Texas A&M DH announces departure, thanks Aggieland with heartwarming tribute
Texas A&M baseball's most integral leader shared a heartfelt and emotional goodbye to the Aggie faithful after becoming one of the program's most talented utility players in his graduate season in Bryan-College Station, Texas.
In collegiate athletics, players come and go frequently. Especially in the current era of the transfer portal, athletes are leaving their respective universities to pursue their future endeavors. Loyalty and leadership are two qualities that are rare in this new era and are extremely important in building a roster filled with players who will lay it all on the line for each other.
The Aggies did just that when they landed outfielder and designated-hitter Hayden Schott during last year's offseason. His ability to lead on and off the field earned him the No. 12 jersey for the 2025 season. Schott did the number justice, to say the least. He started 33 of 50 games this season for the Aggies and collected four homers and 34 RBI, but his contributions as a leader in the clubhouse were an invaluable trait that will be remembered forever in Aggieland.
On Thursday afternoon, Schott posted a heartwarming tribute to his time wearing the Maroon and White this season, thanking the fan base for their undeniable support.
Before his time in College Station, Schott was a standout outfielder for Columbia as he dominated his way to All-Ivy League honors in 2022 and 2023. Following his stint with the Lions, the Newport Beach, California, native quickly made an impact when he stepped on the field at Blue Bell Park.
His contributions on and off the diamond earned him the Marion Pugh Spirit Award for his instrumental abilities in bringing unity to the team and his valuable leadership.
Schott's charisma and personality instantly made him a fan favorite on the Texas A&M baseball roster this season. The 2025 "12th Man" will forever be remembered for his unwavering passion for his teammates, coaching staff and for every single member of the Aggie fanbase who stood by his side and constantly supported him throughout the ups and downs of the program's season that ended at the SEC Tournament at the end of May.

Texas A&M receives prediction to land elite 2027 4-star QB out of Georgia
Texas A&M's quarterback future presents an interesting discussion in today's transfer portal age, as 2025 starting QB Marcel Reed will need to succeed this season to continue in his role, while the depth chart includes redshirt freshman Miles O'Neill, who looks like the next man in line if Reed fails to deliver. However, 2026 four-star commit Helaman Casuga, who was one of the top performers during On3's Elite 11 event last week, looks like the future starter after Reed and O'Neill, so looking ahead to the 2027 cycle, coach Mike Elko and OC Collin Klein have their eyes on four-star quarterback Jayce Johnson, who is one his way to becoming a five-star prospect by this time next year. After landing in his top-five program list this week, Johnson is down to Tennessee, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Florida State, and Texas A&M. According to a source, Johnson and Collin Klein have developed a strong relationship based on what the Valdosta, Georgia native could do in his offense. On Saturday, it was revealed that Rivals recruiting insider Sam Spiegelman has predicted that Texas A&M will land Jayce Johnson, who is expected to announce his commitment on August 3. This isn't a shock given the staff's closeness to his development, combined with Elko's recruiting pipeline in Georgia, which features three high-ranking 2026 commits from the Peach State. Set to enter his all-important junior season at Lowndes High School, Johnson made his mark during his 2024 sophomore season after throwing for 1,799 yards, 16 touchdowns, and three interceptions, paired with over 300 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. According to Rivals, Johnson is currently positioned as the 29th-ranked prospect in the 2027 class, the 5th-ranked quarterback, and the 4th-ranked prospect in Georgia. Steelers coach admits Aaron Rodgers is tough on receivers — but welcomes the challenge
Aaron Rodgers is known for demanding perfection of wide receivers, but Steelers WR coach Zach Azzanni isn't backing down from it — he welcomes the challenge. Speaking to ESPN's Brooke Pryor, Azzanni explained why he doesn't just tolerate Rodgers intensity with the receivers — he embraces it: "I love that challenge," Azzanni said. "I like that. I'd rather have someone that's dialed into the detail in the perimeter, and those guys ultimately have to be on the same page. I understand that he's hard on receivers, and I like that because I'm hard on receivers." Arguably, the most infamous example of his demanding nature was evident in his public criticism of then-Jets WR Mike Williams for running the wrong route — which led the wide receiver taking subtle jabs at the quarterback on social media. Former Super Bowl champion DE Chris Long warned that DK Metcalf could find himself in Rodgers' crosshairs if he can't meet his expectations — but clearly, Azzanni is excited for the opportunity for his receivers to be held to a higher standard. Chaney Johnson inks deal with Cleveland Cavaliers, becomes fourth Tiger to join the NBA
Johnson becomes the fourth member of the Final Four squad to land an NBA deal. Another member of Auburn's Final Four squad has signed an NBA contract. Chaney Johnson, who was known for being a stellar support for Johni Broome during his time at Auburn, has landed a deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Johnson signed an "Exhibit 10" deal with the Cavaliers, meaning that Johnson will make the minimum salary on a one-year contract and will have the chance to earn a roster spot during training camp and the NBA Summer League. Johnson started in just five of the 73 games he played in two years at Auburn, but his impact goes greater than his bench role. Johnson averaged 7.0 points during his time in Auburn, shooting 54% with 4.2 boards per contest. He took a giant step forward last season by scoring 9.1 points and securing 4.9 rebounds per game while shooting 56% from the field. His energy and production ensured that Auburn never skipped a beat once star forward Johni Broome exited the floor. Johnson joins Johni Broome, Miles Kelly, and Dylan Cardwell by signing NBA deals this week. Broome was drafted in the second round of the NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, while Kelly and Cardwell signed two-way contracts with the Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento Kings, respectively. The only downside to Johnson signing with Cleveland, however, is that he misses out on being teammates with former Tiger Isaac Okoro. Okoro was traded Saturday to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Lonzo Ball.
