2031 Ryder Cup to be hosted in Girona, Spain, says Catalan golf federation
Ramon Nogué, president of the Catalan golf federation, told the AP by phone Friday that 'next week it will be official' that Girona will be announced as the host of the golfing event between the best male players of Europe and the United States.
The choice of Girona was first reported by Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia.
'Any announcement in relation to future editions of the Ryder Cup will be made in due course,' Ryder Cup Europe said.
This will be the second time for Spain to host the Cup after Valderrama in 1997, and just the fourth time it will be played in continental Europe after Le Golf National outside Paris in 2018 and Marco Simone outside Rome in 2023.
The Ryder Cup is closely tied to Spain because of European team stalwarts Seve Ballesteros, José María Olazábal and Sergio García.
This year's Ryder Cup will be held at Bethpage Black in New York in September. The next one staged in Europe is in 2027 at Adare Manor in Ireland.

Woad wins on pro debut as Aussie challenge withers away
Lottie Woad has claimed her first professional victory on her debut by winning the Women's Scottish Open title by three shots. There was little cheer for Australia, however, with Karis Davidson, Cassie Porter and Minjee Lee all finishing bunched in joint 21st, 16 shots adrift of Woad. Woad made par on the 17th before a pinpoint approach set up a birdie on the 18th to wrap up the title. She becomes the first player to win on their professional Ladies European Tour debut since Singapore's Shannon Tan, at the Magical Kenya Ladies Open in February 2024. Woad said on Sky Sports: "It's a pretty good outcome, I guess! Definitely wasn't expecting to win my first event, but I knew I was playing well so I was kind of hoping to contend. "I played really solid today. It was pretty nice in the end, could lay up on the par five. "Links golf is really fun, don't get to play it too often. This is my first time playing links golf since the Open last year. I wasn't exactly sure how it would go, but it went fine!" Woad finished three shots ahead of second-placed Kim Hyo-joo, who fired seven birdies and three bogeys in a mixed fourth round. Julia Lopez Ramirez and Kim Sei-young shared third on 14 under, with world No.1 Nelly Korda a shot back in fifth. English duo Alice Hewson and Charley Hull finished tied for 10th and 21st, respectively. Attention now turns to the Women's Open at Royal Porthcawl, which begins on Thursday. Looking ahead to that tournament, Woad added: "Even if I hadn't won this week, I'd still be trying to win it and just trying to be up there really is all you can ask for going into the final day."

BASEL, Switzerland (AP) — Spain leads England 1-0 at halftime in the Women's European Championship final on Sunday after scoring a very English-style goal. Mariona Caldentey's header in the 25th minute was fair reward for Spain's precise passing patterns around the tightly packed England penalty area. It was the fourth time in England's six games at this tournament that the defending champion trailed to the first goal before halftime. The English flavor to the opening goal was in a full back's cross from the byline finding the head of an Arsenal player to score as Ona Battle sent an accurate cross from the byline to Caldentey. Caldentey had gone close with a shot just minutes before scoring and tournament top scorer Esther González also had three scoring chances. Still, England had a clear chance to lead in the 19th. Spain goalkeeper Cata Coll saved well from Lauren Hemp's low shot after her own reckless pass in the penalty area gifted the ball to the England winger. There was royalty from both nations in the VIP box watching the game. Prince William, who is the first in line to the British throne, was with his daughter Princess Charlotte.
