Nawaz-Imran meeting pure fiction: Dar

Listen to article Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Saturday dismissed reports of a meeting between PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif and PTI founder Imran Khan, terming them baseless and part of a 'sponsored narrative' aimed at sowing political confusion. Speaking at the annual 982nd ceremonial bathing (ghusl) of the shrine of Hazrat Ali Hujwiri (Data Darbar) in Lahore, the DPM said such sponsored reports are propagated deliberately. 'These are all speculations. It must be someone's wish list as we don't want to meet anyone.' The foreign minister said the current government was initially formed with the critical support from the PPP. 'When we started, our numbers were incomplete without them. Now that we have a simple majority, there's no difficulty, but we will continue cooperating with the PPP even more than before,' he said. He also ruled out any rift within the ruling coalition, asserting that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had made no demands and remained a committed ally. 'The PPP did not demand any portfolio. They are our coalition partners and they supported us at hard time and companions are not left after the passage of trials and tribulations,' 'In difficult times, you don't abandon your partners,' he said, stressing that all coalition parties are working together on a shared economic agenda. Dar said the law will take its course and the government wants to work in synergy with all parties. He said the government had no war ambitions or hostility-driven agendas. 'We desire peace and stability in the region,' he said, adding that Iran had acknowledged Pakistan as a 'true friend', with chants of 'Shukria Pakistan' also echoing in their parliament. Highlighting the country's string of recent achievements, Dar noted that the country had been elected as a member of the UN Security Council and had signed a $2 billion agreement with Azerbaijan. 'Inflation has eased, interest rates have dropped from 22% to 11%, and per capita income will now rise,' he claimed. Dar accused Israel of engaging in terrorism and recalled how even at the funeral of Iran's military chief, slogans were raised in support of Pakistan. 'Iran has acknowledged Pakistan as a sincere friend. We do not seek war; our agenda is peace and regional security.' The deputy PM praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's relentless efforts, saying they had brought 'immense respect' to Pakistan on the global stage. He reminisced about the original inauguration of Data Darbar's development by Nawaz Sharif on May 31, 1999, and noted that the shrine's expansion was now near completion. On Pakistan-India ties, Dar said that the country responded firmly when provoked. 'During the India-Pakistan conflict, all political parties stood united. India started the war, but we brought down six of their aircraft and responded to 80 drone attacks within 36 hours. The ceasefire along the LoC is still intact,' he said. Commenting on the PDM's formation, Dar noted that Pakistan was on the brink of default at the time. 'If there had been no change, Pakistan would have defaulted. We took bold risks to steer the country back. Our foreign reserves have now reached $14 billion,' he revealed. Dar also warned of ongoing threats: 'Risk is always present; we must remain alert. Thirty militants were sent to hell. On the diplomatic front, talks with Saudi Arabia began seven to eight months ago and will resume on June 24. The general visa process has improved, and we request that Blue Passports be extended to include diplomats, MNAs, MPAs and senior bureaucrats.' Speaking on local developments, Dar said renovation work at Data Darbar had already begun. 'The dome has been elevated, and umbrellas like those in Masjid-e-Nabawi will be installed in the mosque. We hope all work will be completed before the next ceremonial bathing.' The ghusl ceremony was attended by Provincial Auqaf Minister Shafi Hussain and a large number of devotees.

Bilawal terms July 5 'darkest day'

Pakistan People's Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has termed July 5 as the darkest day of the country's history. In a message on July 5 - the day when the government of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was toppled by military dictator — the ppp chairman said it was the day when the democratic journey was derailed through tyranny. He said Quaid-e-Awam Zulfikar Ali Bhutto became the voice of voiceless people and gave the poor dignity. The purpose of July 5 tragedy was to stifle the voice of the people and usurped the powers. Despite the tragedy and persecution, the dream of the Quaid-e-Awan remained alive. The dictatorship, which was imposed after July 5, started a series of terrorism and destruction of democratic institutions, highlighted Bilawal. The PPP chairman reiterated to continue the struggle for realization of Benazir Bhutto and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's dream. The vision envisages the people of Pakistan powerful and the Constitution supreme. He said the PPP never compromised on principles despite its leaders and workers languished in jails. He expressed his resolve to continue the struggle until Pakistan becomes democratic, peaceful and prosperous country.

Pakistanis' extradition to India: PTI denounces Bilawal's stance

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday denounced Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's shockingly appeasing, submissive and apologetic stance, particularly his offer to extradite Pakistani citizens to India under the guise of a so-called confidence-building measure (CBM) — a country that remained actively engaged in state-sponsored terrorism, espionage and subversive activities against Pakistan. Speaking at a presser, PTI spokesman Sheikh Waqas Akram stated that Bilawal was an 'immature political child', stating that such irresponsible, ill-advised and sweeping statements not only damage Pakistan's national security narrative but also humiliate the country on international platforms. He lamented that the surrogates imposed upon the nation through electoral fraud, had brought Pakistan to its knees, which completely politically destabilized and economically devastated – solely to cling to power. 'We fail to understand why Bilawal is so keen on appeasing India,' he asked. He stated that Bilawal was proving time and again that he lacked political wisdom, vision and understanding of regional geopolitics. Instead of holding India accountable for its continued aggression, water terrorism and cross-border interference, Bilawal was proposing CBMs that compromise Pakistan's sovereignty and integrity, he said. Bilawal urges UN to press India for comprehensive dialogue He emphasised that it was imperative to ask Bilawal on whose behalf he issued such a statement and what he intended to achieve by offering such concessions to a belligerent India by humiliating Pakistan on an international stage. He further criticised Bilawal's flip-flop from threatening India with war to begging for peace, saying PPP chairman became a symbol of inconsistency, confusion and contradiction in Pakistan's foreign policy discourse. PPP was founded by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on the legacy of Kashmir, but today, Bilawal is betraying that legacy by pursuing political gains at the expense of Kashmiri blood, he stated. He said that leaders were born, not made through makeup and forced media appearances. 'If PPP's intelligentsia truly cares about Bilawal, they should let him contest local body elections first and appear on regional TV channels instead of being pushed on international media, where he only embarrasses Pakistan,' PTI CIS stated. He asserted that Bilawal was an 'immature political child' who would lead PPP to complete elimination, advising that if the party wanted to survive, he must step aside and hand over chairmanship to Aseefa Bhutto, who, at the very least, showed more promise and sense than him. He said that those encouraging him to go global were not his friends – they were his political undertakers, because pushing him into the limelight without proper grooming, only to expose his incompetence. Shifting focus to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he cautioned against any covert or overt attempts to destabilise the democratically elected PTI government in the province. He vowed that PTI would resist any such move tooth and nail, as the people of KP have given their mandate to PTI, and they would not allow surrogate rulers to be imposed in KP like elsewhere in the country. He said the people of KP have already suffered enough due to military operations, exploitation of resources and broken promises and PTI would not allow any such misadventure again in the region. He reminded the centre of the disastrous consequences of past military operations in tribal areas, which brought nothing but destruction, displacement and resentment among tribal people. Therefore, he pressed that instead of repeating failed strategies, the government must prioritise development, infrastructure, education and economic uplift in neglected region. He emphasised that the solution to Pakistan's internal challenges lied in respecting democracy, empowering provinces and investing in neglected regions, not through coercion and brute force. Turning to the government's economic mismanagement and flawed foreign investment strategy, he pointed out that while the government loudly trumpeted its claims of attracting foreign investment through the much-hyped SIFC, the ground reality tells a different story. Waqas stated that multinational companies were shutting down their operations due to flawed, shortsighted and self-serving policies — the closure of Microsoft's office in Pakistan speaks volumes in this regard. Expressing surprise over government double-standard, he said that Pakistan's trade with India surged quietly, yet trade with brotherly neighbour Afghanistan remained suspended, which was not only unjust but also economically suicidal. Waqas demanded that trade with Afghanistan be immediately resumed to benefit the people of Pakistan and the bordering tribal areas, adding that the imposed regime's anti-people policies were destroying livelihoods of the people. Akram vowed that the party would fight till the last ball against the current authoritarian regime. He stated that PTI Patron-in-chief Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi and other PTI leadership were facing politically motivated and fabricated cases, but PTI would not back down. Waqas made it clear that they would not rest until release unlawfully incarcerated PTI founder and other leaders, establish the rule of law, constitutional supremacy, and true democracy in Pakistan.
