ATLANTA (AP) — Zach Neto had three hits, including a homer, Nolan Schanuel added a two-run blast and José Soriano allowed only three hits in seven scoreless innings to lead the Los Angeles Angels to a 5-1 victory over the weak-hitting Atlanta Braves on Thursday night.
The Braves avoided a shutout on Jurickson Profar's ninth-inning homer off left-hander Brock Burke. It was Profar's second homer in two games since returning from an 80-game PED suspension.

Soriano (6-5) had seven strikeouts and did not allow a baserunner to reach second base. Neto scored three runs.
Bryce Elder (2-6) gave up four runs on eight hits and three walks in five innings. Elder's third consecutive loss is a disturbing trend for a team that placed right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach on the 15-day injured list with a fractured right elbow on Wednesday.
The rotation previously lost Chris Sale (broken rib), AJ Smith-Shawver (Tommy John surgery) and Reynaldo López (shoulder surgery) to injuries. Manager Brian Snitker said he may use a bullpen game Saturday in the second game of a series against Baltimore.
Key moment

After allowing 10 runs, nine earned, and three homers in only two innings in a 13-0 loss to Philadelphia on Friday night, Elder gave up two more homers. Schanuel's two-run shot in the second drove in Neto, who doubled.
Key stats
Matt Olson's first-inning single to right field extended his streak of reaching base to 33 games, the majors' longest active streak. Jo Adell's first-inning single extended his hitting streak to 14 games, the Angels' longest this season.
Up next
The Angels open a series at Toronto on Friday night when RHP Kyle Hendricks (5-6, 4.66 ERA) faces Blue Jays LHP Eric Lauer (4-1, 2.60).
Braves right-hander Spencer Strider (3-6, 3.86) will face former Atlanta right-hander Charlie Morton (4-7, 5.63) in the home series opener against the Orioles.

Georgia hits new 2026 recruiting claim after landing No. 1 DL

The post Georgia hits new 2026 recruiting claim after landing No. 1 DL appeared first on ClutchPoints. Georgia football finds itself in a competitive arms race during June. The Bulldogs are trying to out-recruit countless of programs despite not holding the No. 1 overall ranking. But they hit a new college football recruiting claim Saturday. Advertisement The Bulldogs swooped up the nation's best defensive lineman James 'J.J.' Johnson Saturday. Johnson spurned Southeastern Conference rivals Texas, Florida plus Atlantic Coast Conference power Miami for Georgia. He adds a new star trench man for head coach Kirby Smart. But Johnson's commitment handed Georgia this new accolade. Per Hayes Fawcett of On3. 'Georgia is the only school to land TWO No. 1 Ranked Recruits at their respective positions in the '26 Class,' Fawcett shared. The other No. 1 recruit for UGA is the nation's top quarterback Jared Curtis. The QB even tried courting No. 1 tackle Jackson Cantwell before he chose Miami. He's the state of Florida's 10th best overall prospect by 247Sports. The 6-foot-3, 285-pound defensive tackle landed 43 different scholarship offers. The standout from Miami area powerhouse Northwestern High brings impact written all over him. Director of scouting for 247Sports Andrew Ivins wrote a glowing take of Johnson in his prospect evaluation. 'Explosive defensive tackle with all the fixings to make a living up front. More of a one-gap player than he is a two-gap player at this stage, but has the mass to dock in the middle,' Ivins wrote. Advertisement He added how Johnson added 25 pounds of frame to help prepare for his senior season. Johnson also impressed Ivins with his 'raw' upper body strength. Lastly, Johnson brings an impressive 82-inch wingspan over to Athens for the future. Johnson heads to a place that's been on a tear with developing trench stars. Georgia watched Jalen Carter dominate offensive linemen and quarterbacks for the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. The Bulldogs also just produced the 11th overall pick of the NFL Draft Mykel Williams. Georgia football lands 4-star WR over 3 SEC rivals

The post Georgia football lands 4-star WR over 3 SEC rivals appeared first on ClutchPoints. Two months ahead of the 2025 college football season, Georgia landed its next major class of 2026 recruit. Kirby Smart continued the never-ending recruiting process by adding four-star receiver Craig Dandridge to the Bulldogs' evolving offense. Advertisement Dandridge committed to Georgia over offers from Tennessee, Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia Tech and Stanford, On3 Sports' Hayes Fawcett reported. The athletic wideout is rated as the 38th-best wide receiver prospect of the class by 247 Sports. Upon landing in Athens, Dandridge will be a part of Georgia's new offensive era. The Bulldogs' current top wideouts — Zachariah Branch, Dillon Bell, Noah Thomas and Colbie Thomas — are all expected to leave after the 2025 season. Georgia's current group of young receivers includes four-star freshmen CJ Wiley, Talyn Taylor and Landon Roldan. Three-star prospects Tyler Williams and Thomas Blackshear are also competing for snaps. Craig Dandridge joins Georgia football's class of 2026 Joshua L. Jones / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Dandridge is only the latest recruit to join Georgia's 2026 college football recruiting class. The Bulldogs' incoming class is currently a top-three group in the country, led by five-star quarterback Jared Curtis. Advertisement Coming off a disappointing 2024 season, Smart has been active in recruiting during the 2025 offseason. Georgia has not let off the gas, seemingly obtaining a new high-profile recruit every few days. While the hype for the 2026 season is already high, Georgia will have to get through a challenging 2025 season. After losing quarterback Carson Beck in the transfer portal, the Bulldogs have a massive question to answer under center. They are currently slated to have former backup Gunner Stockton take over, despite how poorly he played in Beck's stead in the 2024 postseason. In addition to Beck, Georgia also lost defensive stars Mykel Williams, Jalon Walker and Malaki Starks, who were all taken in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Offensive linemen Dylan Fairchild and Tate Ratledge also departed, along with running back Trevor Etienne. The draft departures added to the Bulldogs' transfer portal losses, setting up substantial changes on both sides of the ball. Georgia nabs commitment from 2026 4-star over Ohio State

The post Georgia nabs commitment from 2026 4-star over Ohio State appeared first on ClutchPoints. Georgia football is ending an epic June by topping Ohio State for a four-star recruit. The Bulldogs secured one more college football recruiting win before the calendar flips to July. Advertisement Georgia landed elite 6-foot-4, 260-pound defensive lineman PJ Dean Monday. Hayes Fawcett of On3 shared the Buckeyes were in the final running. So was Georgia's Southeastern Conference rival South Carolina. But Dean fired off this message after committing. 'A dawg always finds his way home,' he shared via Fawcett. Dean adds to a fast-growing 2026 recruiting class in Athens. Again, head coach Kirby Smart and his staff are aggressively putting a bow on their '26 class for the summer. Especially with universities everywhere getting the green light to host official visits in June now. Georgia grabbed new accolade on recruiting trail Joshua L. Jones / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images The Bulldogs and Smart's staff hit a new accolade during the final weekend of June. Advertisement James 'J.J.' Johnson arrived to Georgia Sunday before Dean's decision. Johnson enters the class as the nation's top-ranked defensive lineman. But that handed UGA this new claim per Fawcett. 'Georgia is the only school to land TWO No. 1 Ranked Recruits at their respective positions in the '26 Class,' Fawcett posted on X (formerly known as Twitter). That's because quarterback Jared Curtis became the first five-star pledged to Georgia. Curtis chose the Bulldogs in May. However, one SEC rival caught up to the Bulldogs on the five-star end. Alabama now boasts a national-best three five-star commits as of Monday. Xavier Griffin boosted the Crimson Tide class by choosing 'Bama Sunday. The linebacker even heads to Tuscaloosa as a former USC commit. But Griffin additionally becomes an in-state loss for Smart and and the Bulldogs — because he hails from nearby Gainesville, Georgia. Advertisement But Georgia is still putting together stout results on the trail. Including beating Texas and Michigan for four-star Chace Calicut. Fellow four-star wide receiver Craig Dandridge turned down three SEC rivals for the Bulldogs.
