I was the Osbournes' nanny. One day I saw Ozzy eat 50 steaks
It was 1996, and Bracewell had applied for work with a nannying agency to fund her travels after studying fine arts at RMIT.
The next week, a limousine arrived where she was temping as a receptionist and she was taken to meet the family. She was interviewed by Ozzy and Sharon – together with their children, Jack, Kelly and Aimee, then aged 13, 14 and 15 – and thinks she got the job because they wanted someone relaxed.
For the next 18 months, Breakwell lived and worked with the Osbournes, travelling between their home in Buckinghamshire and Beverley Hills. This was several years before the MTV reality show The Osbournes launched them to global fame; they asked her to stay ahead of the show's launch, but she was keen to get back to Australia.
With news of Ozzy Osbourne's death on Wednesday, she has been remembering her time with the family.
'I spent more time with Ozzy than probably any of them, to be honest, when he was home between tours. He was the funniest guy. Because he spoke slowly people thought he was stupid, but he was so smart.'
Breakwell, a Melbourne-based artist who runs her own gallery, said Ozzy was funny, down-to-earth, and without any airs or graces. 'He was always kind, he had time for everybody and made you feel really welcome,' she said.
'Because he didn't drive, he used to do things like get in the car, open the sunroof, turn his own music on and stand up and sing out the roof. He was quite obsessive compulsive. For a week he'd just be drawing all week, the next he'd have a cycling obsession, so he'd put the bike in the loungeroom and be cycling for days, or he'd decide he would only eat steak and he'd have 50 steaks a day.'

Melbourne in Winter means warm coats, good coffee and staying indoors. But there are some exceptions worth braving the city's famous cold for. One of them is happening now at the Royal Botanical Gardens where after dark it lights up to create mesmerising scenes. The annual Lightscape festival has been something I've wanted to check out for years, after it sold out in 2022 and 2023. When you first walk in, the word WOMINJEKA lights up beneath tall trees coloured purple and blue and pink. The Woiwurrung word spoken by the Wurundjeri people translates to 'welcome' and it's a fitting entry. For those who have visited in the past, this year's event promised 'new sights, new sounds, a whole new journey'. 'Wander through glowing floral canopies, marvel at the sparkling 'Effervescence', and lose yourself in a landscape reimagined with artistic lighting and immersive soundscapes,' event organisers wrote. Highlights include Trapezoid by ArtAV, Lasers by Culture Creative, Dandelions by Fantasy Wire and Greenhouses by Dan Adams — an exhibit that will have young hearts breaking as they're told 'no, you cannot go inside there'. Crowne Plaza Melbourne has this year formed a partnership with Lightscape to offer guests discounted tickets and a hotel stay (breakfast buffet included). The hotel, part of the IHG group, bills itself as the only absolute riverfront hotel in Melbourne and offers 432 gues suites and incredible views over the Yarra River. The partnership offers overnight accommodation for two including two tickets to Lightscape as well as beanies and blankets to help stay warm. Crowne Plaza Melbourne General Manager, Erkin Aytekin, said the partnership is designed to capture families looking for short city visits and staycations. 'Lightscape is the original immersive light experience, and it beautifully captures the magic of winter, encouraging families to explore the gardens as they have never seen before. Home and Away is coming to WA: Hit soap to film in the west this October
Home and Away is heading west for the first-time. Australia's number one television drama will film an 'ambitious, high-stakes storyline' in WA this October. Details are still unknown at this stage, with filming preparations a closely guarded secret. But pre-production is underway for the five special episodes, which will see Home and Away visit this side of the country for the first time in its 37-year history. 'In partnership with Tourism Western Australia, this special Home and Away event will see the show trade the familiar sands of Summer Bay for the vast and varied landscapes of WA,' an official release states. Filming is set to take place 'at several locations' across the State, with producers promising Western Australia will be showcased in all its stunning glory, 'from cosmopolitan Perth to its rugged coastline and expansive red outback.' The WA Government claims the episodes will showcase the State to audiences beyond Australis and New Zealand to almost 50 other international markets. The UK has a strong Home and Away fan base, with 250,000 UK-based viewers per episode, presenting a huge opportunity to promote WA as a tourism destination. Home and Away series producer, Lucy Addario, said the cast and crew were 'beyond excited' to be packing their bags and heading to Perth to begin shooting in two months' time. '(Western Australia's) awe-inspiring beauty, diverse landscapes and sheer scale make it the perfect backdrop for this huge storyline,' she said. 'Working with the Tourism Western Australia team has been an absolute joy and we can't wait for audiences to fall in love with WA like we have.' Tourism Minister Reece Whitby said he was thrilled to welcome the iconic show here. 'Home and Away has been a staple of Australian television for close to 40 years, and this special WA storyline presents a great opportunity to showcase the State to millions of viewers across the country and around the world,' he said.
