Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launches Chennai Book Park in Central Metro station
The book park has in its collection works published by KSL Media Limited, Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation, Kalachuvadu Publications Private Limited, Ahaguru Education Technology Private Limited, among others. From T.V. Sadasiva Pandarathar's Tamil Ilakkiya Varalaru to P. Vimala's Enadhu Aangal, booklovers have a wide variety to choose from.
'The Chennai Book Park has about 15,000 books. One can buy books published by the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation. We also have books from 14 publishers/retailers under the same roof,' said P. Shankar, Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation and Director of Public Libraries.
Central Metro station was chosen as the location for the first book park in Chennai due to its connectivity and high footfall, he said. Based on the reception of the station's book park, others will be opened at places such as the Alandur Metro station, Mr. Shankar said. The completely air-conditioned 'Chennai Book Park' also has an event space for new book releases and a cafeteria.
During the event, Mr. Stalin also released new titles published by the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation. He also launched www.tntextbooksonline.com, which aims to enable those in other States and abroad to buy books published by the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation. He also virtually inaugurated new buildings for libraries across the State.
Ministers P.K. Sekarbabu and Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi; Chennai Mayor R. Priya; Egmore MLA I. Paranthamen, and senior officials were present.

Stalin wants to develop ‘Chola Gangam' dug by Rajendra Chola I at ₹20 crore
In view of the birth anniversary of the legendary Tamil king Rajendra Chola I on Aadi Thiruvathirai on July 23 this year, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday announced that the 'Chola Gangam' lake would be developed at a cost of ₹12 crore. He also announced that tourist activities at the site would be developed at a cost of ₹7.25 crore. Chola Gangam also known as 'Ponneri', was dug by king Rajendra Chola I to celebrate his northern campaign, according to Tiruvalangadu Copper Plates. As per the announcement made by the Chief Minister, the banks of the tank spread over 700 acres would be strengthened, an official release said. Renovation of channels around the tank and other maintenance works would be undertaken. These works would help in the irrigation in the area and would thereby benefit farmers in 1,374 acres. The development activities to be undertaken by the Tourism Department would include establishing an information centre, park, perimeter walls, surveillance cameras, electricity and other amenities. The Tamil Nadu government has been celebrating the birth anniversary of the legendary Tamil king Rajendra Chola I on Aadi Thiruvathirai since 2021, it said. It has already in the process of establishing a museum spread over 10 acres at a cost of ₹22.10 crore. Preliminary works for establishing the museum is already on, the release said.

Minister distributes power operated chaff cutter at subsidised price to farmers in Salem
Tourism Minister R. Rajendran distributed power operated chaff cutter to farmers at a 50% subsidised price under the Fodder Development Scheme on Monday. At a function held on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Animal Husbandry Department on the Integrated Veterinary Hospital premises, the Minister said that in the last four years, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had been implementing various schemes to ensure the development of all sectors and become self-sufficient. In Salem district, welfare schemes were being implemented through 16 veterinary multi-specialty hospitals, 152 veterinary hospitals, 2,741 veterinary dispensaries, 56 mobile veterinary dispensaries, and 815 veterinary branch stations. The Animal Husbandry Department implemented a native chicken rearing scheme under the National Agriculture Development Programme and 100 beneficiaries received native chickens at a cost of ₹75.83 lakh. For the 2,000 beneficiaries who were under poverty, 5 goats and sheep each, worth ₹3.82 crore, were provided with 100% subsidy. In addition, rural beneficiaries, who were capable of raising poultry, had been provided with a 50% subsidy to establish poultry farms. Similarly, the State Fodder Development Project had been implemented on 110 acres at ₹3.30 lakh, the Minister added. Stating that 400 beneficiaries received power operated chaff cutter worth ₹66 lakh under a 50% subsidy last year, the Minister said that for destitute women, native chickens (40 chickens each) worth ₹32 lakh were provided to 2,000 beneficiaries with a 50% subsidy. Likewise, 350 Adi Dravidar and Tribal beneficiaries were provided milch cows worth ₹1.22 crore. Based on the fact that if the green fodder was cut into small pieces and given, it would be easily digested and the health and productivity of the livestock would increase, these cutters were provided, Mr. Rajendran added. District Collector R. Brindha Devi and officials participated.
