Six-year-old arrested in Mauritius: Cannabis worth ₹18.8 crore found in luggage during airport raid
A six-year-old British boy was arrested in Mauritius after £1.6 million ( ₹ 18.8 crore) worth of cannabis was found in his luggage. The child arrived with six British adults earlier this week. Officials found 14 kilos of cannabis in the child's bag and more in others' suitcases, totalling 161 kilos. Authorities called using a child for smuggling 'inhumane', according to The Sun. Eleven Apple AirTags were found, suggesting links to a drug gang, according to MailOnline. The boy has now returned to the UK with his father. The adults remain in custody after appearing in court. The drugs were found during a joint airport raid by customs and anti-drug teams. Shocked families back home said they had no idea. All six adults are from Cambridgeshire. They are Laura Kappen (28), a bar worker; Shannon Holness (29), a caterer; Shona Campbell (33), a cleaner; Lily Watson, also a caterer; and Patrick Wilsdon (21), a window fitter. A Romanian man, Florian Lisman (38), living in Huntingdon and working as a machine operator, was also arrested. The group is suspected of being part of a wider network smuggling drugs from Europe to Mauritius. The case has shocked officials at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport. It has raised concerns about child exploitation in drug trafficking. Wilsdon was described by his mother as vulnerable and unaware. She claimed the 21-year-old had been offered a 'free holiday' by a friend who had now gone missing. A UK Foreign Office spokesperson said they are supporting the arrested British citizens in Mauritius. 'We are supporting several British nationals who are detained in Mauritius and are in contact with the local authorities,' MailOnline quoted the spokesperson as saying. The case adds to a growing list of British nationals caught abroad for drug smuggling. In May, Charlotte May Lee, 21, was arrested in Sri Lanka after 46kg of cannabis was reportedly found in her bags. The South London resident denies knowing about the drugs. She hasn't been charged yet. If guilty, she may face 25 years in prison.

British holidaymakers in Spain face summer of strikes by hospitality staff
British holidaymakers may find their getaways thrown into chaos amid a summer of planned strike action at popular Spanish destinations. Hospitality sector workers in the Balearic Islands have threatened to walk out from July 10 after talks broke down over pay increases. A total of 180,000 workers in hotels, restaurants and other tourist spots – a majority of those employed in the sector on the islands – are set to strike. It comes amid a wave of other industrial action as well as protests against over-tourism across Spain. The main flash point in negotiations with unions is a 17 per cent pay rise demanded by unions. So far workers have been offered a salary bump of 8.5 per cent. The latest announcement of strike action comes despite an eleventh-hour deal reached with hotel workers to avoid a walkout in four of the Canary Islands including Tenerife. Further strikes in Majorca, Ibiza and Formentera will affect all bars, restaurants, cafes and night spots may go ahead on July 18, 19, 25 and 31. The UGT union is also demanding several other reforms to working practices, including a 35-hour working week and to increase the duration of seasonal fixed-term contracts from six to nine months a year. UGT spokesperson Jose Garcia Relucio branded concessions made at Thursday's talks as 'more crumbs', MailOnline reported. The union said that despite entering the negotiations to improve conditions for workers, the meeting had ended with several agreed reforms rolled back. However the Majorca Hotel Business Federation blamed UGT for a creating a poor negotiating environment and failing to listen to its reasons for not meeting its demands. Its vice-president, María José Aguiló, said: 'We have reached a point where, despite the fact we have been willing to address the issue of guaranteed employment for fixed-term contracts, they have not listened to our reasons for not raising the proposed [salary] increase.' Holidaymakers have already been disrupted this week after EasyJet cabin crew in Spain went on strike from Wednesday, impacting dozens of flights to popular destinations including Malaga, Barcelona and Alicante. A total of 62 flights were cancelled with the airline to and from Spain on Thursday, the second day of action. More Trending The USO union has not ruled out a further indefinite strike if its demands its members to be paid equal to EasyJet employees in other countries are not met. Earlier this month, thousands marched across Spain to tell Brits to 'go home' amid concerns over unsustainable tourism at favourite holiday spots. A demonstration in Palma de Majorca saw protesters carry placards in front of beleaguered tourists reading: 'Mallorca is not your cash cow… go home' and 'your holidays, our anxiety'. Jeff Bezos marries blushing bride Lauren Sanchez in £48milion Venice wedding
The world's second richest man Jeff Bezos has tied the knot with his longterm love, Lauren Sanchez. The couple are now officially husband and wife after they said their 'I do's' in a lavish £48million ceremony surrounded by their famous friends and family. The couple exchanged vows in a ceremony lasting about 25 minutes, with family and friends gathered at the event. They were heard cheering, clapping and whistling for the pair after they said 'I do'. While the couple have celebrated their wedding today in Venice, it was reported that the pair had actually tied the knot weeks ago. According to a well-placed insider involved in the event planning, they said: 'They have been married for at least a month, more than a month. The marriage is fully legal and took place in America under American law.' Though this week's festivities have been widely billed as their wedding, the source revealed it's purely ceremonial. 'When they were planning the wedding, they were clear about the fact that they were already secretly married,' the insider said. Because the legal marriage has already occurred, there was no need for a license in Italy. 'There is no application for a wedding licence from the couple because it was not required. Whatever happens at the wedding on Friday, it will not be a wedding. "Under Italian law, it will not be a wedding celebration, any vows said or rings exchanged will have no legal meaning," they told Mail Online. The same source added that Bezos himself confirmed the legal union and noted the pair had arranged a prenuptial agreement to safeguard his $244 billion fortune. Bezos and Sánchez reportedly married privately in the U.S., well before the high-profile Venetian celebration began. The couple arrived in Venice this week ahead of their lavish wedding celebrations, which will take place over the next few days. A helicopter picked Bezos and his bride-to-be up from his superyacht Koru's support ship, the Albeona. They were docked just off the coast of Croatia, with the yacht taking 61-year-old Bezos and Lauren Sanchez, 55, to the city of Venice. It landed in the Venice Lido, which is where the annual Venice Film Festival takes place. To kicked proceedings off on Thursday night, a casual welcome dinner will be held at the 14th Century Madonna dell'Orto church. Local sources claimed security is ultra-tight, turning the stunning city into a "fortress-like operation". The ceremony was expected to take place at the Scuola Grande della Misericordia, an historic 16th-century building in the city centre. But the No Space for Bezos campaign group claim the couple scrambled to change their plans, after activists threatened to block the canals with inflatable crocodiles to stop their guests from attending. Instead, it's been moved to Arsenale, a shipyard complex which will be near-impossible for protestors to get to. Lauren Sanchez and her new husband arrived, with Lauren wearing oversized black sunglasses and a simple black halterneck dress. Meanwhile, their high-profile guests started to descend on the city earlier this week. Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka arrived with her husband Jared Kushner. She wore a green dress and canvas sunhat as she arrived by boat after a day of sightseeing. The couple's three children, Arabella Rose, Joseph Frederick and Theodore James, joined them. Other guests to arrive early include Jeff's adoptive father Miguel Bezos, as well as Orlando Bloom, Katy Perry, Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian. Just 11 people live on the island and its only dwelling is a modest five-bedroom home, previously the guesthouse to a convent which was part of a long-destroyed monastery complex. .

Jewellery expert reveals why rings should not be worn in gyms
Rings should not be worn in gyms. Neil Ditta, a jewellery expert from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne-based store Angelic Diamonds, said people risk health problems, as well as losing their jewellery piece, if they wear their wedding, engagement or other rings whilst working out. This includes getting rashes or infections as bacteria gets onto the piece of jewellery whilst working up a sweat. He is quoted by MailOnline as saying: "Jewellery worn during exercise collects bacteria that can cause skin redness, rashes or infections. "If your skin around the ring starts to look sore or inflamed, it is a clear sign to give your ring a break and clean it thoroughly." As well as inflamed fingers, gymgoers with tight rings can also get swollen fingers, which is a "common" reason for people going to Accident and Emergency (A+E) Neil added: "Swollen fingers combined with tight rings are a common cause of emergency visits to A E. "It is an avoidable risk if you remove your ring before exercising." Another reason to not wear rings in a gym is that workouts can "weaken" the ring's band, meaning it can easily fall off a person's finger. He said: "The constant gripping and friction during workouts weakens the ring's band and can loosen stones. "Damage may not be obvious straight away, but it builds up quickly over time." And Neil stressed that high-intensity training exercises, such as push-ups and squats are not good for rings. He explained: "High-intensity training is fantastic for fitness, but tough on rings,' Mr Ditta said. "The combination of heavy weights and rapid motions increases the chance of your ring getting caught, knocked, or damaged. "Functional training especially involves equipment and grips that can easily snag jewellery, so it is simply safer to leave rings at home during these sessions."
