After nearly two months of intense testimony, legal arguments, and emotional revelations, the high-profile Hockey Canada sexual assault trial has officially concluded. Now, the spotlight shifts to July 24, the day Justice Maria Carroccia will deliver her long-awaited verdict that could reshape the lives and reputations of five NHL players and reignite national discussions around consent, power, and accountability in Canadian sports culture.

Michael McLeod, Carter Hart, Alex Formenton, Dillon Dubé, and Cal Foote each face charges of sexual assault stemming from a 2018 incident in a London, Ontario hotel room. The allegations, made by a woman referred to as E.M., claim the men engaged in non-consensual group sexual activity during a Hockey Canada event celebrating their World Junior Championship win.
In her closing remarks, Crown attorney Meaghan Cunningham emphasized that E.M.'s
compliance during the alleged acts should not be mistaken for consent. 'She's simply agreeing with him when he's making it clear what he wants her to say,' Cunningham said, referencing a video McLeod filmed where he allegedly coached E.M. into saying the sex was consensual.
Cunningham and co-counsel Heather Donkers argued the defendants showed 'recklessness' and 'willful blindness,' particularly given E.M.'s

intoxication and vulnerability. 'Literally, any one of those men could have stood up and said, this isn't right. And no one did,' E.M. said in court. 'They didn't want to think about if I was actually OK or if I was actually consenting.'
Defense attorneys for each player countered forcefully, attacking the Crown's legal reasoning and casting doubt on E.M.'s credibility. They argue she was the initiator of the group sex and later regretted the encounter, calling the case a result of 'tailored testimony' and a desire for civil compensation.

Still, it will be Justice Carroccia who makes the final call. After discharging two juries earlier in the proceedings, she now holds sole responsibility for the verdict. Her decision, set to be released in written form on July 24, could have wide-reaching implications—not just for the players, but for the entire hockey establishment.

'Kissed LeBron's a**': Tom Brady called a fraud by Skip Bayless for praising 'insecure' LeBron James

Skip Bayless has ignited controversy by labeling Tom Brady a "sellout" for praising LeBron James (Getty Images) Skip Bayless is back in the headlines, and this time he's going after an unlikely target—his longtime hero Tom Brady. Known for his unwavering support of the NFL legend, Bayless shocked fans by labeling Brady a 'sellout' after the quarterback publicly praised LeBron James as the 'greatest ever' during a recent appearance on The Shop. Skip Bayless says Tom Brady betrayed true greatness by crowning LeBron James the GOAT Tom Brady, appearing alongside LeBron James at Fanatics Fest in New York City, spoke glowingly of the Los Angeles Lakers star, stating: 'He's always done things the right way. He's always risen above the noise and the BS and continued to deliver. So you're witnessing the greatest ever, and I hope you guys appreciate that.' But that praise didn't sit well with Bayless, who took to his own YouTube show to unleash a scathing response—not just toward LeBron, but surprisingly, toward Brady as well. Bayless accused Brady of pandering to LeBron's massive global fanbase for financial and branding purposes, especially now that both athletes are navigating their post-career paths. 'Tom Brady will say and do whatever is required to polish his good guy image,' Bayless fumed. 'He even kissed LeBron's a** in front of LeBron because he knows how many billions of followers, how many fans LeBron has.' Known for championing Michael Jordan in the GOAT debate, Bayless didn't hold back his disdain for LeBron's legacy talk either. 'LeBron James just can't help himself,' he said. 'He just can't hide his runaway insecurity… knowing deep, deep down that he will never ever be seen as the greatest basketball player ever, by those who really know the game.' Kyrie Did Something LeBron NEVER Does! Stay Away From Harden! Caitlin Clark Coverage 'Inhumane'?! Since Undisputed was canceled following Shannon Sharpe's departure in 2023, Bayless has seemingly become even more unfiltered. With no major network to answer to, he's taken his hot takes to YouTube—turning his critical eye not only on LeBron, but now Brady too. Bayless's harsh comments signal a major shift in sports media narratives, with fans and analysts alike surprised to see the veteran commentator turn on Brady after years of loyal praise. 'We judge women very harshly': Jane Macdougall exposes lasting damage from fake NHL affair rumor with Kirk McLean

Jane Macdougall exposes lasting damage from fake NHL affair rumor with Kirk McLean (Image via Getty) A rumor that started nearly 30 years ago in the hockey world still follows one woman today. Many fans of the Vancouver Canucks remember the heartbreaking 1994 Stanley Cup Final loss. But what happened the next year changed more than just the team's record. A false story spread around a player's personal life and it stuck to someone who wasn't even involved at the time. Jane Macdougall reveals how a hockey rumour followed her for decades In 1995, after the Vancouver Canucks were eliminated from playoff contention, fans were looking for someone to blame. A false rumour began spreading that defenseman Jeff Brown had an affair with Kirk McLean's wife. This was said to be the reason Brown was suddenly traded in the middle of the season. Jane Macdougall, a Canadian writer and broadcaster, was not even part of McLean's life during that time. The story, however, somehow attached itself to her years later. She and McLean got married in 1998, after he had already divorced his first wife, Lesley Shaddock. Jane spoke about the experience in 2024 on CBC Radio's Storylines, explaining how this rumor shaped her life for years. 'In some people's minds, I wasn't just a homewrecker. I was a franchise wrecker,' she said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Lesley Shaddock and Jeff Brown both denied the story. Jeff Brown also said he barely knew McLean's wives and believed his trade was because of issues with coach Rick Ley. Jeff Brown Kirk McLean and Jane Macdougall speak on the lasting harm After the 1994 Game 7 loss to the New York Rangers, fans expected the Canucks to return stronger in 1995. But when the team struggled, people looked for reasons. The rumor, which spread through word of mouth and later on internet forums like Reddit, gave fans a story, one that wasn't true but easy to believe. Macdougall says she hears comments even now. 'I had inherited the rumor,' she said. 'It's like a demon. It just needs a host.' Her kids were bullied, strangers whispered, and even co-workers brought it up. Campus rapists used inhaler to revive woman, prolong assault

KOLKATA: Ex-Trinamool Chhatra Parishad office-bearer Monojit Mishra and his two alleged accomplices in the campus gang-rape of a 24-year-old law student used an inhaler to revive the woman when she appeared to lose consciousness so that they could continue the assault, police said during a court hearing Tuesday to illustrate what the prosecution termed their "intent and desperation". "When the girl became breathless (the survivor mentions in her complaint that she had a panic attack), she was provided the inhaler - not to revive her but to ensure she regained consciousness and they could assault her sexually," public prosecutor Sourin Ghosal told the Alipore court while seeking police custody of the arrested suspects till July 10. The court remanded prime suspect Mishra and law students Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee in police custody until July 8. Security guard Pinaki Banerjee, arrested on suspicion of abetting the June 25 crime inside the guardroom, will remain in custody until July 4. Ghosal argued for extended custody on the ground that the suspects, especially Mishra, were "very influential and may influence the investigation". If granted bail, they might "terrorise" the survivor and tamper with evidence, he said. Police also informed the court that not only did the medical report of the survivor corroborate her statement, technical evidence collected by the special investigation team and circumstantial proof matched her version of how the crime unfolded. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo New evidence presented include CCTV footage from the pharmacy where the inhaler was purchased and the mobile location data of the suspects. Police have questioned six of 17 students present on campus that evening. Investigators are examining why Mishra called the college vice-principal the day after the assault. They also plan to question the college union's general secretary, who left the survivor alone hours before the attack after promising to return. According to the FIR, the general secretary was with the survivor from 4pm to 7.30pm after Zaib summoned them, claiming Mishra wanted to discuss something regarding the union. The general secretary then left, saying she would return shortly, but never did. Police quoted Zaib and Pramit as telling interrogators that Mishra planned the assault after repeated rejections by the survivor, whom he purportedly wanted to marry. The college's governing body has expelled Mishra, who worked as a temporary member of the non-teaching staff while practising law. The other two suspects have been barred from all Bengal educational institutions. The college will petition the authorities to revoke Mishra's law licence. The college's vice-principal said Tuesday that the perpetrators of the crime should be "hanged".
