Ludhiana: Man nabbed for raping 17-year-old neighbour
The accused, identified as Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukh, reportedly took private photographs of the minor and used them to coerce her into sexual acts.
The victim's father filed a police complaint stating that on July 24, he returned home in the evening to find Sukhwinder inside his daughter's room. 'When confronted, the accused pushed him aside and fled. Upon questioning, the minor revealed that Sukhwinder had taken obscene pictures of her and had been blackmailing her, threatening to circulate them on social media if she refused his demands,' the victim's father said in the complaint.
An FIR has been lodged under Section 64(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to blackmail and sexual coercion and Section 6 of the POCSO Act for aggravated penetrative sexual assault on a minor.
Assistant sub-inspector Surinder Singh, the investigating officer, said the accused is a local farmer. 'Further investigations are underway,' he said.

Three arrested for robbing taxi driver at gunpoint
Times News Network Panchkula: Local police arrested three individuals—including the mastermind—who were allegedly involved in robbing a taxi driver at gunpoint. The arrest led to a breakthrough in a previously unsolved 2023 dacoity case, the police claimed. Addressing a press conference, ACP Crime Arvind Kamboj revealed that the case was originally registered at Pinjore police station on December 5, 2023. The complaint was lodged by the victim, Shanky Kashyap, a resident of Panipat. Kashyap reported that on the night of December 4, three men hired his taxi from Panipat Railway Station to Pinjore. On the way, two more individuals boarded the vehicle near Chandimandir toll plaza. Around 11PM, the five suspects diverted the taxi toward a secluded area near Kheda Basela village on Pinjore-Nalagarh road. There, they assaulted the driver, threatened him with a firearm, and stole his mobile phone and Rs 4,000 in cash. They fled the scene in his taxi. Following the FIR, police recovered the stolen vehicle from Dadumajra, Chandigarh, but the culprits remained at large. Recently, police received a tip-off that the two suspects—Dheeraj, a resident of Brahmanagar, Karnal, and Shiva alias Kaju, a resident of Rajiv Colony, Karnal—were hiding in Karnal. Acting on the intelligence, the police apprehended both individuals on July 31. They were presented in court on August 1 and remanded to seven days of police custody. During interrogation, the two accused revealed the identity of a third accomplice—Devendra Rana, also from Karnal—who was arrested on August 1. All three have been booked under BNS Section 395 (dacoity), Arms Act, and other charges. ACP Kamboj shared details about the criminal backgrounds of the accused. The mastermind, Dheeraj, is a habitual offender with seven prior cases registered against him, including an attempted ATM robbery in Haridwar. He was currently out on bail. The other two accused also have two previous cases each registered against them. Police are now investigating their criminal history and pursuing two other suspects who are at large. Efforts are underway to recover the illegal weapons and other stolen items used in the robbery. SP functionary booked for teaching ‘A for Akhilesh' in ‘PDA pathshala'
Lucknow: A case was registered against Samajwadi Party (SP) functionary Farhad Alam for allegedly operating an illegal 'PDA Pathshala' (school) in Saharanpur and teaching children political slogans in place of standard educational content. The FIR, filed at Dehat Kotwali police station, came after a complaint was lodged by a local youth, Maan Singh. According to the complaint, children at the school were being taught "A for Akhilesh", "D for Dimple Yadav" and "M for Mulayam Singh Yadav". These references to SP leaders sparked public outrage and hurt sentiments, leading to accusations of politicising education. The controversy erupted just days after the Yogi Adityanath govt faced criticism over proposed school mergers, which were later rolled back. Seizing the opportunity, Farhad Gada claimed he was educating children who were at home due to school closures. However, investigation revealed that the children seen in the viral video were brought in from a private school and were never affected by any school shutdowns. Gada transformed his residence in Ramnagar village into the so-called 'PDA Pathshala' and released a video showing uniformed children reciting politically charged alphabets. He defended his actions, saying, "Just as convent schools have their own curriculum, our PDA Pathshala introduces children to socialist ideology. We teach A for Akhilesh, D for Dimple, B for Babasaheb, and M for Mulayam." He further claimed he intended to take the model across Saharanpur district, targeting villages with reportedly shut govt schools. However, before he could expand his initiative, an FIR was filed against him. Saharanpur SP City Vyom Bindal said, "Based on the complaint received, we have booked the accused for running an illegal school and teaching inappropriate material to children. The matter is under investigation, and appropriate action will be taken following due legal process." Farhad has been booked under BNS section 353 (2) (promote enmity, hatred, or ill will between different groups) and under ST/SC Act. Spice trader loses 8cr in cumin deal
Ahmedabad: A long-standing business relation between an Ahmedabad spice trader and owners of a Rajkot commodity firm has reportedly gone sour because of unpaid dues over cumin consignments. The Ahmedabad trader has accused the firm's owners of cheating him out of Rs 8.21 crore for 2.03 lakh kg of cumin he delivered to them between Jan 25 and Jan 31 this year. The total prices of the cumin, sent in two consignment, was Rs 8.58 crore, he stated in his police complaint. He alleged that the owners — a father-son duo — deducted Rs 37 lakh as their commission but failed to pay the remaining Rs 8.21 crore. On the trader's repeated follow-ups, he was issued five post-dated cheques amounting to Rs 10 crore. However, he later found out that the said bank account had been frozen. The accused later stopped responding to calls and failed to return either the money or the cumin consignment, he state in the FIR. A case of cheating and breach of trust has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and is being investigated.
