The completely air-conditioned 'Chennai Book Park' also has an event space for new book releases and a cafeteria.
During the event, Mr. Stalin also released new titles published by the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation. He also launched www.tntextbooksonline.com, which aims to enable those in other States and abroad to buy books published by the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation. He also virtually inaugurated new buildings for libraries across the State.

The Tamil Nadu government on Sunday said it had set up over 2,300 ration shops, including 789 permanent and 1,605 temporary ones, in the past four years. On the directions of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, it had introduced transactions through Unified Payments Interface. An official release that listed the achievements in the Public Distribution System (PDS) since 2021, recalled the distribution of assistance to people during the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters such torrential rain and floods, among others. The government distributed Pongal gift hampers to over 2.15 crore rice ration card holders in 2022, and the beneficiaries numbered over 2.19 crore in 2023. While 2.19 crore beneficiaries received the gift hampers in 2024, 1.94 crore received them in 2025, it said. AIADMK to protest demanding immediate opening of Palayamkottai Market inaugurated by Stalin in February

The AIADMK has announced that the party would soon organise demonstration demanding the immediate opening of the Mahatma Gandhi Market in Palayamkottai, rebuilt at a cost of ₹14.90 crore under the Centre's Smart City Mission programme, as it remains closed even after being inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on February 7. According to Thatchai N. Ganesa Raja, AIADMK's Tirunelveli district secretary, the 60-year-old market was rebuilt with 439 shops, cold storage and parking facility in the basement to generate the whopping revenue of ₹2.08 crore per annum to the Corporation. Even though this market was inaugurated by Mr. Stalin five months ago, the market still remains closed due to 'rampant corruption' in allotting the shops to the traders. 'While the traders, who had their shops in this market, demand preference in the allotment of shops, the Corporation says the shops would be assigned to those who are prepared to pay the rent fixed by the urban civic body. And, cases were filed by a few traders in the court that stalled the opening of the market. Though this interim stay has been vacated, the Corporation is in no mood to allot the shops through public auction in fair and transparent manner to the waiting applicants. So, we, in support of the waiting traders, have decided to protest demanding the immediate opening of the Palayamkottai Gandhi Market,' said Mr. Ganesa Raja. He also said the party would also organise a series of agitations if the 'Amma Unvagavam' within the Tirunelveli Corporation were not maintained well to serve quality food to the poor. 'The AIADMK funded the maintenance and operation of the 'Amma Unvagagam' during the COVID-induced lockdown. We gave the money for serving food to the poor during the pandemic. Now, the Corporation is allowing these eateries to die as it was the scheme initiated by Amma (late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa). We won't allow it to happen. If the Corporation still refuses to maintain these eateries well, the urban local body will face intense protest by the AIADMK,' Mr. Ganesa Raja warned.

TNGCPL terminates contract awarded to BGR for North Chennai Super Critical Thermal Power Project, Stage III

Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation Ltd (TNGCPL) has terminated contract awarded to BGR Energy Systems Ltd. for the establishment of 1 x 800 mW North Chennai Super Critical Thermal Power Project, Stage III – Balance of Plant (BOP) package along with allied civil works engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract worth ₹2,600.02 crore, citing the non-fulfillment of key project obligations among others. In a stock exchange filing, BGR said it received the termination letter from TNGCPL on July 18. TNGCPL cited various reasons for termination of contract, including the contractor being unable to fulfil key project obligations, critical systems remaining incomplete, and the contractual requirements for insurance renewals and guarantee extensions were not met, according to BGR. The company said it is awaiting a positive outcome from the Arbitration application pending before the Madras High Court in this matter and said there is no major impact on its financials and operations. North Chennai Super Critical Thermal Power Project Stage-III (1x800 mW) is situated in Tiruvallur district. The Super Critical 800 mW project cost, including Interest During Construction (IDC), is ₹10,158 crore, according to the State Energy Department policy note for 2025-2026. The Project was commissioned and inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in March 2024. The unit was synchronised using coal firing on 17.03.2024, and achieved full load by 27.06.2024. Further, a trial run was started on 20.03.2025 and is continuously operating. It has also reached its maximum capacity of 675 mW during the trial run on 28.03.2025. All steps are being taken to achieve the date of commercial operation as soon as possible, the policy note said. Once the plant reaches its installed capacity of 800 mW and operates continuously for 72 hours, it will be considered a power plant. It is designed to operate with 50% Imported and 50% Domestic Coal. Earlier, TNPGCL had terminated the EPC contract awarded to BGR for the 660-MW Ennore Thermal Power Station (ETPS) expansion project, due to slow progress and poor performance.
