FIR registered against 2 labour department officials on corruption charges in Gurgaon

Gurgaon: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered an FIR against two officials of the labour department in the city under the Prevention of Corruption Act after being accused of demanding a bribe of Rs 5,000 and accepting Rs 3,500 in cash for approving a business registration application. According to ACB, A Quarian Education Abroad — a private company — applied five times through the official labour department portal for registration of a commercial establishment. Each application was allegedly rejected by labour inspector Manoj Kumar without valid justification. "Despite submitting all required documents and paying the full govt fee, the application was repeatedly turned down, with arbitrary objections raised and no time provided to address them," said Naveen Kumar, the complainant, in his complaint filed in Dec 2023. When will the Hockey Canada sexual assault verdict be delivered? Judge sets crucial July 24 date

Justice Maria Carroccia is set to deliver the verdict on July 24 in the Hockey Canada sexual assault trial (Getty Images) After nearly two months of intense testimony, legal arguments, and emotional revelations, the high-profile Hockey Canada sexual assault trial has officially concluded. Now, the spotlight shifts to July 24, the day Justice Maria Carroccia will deliver her long-awaited verdict that could reshape the lives and reputations of five NHL players and reignite national discussions around consent, power, and accountability in Canadian sports culture. Judge to deliver verdict in landmark case involving five NHL players on July 24 Michael McLeod, Carter Hart, Alex Formenton, Dillon Dubé, and Cal Foote each face charges of sexual assault stemming from a 2018 incident in a London, Ontario hotel room. The allegations, made by a woman referred to as E.M., claim the men engaged in non-consensual group sexual activity during a Hockey Canada event celebrating their World Junior Championship win. In her closing remarks, Crown attorney Meaghan Cunningham emphasized that E.M.'s compliance during the alleged acts should not be mistaken for consent. 'She's simply agreeing with him when he's making it clear what he wants her to say,' Cunningham said, referencing a video McLeod filmed where he allegedly coached E.M. into saying the sex was consensual. Cunningham and co-counsel Heather Donkers argued the defendants showed 'recklessness' and 'willful blindness,' particularly given E.M.'s by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 수완동 주민 대상 혜택! 청력 고민 있으시다면 무료로 보청기 체험 가능합니다 히어닷컴 Undo intoxication and vulnerability. 'Literally, any one of those men could have stood up and said, this isn't right. And no one did,' E.M. said in court. 'They didn't want to think about if I was actually OK or if I was actually consenting.' Defense attorneys for each player countered forcefully, attacking the Crown's legal reasoning and casting doubt on E.M.'s credibility. They argue she was the initiator of the group sex and later regretted the encounter, calling the case a result of 'tailored testimony' and a desire for civil compensation. After discharging two juries earlier in the proceedings, she now holds sole responsibility for the verdict. 11 old cases against ‘Mango', 4 of molestation

1 2 Kolkata: Permanent presence of Monojit Mishra aka Mango on the campus and his stares were undoubtedly unsettling, claimed girls at the law college, where Mishra allegedly raped a girl, while two of his aides filmed the act. Police on Monday confirmed 11 cases had been registered against Monojit at various police stations, four being molestation charges. Second-year student Vaagmi Trivedi recounted that Monojit behaved inappropriately with girls when they had gone on a picnic in Oct 2023. "We were in our first year back ten. There was a guest house with three rooms—one for girls, one for boys and one for Monojit. After 3 pm, he started drinking with his friends. He sent one of his lackeys to call me to the room, saying I would have to sing for them. Others had already cautioned me, and I did not go," said Trivedi. Another student claimed that Monojit molested another first-year girl in a room, where she was alone, talking to someone. "He pounced on her and touched her inappropriately. Later, Monojit and his gang threatened her into silence," the student said. Shocked, we told him to sit in front. He did go but asked my senior to sit on his lap," she said. Students said fear kept them from complaining. A fifth-year student, Rokeya Dasgupta, said Monojit's gaze made women uncomfortable. "We stopped coming to college for this," she said. Echoing her, a batchmate said, "Just 10 days ago, I was waiting near the union room and the way Monojit stared at me from inside, it was disturbing." This fear factor had been such that a fourth-year student from Murshidabad said he had not been attending college since Sept last year after Monojit assaulted him for not including him in a Teachers' Day event. The boy was attacked near Lake Mall and was found injured near Tollygunge PS, leading to months of treatment and relocation to New Town. Students said co-accused Pramit Mukhopadhyay was into substance abuse and displayed inappropriate images of women. Trivedi said they had warned Zaib Ahmed against Monojit's influence.
