The Morning After: Samsung's big foldable Unpacked event takes place on July 9
The third Unpacked of 2025 (following installments in January and May) will be on July 9 at 10AM ET, kicking off in Brooklyn, New York. The company usually debuts its latest foldables in the summer, so we're expecting to see the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 here. However, there's an extra wrinkle (don't say wrinkle with foldables!): It's looking like the premium Galaxy Z Fold Ultra is joining the family.
What exactly can you expect? We've written all about it. When it comes to foldables, one recent leak suggested Gemini Live will be a core part of the foldables' presentation — which would make sense with this form factor. You'd be able to chat with the foldables without having to unfurl them. Leaked renders suggest the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will have a slimmer profile than the prior model and even a navy blue option. Escape from the grey! If the renders are accurate, the cover display and inner display will be bigger too. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 will also get a bigger screen, apparently.
Then there's the Galaxy Z Fold Ultra. There are no specs teased yet, but the company insists this will have 'industry-leading hardware, cutting-edge performance and seamless AI integration optimized for the foldable format.' This doesn't appear to be the tri-fold design we've heard and seen in various places, however. Maybe that's a Fold 8 situation.
Typically, Samsung will take the opportunity to update its accessories too, so there's a good chance we'll see the Galaxy Watch 8 and/or the Galaxy Buds. Roll on July 9 to see what appears.

Tesla quietly launched its robotaxi service over the weekend for a small group of very vocal test passengers. The Sunday rollout included only a small number of cars and heavy human supervision. The company's cautious rollout ultimately seems for the best — at least one robotaxi attempted to drive on the wrong side of the road. The ride video shared by Rob Maurer showed the Tesla's wheel start jerking back and forth, and the car briefly crosses to the wrong side of the road. (The in-car supervisor didn't appear to do anything.) Other early riders have shared multiple instances of robotaxis going over the speed limit.

Apple has already walked back some of the proposed design revisions it announced during WWDC 2025. 9to5Mac noticed the most recent developer betas included a darker, blurrier level of transparency, making parts of iOS et al easier to read and less of a carcrash, visually.
The other change reversed was the Finder app in macOS Tahoe. The previous developer beta flipped the colors in the icon, putting blue on the right and white on the left. Yeah, that's it. Aren't there many, many more things to complain and be worried about in June 2025?
According to an image leaked on X and Game Sandwich, Xbox is reportedly teaming up with Meta to release an Xbox-branded Quest 3S headset in the coming days. The rumored specs show a very similar build to the base model Quest 3S with 128GB of storage but will reportedly be bundled with an Xbox wireless controller, a Meta Quest Elite strap and three months of Xbox Game Pass. Specs-wise, it seems largely the same VR headset, just with a moodier paint job. Given we've just seen the ASUS handheld collaboration, Xbox is having a busy hardware quarter.

Samsung Teases ‘Wildly Thin' Galaxy Z Fold 7 Before Launch

Photographer: SeongJoon Cho/Bloomberg While Samsung slashes the cost of its Galaxy S25 Ultra and raises trade-in prices to the highest levels I've ever seen, the Korean company is also preparing to launch its Galaxy Z Fold 7 by teasing its new design. Again. In an email to Samsung device users, the company has a selection of quotes from YouTuber Parker Burton, who has seemingly used the device ahead of launch. 'This is wildly thin,' Burton is quoted saying in the promotional email. Continuing 'When you have this thing folded, it's going to feel just like your regular phone.' It's not uncommon for smartphone manufacturers to tease aspects of their phones ahead of launch to build hype. Samsung, in particular, has been increasingly loose with information about its products before they're officially announced. But the Korean company has taken this to another level with the Fold 7. We have already seen a silhouette of the device from all angles via Samsung's press team—confirming how slim the phone is—with the names of the devices included in the press image file. The company has also published press releases outlining what upgrades to expect from the Fold 7. 'For years, Samsung has listened to users asking for bigger screens, better cameras, and new ways to connect and create.' One release read, hinting that the Fold 7 will have an improved camera and a bigger screen. The latter was confirmed to me by a Samsung executive earlier this month. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 Is A Reset Device For Samsung All of this tells me that Samsung sees the Fold 7 as a serious shift from what has come before. A reset, if you will, of the Fold series. The same criticisms pop up after every Fold launch. There's the tall, unusual, aspect ratio on its front screen, the average camera output (again, for a phone that costs as much as a good laptop), and the chunkiness. Samsung sees the new device as an answer to all of that and, as such, making it clear that the Fold 7 allays all of those fears. I'm sure the threat of companies that have made strides in slimming down their foldable phones, adding top-end cameras and bigger screens from the likes of Oppo, OnePlus and Google lit a fire under Samsung to make these design changes. We will have to see if the Fold 7 measures up to the competition and provides the reset the series clearly needs.

Samsung Drops Galaxy S25 Ultra Price In Major New Double Offer

First Apple raised its trade-in prices, Samsung then went even further and Google ultimately beat them both with eye-wateringly high trade-in valuations. Now, Samsung is back with a brand new double discount for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This story was updated on June 28th with a new Samsung deal. Update below. In an effort to push people to buy hardware through its Samsung Shop app, the company will knock 10% off the Galaxy S25 series if the code 'JUNE25' is used. This only applies to shoppers in the U.K., but let me know if it works elsewhere. This isn't the first time Samsung has randomly dropped a new limited-time code. Back in February, the Korean company launched a promotional 'S25APP' code that knocked 5% off the Galaxy S25 lineup when bought through the app. This new voucher doubles the company's last offer and is consistent with the sheer deluge of deals Samsung is rolling out right now. It's worth noting that Samsung runs a permanent voucher code ('APP5') when you buy anything in its shopping app. The company will also throw in discounts if several devices are bought together, which aren't always promoted. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to the bundle discounts because I often just add things to my basket to see what promotions they trigger. For this S25 deal, the voucher isn't the only promotion Samsung is currently running for its flagship phone. It will pay at least £200 ($272.15) when you trade in any Android phone. The Korean company is also giving away a free Galaxy Tab A9 Plus (until June 26th) with all S25 purchases (base and Ultra models). Samsung's New Galaxy Phone Discount Strategy the new Galaxy S25 Edge has seen some of Samsung's best offers yet. The star of the show, however, is Samsung's new trade-in pricing for British shoppers. Historically, U.S. Samsung smartphone customers get access to free subscriptions and huge trade-in deals that pay hundreds of dollars for years-old phones. In the U.K., the trade-in prices are poor, but British shoppers get free devices bundled with their Galaxy phones. The Korean company has changed that with new pricing, which not only raises trade-in valuations for U.K. customers but also beats U.S. pricing in some places. So British shoppers get a free tablet and trade-in prices that beat the historically high American valuations. Not only is this a solid deal, it's a good omen for people in the U.K. who want to buy Samsung phones in the future. It's not clear why Samsung upped its trade-in prices, or why it is repeatedly combining several generous deals. Perhaps it wants to clear stock before the imminent Galaxy Z Fold 7 release, or reports about slow Galaxy S25 Edge sales are accurate. What is clear, however, is that Google's latest Samsung-busting trade-in deal, and Apple's brief trade-in promotion, shows that major smartphone manufacturers are in a discount dogfight. Update June 28th: Samsung is emailing registered users about its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 device with two discount offers. Of course, the device isn't mentioned by name, but it's an open secret that the Fold 7 and Flip 7 will land on July 9th, with the Korean company itself repeatedly teasing both devices. Samsung is handing out £50 ($68.61) vouchers to whoever fills in its marketing questionnaire. It's a short survey that asks what phone you're currently using, what specifications are important to you and where you buy your phones from. The company will then send the voucher, which can only be used on buying one of the new foldable phones, by July 9th. There's also the option to reserve the device with a refundable deposit, which comes with a free unnamed accessory (likely a phone case). Elsewhere, Samsung is offering £25 ($34.31) off of a 'Galaxy ecosystem device,' which likely refers to the new Galaxy Watch 8 or existing wearables. These pre-release offers are fairly standard for the company. It rolled out an almost identical promotion ahead of the Galaxy S25 launch in February. If you're dead set on buying the Fold 7, there's no harm in claiming your free voucher now. Although, as we've seen with repeated Fold 6 and Galaxy S25 price drops, it's always better to wait for bigger savings in a couple of months.

I worked at Tesla for 7 years. I quit because I couldn't support Elon Musk any longer.
Trae Cervantes worked at Tesla for more than seven years. Cervantes held several roles at Tesla's factory in Sparks, Nevada. He told Business Insider what it was like working at the company and why he chose to leave. This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Trae Cervantes, who worked as an engineering technician at Tesla until March 2025. It has been edited for length and clarity. I started at Tesla's Gigafactory in Nevada as a production associate in 2018, and I worked my way into a role as an engineering technician. I held at least four different positions during my time at Tesla. I was drawn to Tesla because I needed a way to improve my situation. Leading up to Tesla, I wasn't doing super well. I'd gone through a divorce, I got arrested for drinking and driving, and I was working two jobs to make ends meet. One of my best friends was working there and he told me to apply. When I got the job, I quit the two jobs and immediately got a better paying role with more time off. The reason I stayed is because they kept treating me well. I was getting paid the most I'd ever gotten in my adult life. No education, no real skills to speak of, and Tesla offered me opportunities to take charge of my life and grow my career. I started out on their production line for the Model 3 and I moved up from there. When I started out, it was grueling work. It was pushing heavy things up and down aisles. I was on my feet for 12 hours a day, but they also give you three to four days off a week to recover. It was a physically demanding job, but it didn't bother me. I knew that if I demonstrated a good work ethic I could work my way up, and that's what I've done. Every few years I was able to move up, from production associate to technician to eventually lead and engineering roles. A month into a new role, it was March 2020, and we were all furloughed. It was a big freak-out moment for me. Nobody was telling us what was going on, and I felt like I was going to lose my job. But we were back to work five weeks later and I learned to work around the new COVID safety standards. I felt like I really took ownership of my area, and I eventually became a lead for that team. To do it, I really had to show my value — I had to leverage my skills and build the relationships and rapport. That's what you have to do at Tesla — the skills aren't enough, you also need the relationships, and you need to show you can pick up the slack because things are always changing there. In 2023, they provided me an opportunity to go to school through a program at a local community college. They helped me get a certificate in advanced manufacturing. I took nine courses between January and May, all while I was still doing my normal duties, and I even made the Dean's list. Later on I got another certificate, a green belt certification for Lean Six Sigma. I never drank the Elon Musk Kool Aid. When I started at my orientation, they talked about his controversial tweets. They said it's gotten him in hot water with the Securities and Exchange Commission, but they were mostly joking about it, like his behavior was okay because of who he was, what he does, or however much he's worth. There's always been that kind of mindset at Tesla, a cult of personality around Elon. I remember when he smoked weed on the Joe Rogan Experience, seeing so many T-shirts referencing it at the Gigafactory. I'd thought some of the things he'd done were wrong, like the Thai diver incident, but I believed in the mission. Then all of a sudden, he jumped into a capacity where he could impact my daily life. His involvement in Twitter, his involvement in the election, all of that was detracting from the company's mission. I didn't realize how much it mattered to me until the last couple of months. When Musk started throwing his money around in politics — that was a big thing for me. What I took issue with the most was the giveaway for prospective voters. It seemed so morally wrong. I didn't want to be associated with that. I started actively looking into his history, and the company's. The stock price and how we're making money — none of it made sense to me. That was another reason I wanted to get out. There are a lot of empty promises that haven't been fulfilled, like Full Self-Driving or the lower-cost EV. When he lifted his arm and did that Nazi salute, I was disgusted. (Editor's note: While discussing the incident with Joe Rogan, Musk said, "Hopefully, people realize I'm not a Nazi.") Last year, I started to be ashamed to tell people where I work. I chatted with a couple of folks at Tesla and I explained to them why I believed that that was a Nazi salute, and most of the time they just heard me out. Near the end of my time at Tesla, I started bringing up politics because I'd kind of got to a point where I didn't really care. I started working on my resumé. I spoke with my wife, my very close friends, and I explained the reason I wanted to leave. My wife just wants me to be happy. A lot of my friends are really, really pissed off at Musk, just like I am. They were all excited for me to leave the company. I have a pretty good support system. I changed my profile on Teams to a meme of Musk. I resigned that day. When I first left, I gave myself a hard time. I didn't have a job lined up, and I could have stayed longer or waited to get laid off and gotten severance at least. But then I started thinking about the layoffs last April, and I remember sitting in the building, seeing people send out text messages and Teams messages and wondering if they had a job. There were people who didn't find out until they got to the security gate at the factory. Why would I want to go through that? Between that and then the day when Trump bought a Tesla on the White House lawn, which happened the same day I gave my resignation notice, I felt more resolute in my decision. When I met with my supervisor and put in my notice, I told him, "I have to leave. I can't do this anymore. It's getting to a point where I feel like I'm compromising myself morally by walking through those doors every day." I'm not going to lie, I cried a little. Seven years is a long time and Tesla wasn't always a bad thing for me. What I would tell people is, if you're sitting in my shoes, and you feel uncomfortable, go for it. Do what you think will help you sleep at night. There are plenty of good people at Tesla. I didn't leave the place because of the company.
