'Squid Game' Hits #1 on Netflix with Release of New Season—But Wait'll You See Its Confusing Rotten Tomatoes Score
Season three of Squid Game has finally arrived, and once again, it has fans and critics on Rotten Tomatoes divided despite the season instantly hitting the number one spot on Netflix. The popular show about a life-or-death competition, which has been a hit since the premiere of its first season, debuted its final season to mostly positive reviews, with an 82 percent Tomatometer rating, but the audience rating is a bleak one, sitting at a tough 50 percent—or 2.9 out of 5 stars—on the Popcornmeter. The official synopsis for the third season is described as "Seong Gi-hun and the players fighting for survival in ever-deadlier games." And while critics and audience members seemed to agree that the first season was nearly flawless, it's been much more complicated from there, as season two received a fresh 82 percent on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer, but a dull 63 percent—or 3.4 out of 5 stars—on the Popcornmeter, making the audience rating for this third season even worse. This divide is further reflected in the reviews posted on the platform, which are largely positive. On the opposite end, the audience members are much more critical. "Squid Game Season three is a mess. It doesn't explain anything that was left hanging in season two, and the main character's decisions are confusing and inconsistent. This season lacks a proper conclusion, leaving more questions than answers," writes one member. Another adds, "Squid Game season three feels like a shadow of its former self. Unlike the gripping pace of seasons one and two, this one drags, with slow storytelling and little payoff." Netflix PureWow's VP of News and Entertainment, Philip Mutz, had this to say before the premiere of season three, "I was beyond ready for the arrival of the second season. But then came the fan reactions. Audiences weren't as into it for a variety of reasons, and its Popcornmeter (AKA viewer) score on Rotten Tomatoes sat at a dismal 63 percent. This was almost enough to keep me from diving into the sophomore season…but I'm so glad I dove in anyway." While it certainly looks like viewers of the show's latest season have mixed feelings, I'll be tuning in soon so I can judge for myself. The True Story Behind Trainwreck: The Cult of American Apparel
American Apparel's motto used to be "Ethically Made—Sweatshop Free.' But in a new documentary, former employees say the clothing brand, which became the go-to place for hipster chic clothes in the mid- to late- aughts, operated pretty much like a sweatshop. Trainwreck: The Cult of American Apparel, a 54-minute doc out July 1 as part of Netflix's series on disasters in recent history, looks at the rise of the brand and its decline in influence amid allegations of inappropriate behavior and oppressive conditions in the workplace. Here's a look at the most shocking revelations about what it was like to work at American Apparel. Sewing discontent When American Apparel launched in 1989, it was supposed to represent the American dream. It proudly boasted clothes made in the U.S., and employees made well over minimum wage. And it had a star-studded clientele. A former employee who goes by Jonny Makeup in the doc says he would close the store for Beyoncé to go shopping. As American Apparel became known for its cheeky advertisements, which often featured women in solid colors and provocative poses, like upside down with their legs outstretched—employees in the doc argue that behind the scenes, founder Dov Charney encouraged sexually explicit behavior in the workplace and routinely violated boundaries. New hires at the American Apparel factory say they received a welcome gift bag that included a vibrator, in addition to a book called The 48 Laws of Power, a Leica camera, and a Blackberry—so they would always be on call. According to the doc, it was not uncommon to see employees making out in the hallways of its downtown LA factory. The doc even shows footage of Charney walking around naked in front of two female employees. The toxic environment was not contained to American Apparel's walls. The doc starts off with an employee named Carson saying Charney called him up close to midnight one night and said 'I hate you! I hate you!' over and over again, and then hung up. 'That was a regular day at American Apparel,' says Carson, who reveals he sometimes had to work 36-hour shifts. Coming apart at the seams Employees in the doc say they were disturbed by how much business Charney wanted to conduct in his private home. Jonny Makeup says he actually lived in his boss's house, arguing in the doc that Charney invited him and he wasn't going to pass up an opportunity to live in such luxurious digs. Young women were always hanging around the house, so much so that Jonny describes it as 'a Playboy mansion for hipsters.' Toni Jaramilla, an employment and civil rights attorney, talks about working with women who say they experienced sexual harassment while working for Charney at American Apparel. Because they had already signed agreements to not say anything disparaging about Charney and American Apparel, each complaint was sent to confidential arbitration. However, some allegations have leaked into the public domain, and the doc uses a voice actor to read excerpts, describing Charney inviting people as young as 18 years-old to his bedroom and walking around in a towel in front of employees. As allegations mounted, so did Charney's verbal attacks on his own employees, and the doc features audio snippets of him calling them morons and dummies. Charney has denied all allegations, but he was fired in June 2014. American Apparel, which is still exists online, filed for bankruptcy in 2015 and 2016. Charney ended up getting a job with Kanye West's clothing brand Yeezy. The doc ends with archival footage of him saying, 'I'm not sorry about sh-t.'

Netflix Will Livestream NASA Rocket Launches — Starting This Summer
NASA+ live programming will stream ad-free on Netflix globally starting this summer. Artist's ... More concept. The countdown is over. NASA announced earlier today that it will be providing its NASA+ programming service on Netflix. Rocket launches, astronaut spacewalks, mission coverage and live views of Earth from the International Space Station will all form part of the content available the industry-leading subscription streaming service. Although NASA stated that the move would begin 'starting this summer,' neither the agency nor Netflix provided a specific date. However, NASA did confirm that the move would be global, stating that 'Netflix reaches a global audience of more than 700 million people.' Netflix had 300 million paid memberships in March 2025. The news was previewed yesterday by Netflix on X (Twitter). What Is NASA+? NASA+ isn't new. It launched as a standalone, free streaming service in 2023 as an upgrade to NASA TV. It hosts content from active missions, research labs and the ISS, as well as archive footage and documentaries. Nor is this an exclusive content deal. Although Netflix will provide a feed from NASA+, the service will remain available at no cost and ad-free via the NASA app and on the agency's website. (Photo by SpaceX via Getty Images) 1958 Space Act 'The National Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958 calls on us to share our story of space exploration with the broadest possible audience,' said Rebecca Sirmons, general manager of NASA+ at the agency's headquarters in Washington. 'Together, we're committed to a Golden Age of Innovation and Exploration – inspiring new generations – right from the comfort of their couch or in the palm of their hand from their phone.' In a press release, NASA added that its goal with the Netflix deal was to 'bring the excitement of the agency's discoveries, inventions, and space exploration to people, wherever they are.' What To Expect From NASA+ The main attraction for most Netflix users will be the chance to watch rocket launches from Cape Canaveral — typically SpaceX Falcon 9 launches taking astronauts to the ISS, as well as the return of crew members via parachute. Viewers will also get real-time science briefings, behind-the-scenes mission prep and live broadcasts from astronauts on the ISS. It's not clear when NASA+ will debut on Netflix, but the next rocket launch is scheduled for 3:32 p.m. EDT on July 3, when Roscosmos plans to launch an ISS Progress 92 cargo capsule from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Wishing you clear skies and wide eyes.
