Dope Net! Wrestler Reetika Hooda waives ‘B' sample rights
New Delhi:
Paris Olympian
Reetika Hooda
has waived her right to 'B' sample testing after returning positive for banned substances. This means the former junior world champion wrestler now faces the prospect of a four-year ban by the National Anti-Doping Agency (Nada) for her first time doping offence.
She also runs the risk of forfeiting her medals won since March 15, 2025 – the date her sample was collected by Nada's dope control officers.
During the months leading to her provisional suspension by Nada, after receiving a notification of adverse analytical finding (AAF) on July 1, the 22-year-old Reetika, who competes in the women's 76kg category, won silver at the Asian wrestling championships (March 25 to 30) in Amman, Jordan, and gold medals at the Ulaanbaatar Ranking Series (May 29 to June 1) in Mongolia and the World Military Championships (June 22 to 29) in Warendorf, Germany.

Failure to prove her innocence before Nada's anti-doping disciplinary panel (ADDP) would result in all her competition results that came after her sample collection being declared as 'null and void'. The two-time Asian medallist has already been serving a oneyear suspension since July 7, 2025, imposed by the United World Wrestling (UWW) after the wrestler's sample showed higher testosterone levels and presence of prohibited substances in testing.

The UWW's suspension will last until July 7, 2026.
A copy of Reetika's AAF obtained by TOI revealed that her 'A' sample was tested at both the National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL) here and the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada)-accredited Cologne facility in Rome for 'testosterone and testosterone metabolite'. NDTL had sought a second opinion on Reetika's sample and the Cologne lab confirmed the findings in line with the Indian facility.

Her sample returned positive for S1.1 anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) and was consistent with exogenous origin for '5a-androstane-3a, 17b-diol (SaAdiol) and 5b-androstane-3a, 17b-diol (5bAdiol)'. The wrestler hadn't applied for the 'Therapeutic Use Exemption' (TUE) as per the AAF. Following her failure to appear for the 'B' sample testing, she has been served a formal notice of charge by Nada.
'If you waive the right to have the 'B' sample analysed, the anti-doping rule violation (ADRV) will be confirmed.
In such an event and, according to article 10.2, the period of ineligibility imposed for the violation of article 2.1 and 2.2 for a non-specified substance, shall be four years. All results obtained by you from (and including) the date of sample collection (i.e. 15.03.2025) until the date of provisional suspension shall also be disqualified with all resulting consequences, unless fairness requires otherwise,' the Nada notice read.
Reetika was tested during a selection trial for the Asian wrestling championships at the Indira Gandhi (IG) stadium here on March 15. The wrestler from Haryana's Rohtak was considered one of the strongest medal contenders for India at the wrestling Worlds scheduled to be held in Croatia in September.

Ajaraie hat-trick in NEUFC's opening win
Coach Juan Pedro Benali on the sidelines and owner John Abraham in the stands could not have been happier as NorthEast United FC began their Durand Cup title defence in style with star striker Alaaeddine Ajaraie scoring a hat-trick in a 3-1 win over Malaysian Armed Forces FT at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong on Saturday. It was the defending champions' game from the start as Ajaraie and Jithin MS kept pushing the visiting defenders' limits upfront. And it didn't take very long for them to cave in as last season's ISL top scorer pounced on a long cross to beat the goalkeeper with a perfect finish in the 23rd minute. Six minutes later, it was Jithin, who dribbled past three defenders inside the box but selflessly gave the final pass to his Moroccan strike partner to double his and the team's lead. Benali tested his bench strength and brought in the likes of new recruit and I-League top scorer Lalrinzuala Lalbiaknia to replace Jithin and link up with Ajaraie. The high press paid dividends in the 70th minute when Ajaraie completed his hat-trick with another finish to a rebound inside the box. The Malaysian side earned a consolation goal towards the end of the game when Mohd Amir Faizal lofted a spectacular long effort that dipped into the goal for their first goal of the tournament. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Luxury Awaits at Paras Floret | Paras Sector 59 Gurgaon Paras The Florett Book Now Undo 1 Ladakh script history in draw: 1 Ladakh FC made a dream start to their national football journey by holding Nepal's seasoned side, Tribhuvan Army, to a 1-1 draw in their first match of the Durand Cup campaign in Jamshedpur on Saturday. In the 'Himalayan derby', the newcomers from Ladakh took advantage of a defensive mistake from the Nepalese team to script history through defender Siju, who headed in the first goal by a Ladakhi player in the tournament, before it was Tribhuvan Army's turn to pounce on a mistake by the 1 Ladakh goalkeeper and back four as Nirajan Dhami equalised with a calm finish just before the break. After the change of ends, the hot and humid conditions began taking a toll on the players as cramps, injuries and drink breaks slowed the pace of the match. HC stays govt notice on creation of STF police stns
1 2 Kolkata: A division bench of Calcutta High Court's Jalpaiguri circuit bench has stayed a Bengal govt gazette notification announcing the creation of two Special Task Force (STF) police stations and tying them up with two existing courts in two parts of the state. The state had set up the designated police stations — one in north Bengal and the other in south — to register FIRs and investigate offences under special acts like Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, Arms Act, Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and Prevention of Money Laundering Act. "The entire scheme of BNSS has been sought to be frustrated, prima facie" by such a notification, said a bench of justices Sabyasachi Bhattacharyya and Uday Kumar, ordering an interim stay on it till Sept 15 or until further orders. You Can Also Check: Kolkata AQI | Weather in Kolkata | Bank Holidays in Kolkata | Public Holidays in Kolkata "Access to justice is not a fancy right. If the notification is to be given force, then a person living in a remote area will never report an offence," Justice Bhattacharyya observed. The bench, however, held that FIRs already registered with the two STF police stations and the investigation thereafter would not be affected by the stay order but their fate shall depend on the outcome of the writ petition. The state, by a notification on Jan 31, created one STF police station at the STF HQ in Salt Lake for all south Bengal districts from Murshidabad to East Midnapore, other than areas under the jurisdiction of Kolkata Police, and the other at Ambikanagar in Siliguri for all north Bengal districts. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You To Read in 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo By a subsequent notification on May 16, the govt tied up these police stations with the ACJM court, Bidhannagar and ACJM court, Siliguri. The additional advocate general pleaded that the executive action was well within the powers of state govt. However, the bench underscored the distinction between "local jurisdiction" of courts and determination of "local area" of police stations under BNSS. Having referred to the distinction, the bench held that the state had "picked and chosen" the local limits of police stations "at its whims". Dalit activist faces judicial custody with two associates
Hisar: Dalit rights activist and advocate Rajat Kalsan and his two companions, Deepak Saini and Pravesh, have been remanded in 14-day judicial custody. The three of them appeared in court on Saturday after being arrested for allegedly assaulting a police team in Hisar's auto market. They were allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time. City police apprehended his associates during his one-day police remand. A bail application for all the three accused was submitted during court proceedings. The court sought a response from the police and scheduled the bail hearing for Monday. On Thursday, Narnaund police arrested advocate Kalsan in a separate case registered about six months ago, involving a social media post allegedly supporting the accused in the murder of a woman at Budana village. Kalsan was granted bail by a Hansi court in the case. However, soon after his release, Hisar Police arrested him in the latest case related to the alleged assault. The FIR against advocate Kalsan was registered at the City Police Station on the complaint of Hansi special staff sub-inspector Ravikant under various non-bailable charges. According to the complaint, Kalsan was named in an FIR lodged at Narnaund Police Station on July 29. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Access all TV channels anywhere, anytime Techno Mag Learn More Undo On the night of July 30, at around 10PM, police found three individuals allegedly consuming alcohol inside a parked car in the old auto market, with Kalsan in the driver's seat. When police served him a notice to join the investigation, an altercation ensued. Kalsan and his companions allegedly exited the vehicle and attacked the officers, injuring a sub-inspector. Advocate Kalsan has been a prominent figure in Dalit activism, recently joining protests after the death of a youth named Ganesh in a DJ-related dispute in Hisar. He has also advocated for justice in the Bhatla case in Hansi and was a key legal representative in the high-profile 2010 Mirchpur Dalit atrocity case in the Narnaund region. Complaint submitted to NHRC Hisar-based advocate and social worker Bajrang Indal has submitted a joint complaint to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the National Commission for Scheduled Castes regarding the manner of Rajat Kalsan's arrest. In his memorandum, Indal alleged that Kalsan—known for his advocacy in landmark Dalit rights cases like the Mirchpur massacre—was arrested on July 29 by police in plain clothes. He described it as a "kidnapping-style" operation. He also claimed that Kalsan was held in police custody without access to legal counsel or family visits and was not provided a copy of the FIR. The complaint went on to accuse the police of deliberately taking and circulating humiliating photos of Kalsan in a "criminal posture," which Indal said, was a violation of human dignity and an affront to both the Dalit community and the legal profession. He has called for a judicial inquiry into the episode. MSID:: 123062103 413 | Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Friendship Day wishes , messages and quotes !
