Martine McCutcheon declared bankrupt for second time months after marriage split

Metro5 days ago
Actress and singer Martine McCutcheon has been declared bankrupt, 11 months on from her marriage split.
The ex-EastEnders star began dating Jack McManus in 2009, and they married in 2012 before announcing their separation last year.
Now, it has been revealed that the 49-year-old has filed a petition for insolvency due to a debt to a finance company.
As official public records state, Love Actually actress Martine made the filing just two months after selling her family home, which she did at a slashed price, knocking £250,000 off the £1.5million Surrey pad for a faster sale.
According to MailOnline, Martine's bankruptcy order was made in her married name—Martine McManus—despite her being single at the time.
The order was issued in March at the County Court in Guildford, Surrey, after the company LDF Finance filed a petition. It has not been specified how much money Martine owes them.
This is the second time Martine has been declared bankrupt.
Her first came in February 2013 at a High Court in London, even though she was said to be earning more than £250k a year then.
Shortly after the bankruptcy became public knowledge, Martine took to social media with a message for her followers.
'I can't begin to express my love and gratitude for such kind and encouraging messages. I'm truly so touched. I love you guys. Thank you. Xx', she wrote on X, then Twitter.
Martine, known for playing Tiffany Mitchell, was then discharged from bankruptcy on January 2, 2014.
Also within a year of their wedding day, Martine faced serious financial hardship as debts mounted.
Consequently, she had to sell the £25,000 engagement ring Jack proposed to her with.
'I just thought my health, money, career have all been taken from me, and now even my engagement ring—the one thing that represents what is solid in my life—has gone,' she said woefully at the time.
Back to present day, alas, her second bankruptcy isn't the only financial issue facing Martine as she navigates her divorce.
Last month, her company, Raven Music Ltd, allegedly faced off with HMRC over unpaid tax bills, owing over £175k.
It comes after Martine released a statement confirming she and Jack, with whom she shares a 10-year-old son, were parting ways.
'After much thought and consideration, Jack has decided it's best for us to separate after 18 years together and I accept his decision,' she previously wrote on Instagram.
'We are both so very blessed and grateful for our beautiful, 9 year old son Rafferty, whose happiness and welfare, has always been, and will continue to be, our number one priority.'
She added that both parties 'still cherish and look forward to being parents together to [their] wonderful boy for the rest of [their] lives'.
'Whilst this decision has evolved over a period of time, we are still finding our new way forward as a family and kindly ask for some privacy at this time… Especially for our little boy,' penned Martine.
'Our love for Rafferty is something that will never, waver, or change and we obviously want to protect him and help him feel as safe and secure as possible.'
She concluded by thanking fans for their 'respect and support' through the 'difficult' time, also wishing Jack 'all the love, luck, and happiness for the next chapter' of his life.
Martine and songwriter Jack first met at a music event in London, with the soap star recalling that it was pretty much love at first sight.
'We laid eyes on each other, and that was it,' she said.
'When we met, something very wonderful happened.
'I thought when I met The One. I'd be shouting it from the rooftops, because that's the sort of person I am. But it was like a quiet contentedness. More Trending
'It was so calm and warm, and I felt, for once, that I didn't need to brag. I think he felt the same.'
They tied the knot five years later in a lavish Lake Como ceremony.
Even that came with an unprecedented price, though, with Jack confessing afterwards that 'hidden costs' were incurred, forcing them to pay 'thousands' to the mafia to let off fireworks.

Love Island's Lauren Wood claps back at Women's Aid's statement on Harrison Solomon's behaviour as she insists 'it was blown out of proportion'

Love Island's Lauren Wood has clapped back at Women's Aid after the charity accused her partner Harrison Solomon of 'misogyny' and 'sexism' on the show. Harrison, 22, quit the Majorca villa last week after becoming embroiled in a love triangle with Islanders Toni Laites, 24, and Lauren, 26, which saw the footballer go back and forth between the two women, causing weeks of upset and conflict. His treatment of the pair was condemned by viewers but much to his dismay, Women's Aid also criticised his actions by releasing a damning statement claiming his behaviour 'reinforces a culture that excuses and trivialises violence against women and girls.' But dog walker Lauren has declared the charity's statement was 'blown way out of proportion' as she insisted Harrison 'just made a mistake'. She told Cosmopolitan: 'Erm obviously, I think it was blown out of proportion like he's made a mistake but everyone makes mistakes. 'Like, he's gone about it the wrong way, he knows he has done wrong. I think it was just the timing of everything. 'It was literally just the timing of it but like he said, he isn't a bad person and everyone in the villa knows that.' MailOnline has contacted Women's Aid for comment. The Derby-born Islander had a relationship with US waitress Toni before embarking on a new romance with Lauren after meeting her in rival villa Casa Amor, with the couple becoming the first to have sex on the ITV2 show this series. But Harrison then sparked outrage by convincing Toni, who was unaware he had slept with Lauren, to rekindle, leaving the distraught influencer in floods of tears. Shortly after their bedroom antics were exposed, Lauren was dumped from the villa and followed out the door by Harrison, who was quickly informed of Women's Aid's criticism which left him dumbstruck. Fans on X shared their concern for Lauren's disagreement with Women's Aid and wrote: 'She forgive Harrison everything. Let's c once they have split up', 'setting women back omg', 'Standing up for someone is one thing, but brushing off a real issue as 'just a mistake' can do more harm than good', 'To think they were trying to support her as well. They literally made that statement to support her', 'Mind you Women's Aid were backing HER and were fuming about how she was treated and she's saying this? This girl has set women back 1000 years'. Fans on X shared their concern for Lauren's disagreement with Women's Aid and wrote: 'She forgive Harrison everything. Let's c once they have split up' Meanwhile, Harrison revealed what he really thought on the Women's Aid statement in an exclusive interview with MailOnline. He insisted the charity was wrong to call him out and claims the nature of the statement upset his family. He said: 'I have seen the backlash and it's hard to digest. I would disagree with a lot of it in terms of my respect for women, I do respect women. 'The worst has been from Women's Aid. I know myself and the girls on the show too, Toni said she knows I'm not a bad person, just went about situations in the wrong way, but the Women's Aid statement wasn't nice... it's not nice coming out of the villa to my mum upset by that so I would say that's been the hardest.' He added: 'To the women I have hurt, I am obviously sorry. I got it wrong and the back and forth between the two connections caused more harm than I ever intended. 'It wasn't ever an ego thing. I am not proud of how I handled things and I'm not going to make excuses. 'I just want to own it. If people can give me the space to grow from it, I will do everything I can to be better and that's the only thing I can do. 'There is no handbook for how to be on a show like Love Island. It's instincts and intentions. I got some of it right, but I know I got a lot of it wrong, and I know that now.' Lauren was regularly left in tears after feeling humiliated by Harrison and his actions in the Love Island villa Harrison said the statement issued by Women's Aid, which commented on women being 'lied to, slut-shamed, and laughed at behind their backs' was particularly detrimental given the close relationship he shares with his mother and younger sister. Harrison says leaving Love Island was a decision he made himself, telling MailOnline: 'I have seen a lot of this online and I feel like I am my own man and I'm going to make my own choices. 'I wouldn't have left one of the biggest TV shows in the UK if I didn't see a future with Lauren. It was a very emotional conversation because she was just dumped, she was acting on emotion, she just wanted to get across to me how much she was into me and wanted to give me a second chance. 'I understand where people are coming from, but Lauren found a proper connection, of course she wanted me to leave with her. Lauren didn't make the decision for me though I followed my heart.' American contestant Toni believed she had found The One in Harrison, given he was Miami based and in her age range, but after realising she deserved better than to be an option, she told him: 'You treated me like s*** repeatedly and I tried to walk away multiple times. Jessica and Jack have millions of followers, plus book and TV deals coming out of their ears. Everyone wants a marriage as wonderful as theirs. Behind the scenes, however, they're both miserable. She wants a baby while he wants his old job back at the BBC. During a moment of drunken madness, Jack unwisely reveals all. What now, as followers and publishers desert the golden couple in droves? Lots of fun media detail and some great minor characters; Jack's stingy and snobbish parents, in particular. MY OTHER HEART by Emma Nanami Strenner (Hutchinson Heinemann £18.99, 416pp) A sharp upstairs-downstairs look at the Asian-American experience. We're in Philadelphia with Kit, Japanese adopted daughter of a wealthy white couple, and her BFF Sabrina, child of a poor Chinese single mum. School's just ended and this last summer before college has some big surprises in store. While feckless, beautiful Kit flies off to find herself in Tokyo, the less assured Sabrina interns at a downtown migrant charity. In the background is Vietnamese Mimi, whose child was snatched as a baby, and Lee Lee, Sabrina's prickly ma. I loved this family drama which considers geography and destiny from a fascinating point of view – with a great twist at the end. THE SECRETS OF DRAGONFLY LODGE by Rachel Hore (Simon and Schuster £16.99, 480pp) Writer Stef's researching a book about pioneering women scientists. One is zoologist Nancy Foster, an elderly Norfolk neighbour of her mother's. Brilliant as she was, Nancy's career never reached the heights it should have, but why? Stef sets about finding out, getting to know her subject's smouldering grandson along the way. There unfolds a tale of sexism and skulduggery. The action moves between modern-day Stef and 1950s London, where Nancy studies alongside dashing and dastardly James West. Hore's novels are absorbing, calming and wonderfully sane. They should be prescribed on the NHS.

The naked truth about Page 3: Model Nicola Tappenden reveals 'shocking' wages, life-changing diagnosis at 41 and doomed relationship with Jeff Brazier

For years, Nicola Tappenden was one of Britain's most recognisable Page 3 models, beaming from tabloids and red carpets with effortless glamour. But behind the smiles and photo shoots, she carried a weight she couldn't explain - until a life-changing diagnosis at 41 finally made everything make sense. 'I spent my life feeling different,' Nicola tells MailOnline. 'Like I didn't fit in. Always asking myself, 'Why did I say that? Why did I do that?' That nagging feeling would follow her through fame and her relationships, including a disastrous romance with TV presenter Jeff Brazier. Twenty years earlier, before entering the world of glamour modelling, Nicola worked in compliance at Citibank and lived in Croydon with parents Tina and Steve. A light-hearted pub chat with friends about her 'great boobs' led to her entering The Sun's Page 3 Idol contest in 2002. She kept her progress in the competition a secret from work and when her manager found out, he jokingly confronted her. However, the company's HR wasn't so lighthearted and told her she'd boosted office morale, but her time at the bank was up. Soon after, Nicola won the contest with over 25,000 votes. The prize: a one-year contract with The Sun, red carpet invites, photoshoots, celebrity parties, and what was sold as a fast track to fame and fortune. She was 20, living at home with her parents in Croydon and working for a bank when her friends encouraged her to apply for the contest, which she won after attracting more than 25,000 votes from The Sun readers 'It was just a massive whirlwind,' Nicola recalls. Suddenly, at aged 20 Nicola was walking the red carpet and meeting A-listers at the premiere of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. The following day's paper would see Nicola posing in a barely-there dress with the headline: 'Good Lord, it's Nicola's 2 towers!'. 'One night I was at a premiere mixing with A-listers, the next morning I was having a bowl of cornflakes with my mum and dad,' she says. However, she would soon discover the promise of 'fortune' was underwhelming - £1,000 a month. 'I was earning more at the bank,' Nicola reveals. 'I got paid £1,000 a month and then £250 a day to attend events but that might be one day a week or one day a month.' Nicola also found the reality far less glamorous than it appeared. 'I think I did Page 3 for about five years altogether. 'It just isn't what you think it would be.' Despite the public attention, Nicola began to realise that behind the glossy images, her mental health was unravelling. She never felt good enough - not pretty enough, not smart enough and not worthy. She was also subject to a deeply unsettling experience. During a visit to Gibraltar to welcome home Royal Navy officers, Nicola found herself alone in a private room with a group of drunk, high-ranking men. They pressured her to expose herself. Intimidated and alone, she complied - then fled the room in tears. 'They just kept chanting. I eventually gave in - and I've never felt so ashamed.' Back in England, her agent reported the incident. She was sent flowers and an apology - she heard nothing more. 'I was young and vulnerable, and instead of being protected, I was exposed,' she says. Despite the challenges, Nicola became iconic in the Page 3 world. But inwardly, she struggled with relentless self-doubt. 'I never felt pretty enough. I would obsess over every photo. I just wanted to be liked.' She dated several high-profile men, including footballers Bobby Zamora and Simon Walton, who she welcomed daughter Poppy with. Bobby, she says, opened her eyes to a world beyond Croydon. 'He lived in a penthouse in Canary Wharf, and showed me a totally different kind of life. He was normal, funny, kind. I'm grateful to him for that.' She later dated Jeff Brazier, TV presenter and ex-partner of the late Jade Goody. Their relationship, Nicola says, was deeply unhealthy from the start. 'If I'd known then what I know now - about trauma, about myself - I never would have stayed. But I did, because I was desperate to be liked, to feel enough. 'There was a defining moment, and at that point, I should have said I'm never going to speak to you ever again.' Meanwhile, as the Page 3 culture shifted, Nicola became disillusioned. 'The early days of Page 3 when photographer Beverley Goodway was there were the best,' she says. 'He created this amazing culture and when the girls got together, we all loved to see each other. 'It changed when Beverley retired.' During a calendar shoot, Nicola clashed with another model over their unkind behaviour. To this day, she's unsure if she quit or was pushed out - but either way, she was done. She remains close to fellow ex-Page 3 girls Nikkala Stott and Keeley Hazell. 'We laugh all the time because they say I got sacked. If I got sacked, I didn't know about it. But I never went on Page 3 again,' she says. By then, Nicola had built a successful business, launched a fashion label, and went on to appear on reality TV shows, including WAGs Boutique and Celebrity Big Brother where she entered the house to boos. 'Coming out to cheers felt like people were finally seeing me for who I really was,' she says. But the turning point in Nicola's life came at the school gates. A fellow mum suggested Nicola might have ADHD after recognising the same symptoms her daughter had. At first, Nicola was stunned. She then received a professional diagnosis and cried for weeks. 'It was like someone had lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. I realised there was never anything 'wrong' with me, it was what was right with me. 'I grieved for that little girl who was constantly misunderstood. The girl who always felt like she was failing and never good enough.' The diagnosis reframed her life. It also gave her the tools to help her daughter, Poppy, who has also been diagnosed with ADHD. Determined to support other women like her, Nicola launched Noops, a supplement brand aimed at managing ADHD symptoms. She spent 18 months working with scientists to develop the gluten-free and vegan supplement designed to support brain health, energy, mood, focus and sleep. 'I didn't want more chemical medication. But the supplement market was overwhelming. So I created what I wished had existed,' says Nicola, who also runs digital consultancy, Belle Digital. Now 42, she lives a quieter life in Surrey with ex-footballer partner Simon - whom she reunited with 12 years after their split - and their daughter, Poppy, 16, as well as son Louis, five, who she had in another relationship. 'Simon and I found each other again and it's definitely where I'm meant to be.' Nicola no longer chases the limelight - she chases meaning. 'Celebrity life wasn't good for my mental health. It made me feel desperate, and I never want to feel like that again,' she says. View this post on Instagram A post shared by noops (@noopsnootropics) She dreams of launching a ADHD support network for women, to help others avoid the pain she endured silently for so long. And she has her sights set on taking Noops to America, as well as raising awareness about ADHD in girls. She explains: 'ADHD goes undiagnosed in girls because the traits are so different. In boys, we recognise the traits as being hyperactive and a naughty little boy, 'But little girls, it's so different. They are almost in a bubble, in a fairy bubble.' Today, Nicola isn't just a former model. She's a mother, a businesswoman, an ADHD advocate - and someone who has finally found peace in who she is. 'There were times I didn't want to be here anymore. But now I know - I was always worthy. I just needed to understand myself first.' WHAT IS ADHD? Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a behavioural condition defined by inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsiveness. It affects around five per cent of children in the US. Some 3.6 per cent of boys and 0.85 per cent of girls suffer in the UK. Symptoms typically appear at an early age and become more noticeable as a child grows. These can also include: Constant fidgeting Poor concentration Excessive movement or talking Acting without thinking Inability to deal with stress Little or no sense of danger Careless mistakes Mood swings Forgetfulness Difficulty organising tasks Continually starting new tasks before finishing old ones Inability to listen or carry out instructions Most cases are diagnosed between six and 12 years old. Adults can also suffer, but there is less research into this. ADHD's exact cause is unclear but is thought to involve genetic mutations that affect a person's brain function and structure. Premature babies and those with epilepsy or brain damage are more at risk. ADHD is also linked to anxiety, depression, insomnia, Tourette's and epilepsy. There is no cure. A combination of medication and therapy is usually recommended to relieve symptoms and make day-to-day life easier.
