Man found with knife during fatal crash probe jailed
Jyrelle O'Connor, of Blackpond Lane, Farnham Royal, Buckinghamshire, was arrested by traffic officers following a struggle near the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Beaconsfield after they were called to a fatal collision in the early hours of Saturday, Thames Valley Police said.
The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to being in possession of a knife and obstructing a constable in the execution of their duty at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court.
O'Connor was sentenced to eight months' imprisonment at Monday's hearing.
A 27-year-old man was killed and his passenger seriously hurt in the collision near junction two.
The force's roads policing unit was searching for those involved in the crash when they arrested O'Connor, it said.
He was discovered to have a folding pocket knife, with a blade measuring more than 7.5cm (2.9in).
Investigating officer Det Sgt Ed Crofts, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "He attempted to make off from officers and resisted arrest when the knife was located.
"He was arrested and charged within 24 hours and has now been jailed for the offence.
"We will never tolerate anybody carrying dangerous weapons in our community and will seek to bring to justice those that do so."
Trad Almaghrabi, 23, from Harlington Road in Uxbridge, was also due to appear at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court on Monday.
He was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Police said the collision involved a black Volkswagen Golf and blue Mercedes AMG C250.

Possible shooting at Encino home sparks outrage amongst neighbors in midst of crime wave
Just two weeks after "American Idol" producer Robin Kaye and her husband were shot and killed in their Encino home, another possible shooting next door has outraged neighbors who are struggling to feel safe in the midst of a concerning wave of crime affecting their neighborhood. Hundreds of people flooded the White Oak Avenue home for a party that had to be broken up by police late Saturday night, shown in cell phone video captured by neighbors. They say that the house has been a constant issue, and despite complaints, nothing has yet been done. "This party house would've been shut down in Beverly Hills, would've been shut down in Burbank, but in LA you can break the law and there's no consequences," said Rob Glushon, the president of the Encino Property Owners Association. "We're very supportive of LAPD, but honestly they need to be tougher. This is an example of when something gets out of control because the law doesn't get enforced when the problem starts." It's just the latest issue in a growing trend that has seen the neighborhood plagued by break-ins, burglaries, robberies and murder. Sussex Police crime investigations require improvement, report says
Sussex Police has been told it must do more to improve the way it investigates crime, a new report has said. His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) has published its inspection of Sussex Police. The Police Efficiency, Effectiveness and Legitimacy (PEEL) inspection programme is an assessment of the effectiveness, efficiency and legitimacy of all 43 police forces in England and Wales. The inspection report highlights many areas of good performance seen in the Sussex Police, including innovative and promising practice, as well as areas where improvements should be made. Sussex Police was rated either 'good' or 'adequate' across most categories, but received a lower grade of 'requires improvement' for its approach to investigating crime. CC Shiner said: 'We are absolutely committed to delivering an outstanding service to the people of Sussex, as they rightly expect. 'We recognise at the time of the report, our charge rate for investigations was below the national average and there was a significant number of live and outstanding investigations, particularly in our Safeguarding Investigations Unit, which was impacting our ability to deliver an effective and efficient service. 'Since then, we have made a start on our long-term plan to improve investigations, with large-scale changes underway to move officers into more specialist teams for adult and child protection, and high-risk domestic and sexual offence investigations. 'Over the last two years, we have increased the number of victim-based crimes with a successful outcome by 51 per cent. We have also seen our charge rate for victim-based crime increase to 6.9% in the year ending June 2025, compared to the 5.3% referenced in the inspection report from the year ending June 2024. 'We have implemented multiple changes in the year since the inspection took place and while I know there is more to do, I am confident these steps are moving us firmly in the right direction.'
