The gripping, emotive tale of Dom Phillips and Bruno Pereira's disappearance: best podcasts of the week
This six-episode Guardian podcast opens with evocative descriptions of dense Amazonian jungle teeming with macaws, jaguars and howler monkeys. But the pastoral beauty soon gives way to fear, as we hear about the disappearance of environmental journalist Dom Phillips and Brazilian Indigenous defender Bruno Pereira in a tale that pits them against the forces that run one of the world's biggest drug-smuggling routes. This gripping investigation tries to get to the bottom of what happened and, given that it's hosted by Phillips's friend, the Guardian's Latin America correspondent Tom Phillips, does so in a movingly personal manner. Will AI steal all our jobs? Could Terminator-style robots overthrow humanity? These questions don't just feel loaded but arguably a little hoary by now. It's a good job, then, that it is Richard Ayoade and Warwick Davis picking over them with effortlessly amusing and often (in Ayoade's case) deeply dry observations. Helen Keen adds some science writer cred, as they gaze into the future of food, relationships, holidays and more. Hannah J DaviesAudible, all episodes available now
Rebecca Root and Seán Carlsen star in a found-footage indie drama from Fio Trethewey and Georgia Cook, who have previously written Doctor Who audio adventures. This updated take on Dracula with a queer twist is brilliantly inventive while also keeping Bram Stoker's cast of characters front of mind. Katy Perry 'unintentionally isolated' as she skips Jeff Bezos wedding amid split
Katy Perry was notably absent from Bezos' wedding while Orlando Bloom was in attendance - now a relationship expert shares the best ways to cope with losing friends post-breakup All eyes were on Venice last weekend as former Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos tied the knot with former journalist Lauren Sanchez (now Lauren Bezos) in front of a star-studded guest list. However, there was one absence that was particularly noted. Pop singer Katy Perry was not among the famous faces decorating the aisle – despite having recently gone into space with Lauren on Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin rocket. Although Katy was performing her Lifetimes Tour in Australia that weekend, her absence still caused speculation – especially seeing Orlando Bloom was in attendance after the pair's alleged split. Katy and Orlando had one of the pop-world's most talked-about romances. The pair met in 2016 at a Golden Globes afterparty and quickly hit it off, eventually making their relationship official in May 2016. However, the relationship hit rocky waters when the pair temporarily split up in 2017. They then reunited and got engaged on Valentines Day, 2019 and a year later, Katy confirmed that she was pregnant with Orlando's baby. The pair were set to be wedded in Japan early 2020, until Covid hit, and they were forced to postpone. In summer 2020, they announced the birth of their first daughter. However, five years on and the pair are allegedly no longer together after a decade of dating. A source told US Weekly: "Katy and Orlando have split but are amicable.' Their last sighting together was March 2025 at the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscar Party. New bride Lauren mentioned how much she missed Katy on social media. Under a series of Instagram pictures posted by Katy's account on June 27 showcasing highlights from her Australia tour, Lauren commented: 'We miss you Katy.' Of course, whether Orlando's presence had any bearing on Katy's absence from the nuptials remains in question. But, still, it's got the Internet talking: how do you deal with losing friends after a breakup? While a wedding can make these relationship fractures more glaringly obvious, the problem can arise even when organising group hangouts or dinner parties. Most of us have experienced the painfully awkward decision of choosing between two friends to invite, particularly in the aftermath of a messy breakup. Hope Flynn is a relationship expert and the founder of So What? She reassures people that feeling hurt and conflicted is completely normal: 'Losing friends after a breakup is more common than people realise and it can come as an unexpected second wave of grief. 'When you've shared a social circle with your ex, friends can feel unsure how to navigate the change and some may distance themselves while others unintentionally take sides.' However, as hurtful as a friend's absence may be, it's important to remember that it's 'not always malicious.' Hope adds: 'Often people simply don't know how to show up during these emotional transitions and the result can feel isolating for one of the exes. 'That being said, this period often reveals which friendships are truly rooted in connection and care. While some relationships may quietly fade, others will deepen and that clarity can be a gift.' Plus it can also give you some much needed me-time. Hope continues: 'It's also an opportunity to reconnect with yourself outside the relationship and to begin building a network of friends that reflects who you are now, not just who you were as part of a couple.'

Protesters behind viral Jeff Bezos dummy unveil real meaning behind their stunt
The creators behind the viral Jeff Bezos dummy has revealed the reason why they pulled the eye-catching stunt ahead of the billionaire's wedding to Lauren Sanchez Billionaire Jeff Bezos ' Venetian wedding to Lauren Sanchez has been an event defined by celebs, a multi-million-pound budget and – most of all – hijinks. Now the creators behind the viral protest has revealed the meaning behind it. The protest group Konn Artiss were responsible for the creation of the Jeff Bezos dummy, which went viral after they pushed it into one of the Venetian canals online. In an iconic video which quickly spread online, a hapless-looking dummy of the billionaire can be seen clinging onto an Amazon package, with wads of cash clutched in his hands. This came with other similarly eye-catching stunts by the group, such as rowing down the canal with dummies of both Jeff and Lauren in their wedding outfits. Notably, the dummy of Jeff on the boat held a piece of cardboard with 'Amazon' stamped on it. The video gained over 344K views on TikTok and was played to the tune of comedic singer Bo Burnham's hit, 'Bezos I.' Commenters called for Amazon boycotts and praised the use of humour in the video. One said: "Boycott Amazon!!! I haven't missed it at all," while another added, "Bravo to the Italians." Although, not all reactions were supportive. Under a clip of the dummy being pushed into the water on X, reactions were mixed. While some praised the group for their stunt, with some commenters accusing the protesters of being 'jealous' and 'rude'. Others expressed that they didn't understand the motive behind the protest. 'I appreciate the Bezos hate, but I don't understand the protest,' one wrote. However, in a recent TikTok, the anonymous protest group said that their intention wasn't to ruin or disrupt Bezos' wedding – but rather to raise awareness for a greater issue. They wrote: 'This was never about Bezos… It was about balance. "I didn't do it to ruin a wedding… And I don't believe Bezos lost any sleep over it. I did it because the world only looks when… Something breaks the pattern.' By pattern, it appears they were attempting to do something eye-catching and out-of-the-ordinary to bring attention to issues around wealth inequality. Help us improve our content by completing the survey below. We'd love to hear from you! Konn Artiss are a collection of 'merry misfits' that have likened themselves to a Robin Hood-like figures. On their web page, they claim: 'Konn challenges societal norms through provocative stunts and striking installations, consistently highlighting inequality and advocating for positive social change.' Ahead of the wedding on Friday, Konn Artiss told Metro: 'We are not protesting love, we are protesting luxury without accountability. It is a spectacle of excess when we live in a time when the gap between the richest and poorest is getting bigger.' They also pointed out that Venice is a working class city, where the working class 'cannot pay their bills'. Yet they say Jeff Bezos is allowed to behave as though he is 'a Roman Emperor.' Their protests came off the back of other demonstrations, such as that by Greenpeace and UK political campaign group "Everyone hates Elon". Ahead of the wedding, they unfolded a giant banner in central St Mark's Square, Venice, with a picture of Bezos laughing and a sign reading: "If you can rent Venice for your wedding you can pay more tax." Local police later rolled up the banner, as reported by Reuters.

£15 collapsible water bottle that 'doesn't leak' is perfect for holding drinks during TRNSMT
Shoppers can easily chuck this bottle into their bag when not in use without it taking up too much space. With festival season well and truly upon us, it is important to make sure that everyone stays hydrated. While everyone will be having a blast listening to their favourite artists, the days can also consist of a lot of standing in large crowds. This can be tiring for many, especially if the sun is out and temperatures rise. Therefore, being able to quickly grab a drink if needed is crucial to help people last through the day. However, many people don't want to be carrying around a heavy water bottle all day. To combat this issue, Amazon is selling a Collapsible Water Bottle for £14.99. This lightweight bottle can easily be thrown into a bag when not in use as it can be folded down into a compact size that will take up little to no room. For people attending TRNSMT this year between July 11 and July 13, the festival does have some rules for what can be brought into the grounds. Festival goers are able to bring water bottles, however they need to be empty upon arrival. The website states: "Soft collapsible water bottles or folding pouches are permitted on site. Please ensure these are empty upon arrival and you don't bring hard plastic, glass or metal bottles." This means shoppers would be able to take the collapsible water bottle with them to the site and then fill it up with water for many of the free water filling stations available.
