Mohali police arrest six drug peddlers, seize 263 gm heroin
The arrested individuals have been identified as Gagandeep Singh of Lakha Wala village (Ferozepur), Sandeep Kumar of Patel Nagar (Ferozepur), Dimple of Faridkot Road (Ferozepur), Jagjir Singh of Sena Saada village (Fazilka), Sinder Singh of Daladali village (Fazilka) and Jivan Singh.
SSP Hans added that the arrests were made as part of the 'War against drugs' campaign in the Kharar sub-division.
In the first case, Kharar city police station arrested accused Jagjir Singh and Sinder Singh after setting up a special blockade near Gurdwara Sahib, Sunny Enclave, close to the Green Market Chowk. The arrests were made after the police signalled a white Hyundai Xcent with a taxi number, being driven suspiciously by Jagjir Singh, to stop. The driver attempted to flee but was apprehended. The passenger was identified as Sinder Singh. A total of 100 gm heroin was recovered from their possession.
In the second case, Kharar city police, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a trio on a motorcycle near Mamupur bridge. Upon checking, the accused Gagandeep Singh, Sandeep Kumar and Dimple were found possessing 139 gm of heroin.
In the third incident, accused Jivan Singh was arrested near Phase 8 after trying to suspiciously walk away upon seeing the police. A search of his belongings led to the recovery of 24.9 gm heroin.
All six accused were produced before the respective courts and remanded to police custody for further investigation.
SSP Hans said the Mohali Police are committed to taking strict action against drug peddlers and anti-social elements, adding that the drive will continue with full force in the district.
Opium smuggling network uncovered, three apprehended
The anti-narcotics cell arrested three key members of a vast opium smuggling operation.
The investigation began when the team, acting on intelligence, apprehended Punjab-based drug supplier Sunil Kumar with opium in Chandimandir on May 29. Sunil was immediately taken into two-day police remand to identify his source.
During interrogation, Sunil revealed the supplier to be Hariom, a resident of Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. Following this lead, Hariom was arrested from his home district on May 31. The questioning further led to the arrest of Deepak from Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, who was Hariom's source for the opium, on the same day.
Both Hariom and Deepak were presented in court on Sunday and remanded to four days of police custody. They face charges under Sections 18 and 29 of the NDPS Act at the Chandimandir police station.
Police are intensifying interrogations to dismantle the entire drug supply chain and identify all individuals involved, including the principal drug kingpins.

He assured Dr Gupta that he could get him an entry into a high-profile reality TV game show, hosted by a Bollywood actor. Karan allegedly told Dr Gupta that the process would involve expenses of around Rs 50 lakh. Eager to participate in the show, Dr Gupta agreed. Karan even took him to an office where officials explained the formal application process for the show. However, Karan demanded Rs 10 lakh in advance to "facilitate" the selection process. Dr Gupta paid the amount, but his name did not appear in the list of selected participants that season. Upon inquiry, Karan assured him that his selection was confirmed for the next season. However, when the next season also passed without any progress, Dr Gupta tried to contact the show organisers directly and discovered that there is no such practice of accepting money for entry into the show. When Dr Gupta demanded his money back, Karan initially gave excuses and later outright refused to return the amount. Realising he was duped, Dr Gupta lodged a complaint with Chunabhatti police. After preliminary investigation, the police registered a case of cheating, cops said.

Removal of dangling tanker to take 3 days
Vadodara: The final countdown for the removal of the tanker — precariously perched on the broken slab of the Gambhira bridge over the Mahi river — began on Monday morning, 27 days after the bridge collapsed, killing 21 people. Large numbers of police personnel were deployed on roads leading to the bridge on Monday. The operation to salvage the tanker using high-pressure air bags was launched on Friday, after a 50-member team from Porbandar-based Marine Emergency Response Centre (MERC) arrived in Anand district. Anand collector Praveen Chaudhary said that the operation is expected to be completed in two or three days. "The agency that has the expertise for this operation has set up its field headquarters 900 metres away from the bridge, from where the operation will be managed. The agency will use sophisticated techniques and specialized equipment to extricate the truck," he said, adding that CCTV cameras have also been placed at several locations to monitor movements at the site. All human movement on the stretch has been halted. "The truck will be safely removed using equipment such as high-pressure pneumatic bags, a hydraulic strand jack and engineered cantilevers. The operation will be carried out to ensure no harm comes to people or the bridge structure," Chaudhary said, adding that ample precautions are being taken as the structural stability of the bridge is compromised. On Monday, marine air bags (pneumatic roller bags, sometimes called balloons), which are typically used to launch ships and lift vessels in shallow water, were placed near the tanker. These bags will be inflated under the truck to lift it from its current position, which is tilted towards the river 50 feet below. The cantilevers will be used to align the vehicle with the bridge, and a strand jack will be used to pull the truck out.

Hisar youth held with 1 kg heroin in Fatehabad
Hisar: In a major crackdown on inter-state drug trafficking, a joint team of the CIA Staff Ratia and AVT Staff of Fatehabad district arrested a youth from Hisar with 1.06 kg of heroin, valued at around Rs 5 crore in the international market. The accused has been identified as Gurmeet Singh alias Guggi, a resident of Peerawali village, Hisar district. Fatehabad superintendent of police (SP) Siddhant Jain said a police team, led by CIA Ratia in-charge sub-inspector Bedpal, was patrolling the Badopal area when they received a tip-off. The information indicated that Gurmeet Singh was transporting a large quantity of heroin on a motorcycle, en route from Punjab through Ratia and Badopal, with the intention of selling it in Peerawali. Acting swiftly on the input, the police set up a blockade at Dhangar Bridge and began inspecting vehicles. After some time, the accused was spotted approaching from the Ratia side. Upon seeing the police, he attempted to flee by taking a U-turn, but the police team immediately intercepted him using a govt vehicle and apprehended him.
