, it's genuinely terrifying because the door is open for it to be anything," said Leiby, a comedian whose writing credits include the TV series "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel." It's been reported that Wintour, who recently said she would give up her role as editor in chief of the Americanfashion glossy to devote more time to other responsibilities at the magazine and its parent company, sometimes sends emails without subject lines. Despite Leiby's initial anxiety about the message, she later posted a screenshot of the email on social media, describing it as "the best email of my life." A representative for Vogue didn't respond to a request for comment from BI about the message to Leiby or Wintour's email practices. While leaving the subject line blank might work for some leaders —especially busy ones — workplace observers told BI that it's often a good idea to include one in business communications. Picking the right subject line Kathleen Schmidt, a publishing consultant in New York City, forces herself to add a subject line to most client emails she sends, even though she " hates" having to summarize a message with a title. "They're just impossible to come up with sometimes," Schmidt told BI. So, for less formal communications with colleagues, she'll often omit them. Schmidt sometimes does the same with friends or her husband — a practice that Schmidt said "drives him nuts." "It's from me. What do you think it's going to say? Like, 'We won a million dollars?'" Schmidt said. Thinking about your audience Barring a life-changing financial windfall, including a subject line for work communications is often beneficial because it can help people suss out what's most pressing, Lizzie Post, great-great-granddaughter of etiquette authority Emily Post and coauthor of the book "Emily Post's Business Etiquette," told BI. Those keywords can help people categorize a message and provide insights into its significance, she said. "It's really important, I think, for the vast majority of us," Post said. "But I'm also a Vogue devotee. I will not go against the queen." Kate Walker, a human resources consultant and executive coach in California, offered a similar assessment. Even though the summaries can be annoying, they have a purpose, Walker told BI. "When I'm writing a subject line, I need to think about my audience," she said. "We're competing for people's time." Leiby, the comedian, said that working as a performer and writer means she's grown accustomed to getting rejection emails. Even seeing an email from someone she'd interviewed with for a job can be nerve-racking, Leiby said. Yet, when a message arrives without a subject, "your heart stops for a minute," she said. "You're like, 'Oh, God, is this about to change my life in a good way or a bad way?'" Leiby said.
