Coach rejects Harley Reid claim as Hinkley wows with response to Jack Ginnivan act
Reid racked up 20 disposals and six clearances in the first half, but was restricted to just four possessions in the third quarter as the Eagles imploded. West Coast trailed by just nine points at the half before Richmond piled on eight goals to one in a devastating third-quarter blitz to run away with the 16.9 (105) to 8.8 (56) win.
Richmond coach Adem Yze admitted he felt "sorry for the kid" after 20-year-old Reid was given a hard tag by Jack Ross. The No.1 draft pick has now become the No.1 target for opposition taggers.
West Coast are now 1-17 on the year and all-but certain to collect a second wooden spoon in three seasons. Reid has only experienced six wins in 38 games so far in his young career, but McQualter doesn't think it will dissuade him from sticking around.

Reid is from country Victoria, and speculation is rife he'll look to move home when his deal with the Eagles expires. "I think if you see Harley and the way he's invested, he's absolutely in and he's a competitor," McQualter said after the game.
"He's wanting to do everything to get this club out of this position. Nobody likes losing, I appreciate that part of it. We're all sick to death of it to be honest. But we're the only people that can make a change. It's people inside the four walls that can get us out of here and we have to do it together."
Ken Hinkley praised for response to Jack Ginnivan 'payback'
Meanwhile, Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley has been praised for his "brilliant" response to a goal celebration from Jack Ginnivan that was directed at him during Hawthorn's win on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks got some payback on Port with a 38-point in Launceston after the Power knocked them out of the finals last year.
After that spiteful match last season, Hinkley copped a $20,000 fine for taunting Ginnivan by telling him "you're not flying" - a reference to the fact the Hawks wouldn't be travelling to Sydney for the next match. On Saturday, Ginnivan kicked an early goal before putting his arms out like a plane in a direct reference to Hinkley's taunt.
The Port coached cracked a smile in the box and saw the funny side, and won praise for his post-match comments about it. "Payback is deserved," Hinkley admitted. "I have no problems with it and I am OK with it, I think it's good for the game, the theatre of the game.
"And good on Jack ... and Hawthorn themselves as a club. I won't be one that sits here and does anything but acknowledge that it was my turn today."
Hawthorn legend Dermott Brereton said on Fox Footy: 'Well done, Kenny. He's a good man. He's taken that in great spirits. Sometimes you've just got to lick your wounds, don't you? I'm applauding Ken for having a giggle at that. That's like Kenny's just stood up and said 'touché'.'
Fellow commentator Dwayne Russell added: 'Brilliant sportsmanship, really, from Kenny there, as the fans (with) a bit of pantomime booing as well when Kenny was shown on the big screen. Ken (is) enjoying it, really, the pantomime villain."

Oscar Piastri and the country's men's and women's 4x100m swimming relay teams have produced a stunning night for Australia on the global stage. And it could get even better, with Alex de Minaur in the final of the Citi Open in Washington. Piastri was triumphant in a rain-soaked Belgian Grand Prix, while Australia won gold in both relays at the swimming world championships. Piastri extended his lead in the F1 world championship to 16 points after overtaking pole-sitter and teammate Lando Norris to win. The race eventually started after four laps behind the safety car following a delay of nearly an hour and a half due to rain and poor visibility at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. After an initial formation lap behind the safety car, a red flag was shown, and the cars were brought back into the pit lane and the starting procedure halted. Olivia Wunsch produced a stunning late comeback to fire Australia to an upset victory over the vaunted US in the women's event. And then it was Kyle Chalmers who reeled in a sizeable lead from the Americans in the men's event. Chalmers produced a stunning anchor swim as the Aussie quartet including Flynn Southam, Kai Taylor and Maximillian Giuliani posting a world championship-record time of 3:08.97 to defeat Italy (3:09.58) and the fading US (3:09.64). "I've kind of lost my voice already from cheering so hard," Southam said. Jack Conan reveals video from Katie Taylor inspired Lions before second Test win
Jack Conan has revealed that an inspiring video from Irish boxing great Katie Taylor helped the British and Irish Lions find the resilience needed to close out their series against Australia. Taylor, an Olympic gold medal winner and current undisputed world super lightweight champion, sent the good luck message to Andy Farrell's squad in the build-up to Saturday's second Test at Melbourne Cricket Club. The 39-year-old's words on the ability to dig deep turned out to be prophetic as the Lions emerged 29-26 winners after fighting back from an 18-point deficit. 'The video was unbelievably poignant and powerful. It spoke about being prepared to win with skill, but also being ready to win by will,' said Ireland number eight Conan, who like Taylor hails from Bray in County Wicklow. 'That was something that was massively summed up in the game because we were not at our best at all. 'It's huge because she comes from the town I'm from. I'm incredibly proud of where I come from and I know Katie is as well. 'She's gone on to achieve incredible feats in the boxing world. To be such a superstar, incredibly humble and driven is something that we leant on as well because we knew that Australia are a hugely proud nation and they showed it in spades. 'Everyone loved it, even the English and the Scottish boys and the Welsh boy – it resonated with everyone. It was unbelievably poignant, it was class. It really hit home for us.' It took a beautifully-taken try by Hugo Keenan with 51 seconds remaining to separate the rivals in one of the greatest Lions matches ever played. Remarkably, Keenan's touchdown was the first time they led in the match. Conan admits that victory tastes all the sweeter for having been taken to the wire as Australia raised their game to a whole new level a week after starting the series with a whimper in Brisbane. 'We were not at our best by any measure, but physically the lads dug in unbelievably well,' he said. 'It was disappointing how we played, but we played for 80 minutes. Hugo getting over the line in the last minute was just unbelievable. 'It wasn't my best game. A lot of us weren't at the races at all, but we stuck in there. You can't fault the effort. I thought the defensive sets we put in, just whacking people and just staying in there, was unbelievable. 'It's something that will go down in history. They won't be writing the history books about how s*** we were, but they'll say that we won and that's all that matters. 'Everyone's over the moon. To be part of a Lions winning series team is incredibly special. The celebrations in the changing room wouldn't have been the same if we'd won by 20.'
