Metal fence on railway track, Vande Bharat stops short; Ahmedabad City Police probing sabotage angle
The FIR in this regard was filed at Ghatlodia police station at 4.30 am on Monday morning, based on a complaint by a Senior Section Engineer (SSE) of the Western Railway (WR).
The engineer said he received a call at 8.58 pm on Sunday that a 'metal angle' had come under the train no. 26902 Veraval – Sabarmati Vande Bharat Express. When he reached the spot between Chandlodiya and Khodiyar railway stations, he saw a 20-feet-long stretch of red and yellow coloured railway fence, bent and lying to the side of the tracks, he stated in the FIR.
By that time, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) had also reached the spot. Upon confirming with other officials, the engineer learnt that the loco pilot had spotted the fence lying across the tracks and had stopped the train in time. The fence was then removed from the tracks with help from the Assistant Loco Pilot. Though the incident caused a 9-minute delay to the train, no damage was reported.
However, the city police are investigating the case as possible sabotage, booking unknown persons under section 150(1) (maliciously wrecking or attempting to wreck a train), and 170(c) – tampering with railway property to cause obstruction to a running train, of The Railway Act.

2 railway contract staff held, Rs 3 lakh worth material recovered
Hubballi: Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested two contractual staff members and recovered material worth Rs 3.3 lakh involving railway coach amenity fittings, which was reported missing from Carriage and Wagon Store, Hubballi yard, on July 12. South Western Railway (SWR) Hubballi division said upon inventory verification, gravity cocks, soft flush valves, bib cocks, bib cocks (auto cut), bib cocks Vande Bharat, ball valve, and air vent water tank were recovered. A case was registered under section 3(a) of RP(UP) Act, 1966. A special investigation team led by RD Samudre, inspector, RPF, Hubballi, was formed under the supervision of Alok Kumar, sr divisional security commissioner. The RPF team cracked the case on Thursday with the arrest of two contractual staff members, one male and one female, employed as cleaning personnel in the railways. A portion of the stolen material was recovered from the female accused's residence, along with an auto-rickshaw used for transporting the stolen property. Part of the stolen items was already sold to a receiver, who is currently absconding. The male accused unlawfully entered the storehouse and committed the theft, a statement said. Both accused persons were produced before the JMFC, Hubballi. West Bengal: Cabinet okays job to families of Balasore train tragedy victims
The West Bengal Cabinet on Monday gave the go-ahead to a proposal to give a job each to the families of the 2023 Balasore train accident victims who hailed from the state, officials said. Thirteen of the 296 persons who died in the accident were residents of West Bengal. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the state secretariat. The Cabinet decided to give them home guards jobs in the police department. In one of the country's worst railway disasters, Chennai-bound Coromandel Express rammed into a stationary goods train at Bahanaga Bazar station in Balasore, Odisha, on the evening of June 2, 2023. Minutes later, the coaches derailed in the collision were hit from the opposite direction by the Yeshvantpur Express that was going towards Howrah. The Cabinet also announced to allocate 40 acres land to Titagarh Rail Systems Limited for extension of the existing facility to manufacture Vande Bharat train coaches. The land will be given to the rail coach factory on a lease of 99 years for Rs 126 crore. The plot is located adjacent to TRSL's current 34-acre plant in Uttarpara in Kotrung and Bhadreswar in the Hooghly district. The Cabinet decided to change the provision of widow and old age allowances. So far, the social welfare office was in charge of the approval of the allowances in the Kolkata Corporation. But from now, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation commissioner can approve the allowances. The administration has argued that the process will be faster, simpler and transparent under the new system. The beneficiaries will get quick allowances in this process, the state government claimed. Speaking at the meeting, the CM expressed concern over the harassment of Bengali-speaking people in other states. Stating that such injustice cannot be tolerated, she said peaceful protests need to be organised. A minister said, 'In the meeting, the CM asked ministers to take out with rallies in the districts to support Bengali migrant workers who were being humiliated in the other states. Minor boys placed stones on railway track at Valapattanam, say police
The police have confirmed that stones found on the railway track near Valapattanam bridge on Saturday evening, which briefly raised fears of an attempt to sabotage the Vande Bharat train, were placed by two 12-year-old students. The discovery was made as the train passed through the adjoining track. An investigation led by Valapattanam S.I. T.M. Vipin with support from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) traced the act to the two minors. The children and their parents were summoned, counselled on the seriousness of the offence and let off with a warning. The revelation comes even as a special police team is probing a more alarming incident involving a concrete slab found on the track near the Valapattanam station at 2 a.m. on Friday. The Kochuveli-Bhavnagar Express ran over the slab before the loco pilot found it. The investigation, supervised by Kannur ACP Pradeepan Kannipoyil and led by Valapattanam Principal SI T.M. Vipin and ASI Dileesh, faces hurdles due to the lack of CCTV footage from the vicinity. The location is frequented by drug users and migrant workers, the police said. Sabotage attempts Similar sabotage attempts had been reported in the past in neighbouring Pappinissery, where iron rods and stones were placed on tracks. Migrant workers were arrested in a few cases then. Authorities are concerned about the rising trend of teenagers engaging in risky behaviour near railway line. Incidents of schoolchildren throwing stones at trains have been reported frequently. Passengers have complained of stones being thrown from adjacent playgrounds. In 2022, six minors were arrested for placing stones between Trikkaripur and Payyannur stations.
