Pistons Could Pivot to 2 Players After Naz Reid's Offseason Decision
The Detroit Pistons took the NBA by storm last season. They went from a bottom-table team to a playoff squad in just one offseason.

Cade Cunningham's ascension into stardom, making his first All-Star team in his young career, certainly led the way, but there was a culture change in Detroit.
The Pistons are building an identity, which head coach JB Bickerstaff has helped create.
Now, the organization's focus will shift. It's not purely development, though that aspect won't go away.
Identifying core players and making moves to add the proper complementary players is much-needed as the Pistons aim to continue to get better and prepare to climb towards title contention.
The offseason is here, too. With the NBA Draft having come and gone, the next step of the summer is free agency, which begins in just a couple of days.

One early target for the Pistons was going to be Naz Reid, a Minnesota Timberwolves big man. On Friday, Reid signed a long-term contract extension with his team, pulling him off the board.

The Pistons will have to pivot their offseason priorities now, and there are two names that stick out early, according to Jake Fischer.
Detroit could look into acquiring Nickeil Alexander-Walker or Santi Aldama.
After the Timberwolves paid Reid, they'll struggle financially to retain all of their free agents. If they let Alexander-Walker go, the Pistons will have the salary cap room to land the young wing.
Aldama is a great shooter from the Memphis Grizzlies and would provide great floor spacing for Cunningham and the Pistons.

With the Grizzlies being aggressive early in the offseason, they could aim to find more complementary pieces to Jaren Jackson Jr. and Ja Morant, making it less likely they'll pay Aldama.
Again, finances could be the reason Detroit has a chance at the two role players, and they certainly have the salary cap room to make the moves to land additional talent.
The Pistons were the No. 6 seed last season and played a competitive first round against a talented New York Knicks team.
In a now wide-open Eastern Conference, the Pistons are right to build around what worked last year and improve as a team, even if they have to spend some of the cash on hand.

Dan Hooker targets Arman Tsarukyan for UFC return: 'I'd just like to kick his teeth in'
LAS VEGAS – Good news for MMA fans: Dan Hooker has a timeline for his octagon return. The fan-favorite UFC lightweight is recovering well from his hand injury and expects to be fighting again sometime in October or November, Hooker told MMA Junkie Radio at UFC X. Hooker was scheduled to fight Justin Gaethje earlier this year at UFC 313 in March, but he fractured his hand in training and was forced to withdraw from the bout. Hokker is almost in the clear, and is eager to fight again. Advertisement "I think I'll be good to go in October, November," Hooker said. "I think Gaethje is just going to sit and wait for another title shot. It would be silly to come and fight another contender, but that's what's so interesting about the division now. The title is moving, and over the next couple of months there's going to be a lot of movement in the division. It's good." Hooker expects Gaethje to sit out and campaign for a title shot against the newly crowned UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria, making the re-booking of their fight unlikely, at least for the time being. Ideally, Hooker woould like to fight Arman Tsarukyan, also a top contender in the division. "Arman has been calling me out, and that's the No. 1 contender," Hooker said. "No one likes the guy, so I'd just like to kick his teeth in." Tsarukyan is one of the tougher fights in the division, and considered by many the best grappler in the weight class. When asked why he'd want such a tough stylistic matchup, and likely less exciting than the Gaethje fight, Hooker had quite the response. Advertisement "I don't give a f*ck," Hooker said. "Mine was exciting, the (Mateusz) Gamrot fight, because I was able to get up. If they can just hold you down and make it a boring fight, then that's my fault. But because my counter-wrestling is of that level and people just can't hold me down, and I'm able to scramble up to my feet, that's what makes the fight exciting." Gonzalo Garcia's header powers Real Madrid past Juventus 1-0 and into Club World Cup quarterfinals
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Breakout tournament star Gonzalo García scored his third goal of the Club World Cup to power Real Madrid past Juventus 1-0 in the round of 16 on Tuesday afternoon and into the quarterfinals. García has started all four of Real Madrid's matches because of a gastrointestinal illness to star striker Kylian Mbappé. The 21-year-old broke a second-half tie with a header in the 54th minute, giving him a goal contribution in every match of the tournament. García subbed out in the 68th as Mbappé checked in , making his Club World Cup debut after he was briefly hospitalized with the illness. He missed Real Madrid's three group stage matches. García's header Tuesday came after Real Madrid had forced Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio into consecutive spectacular saves in the opening minutes of the second half. It was an incredible performance from the Italian goalie, whose 10 saves kept the match close. It was a scoreless and evenly contested first half, the first time either team had been held without a goal in the opening half of a match in the tournament. Both sides had chances, including Randal Kolo Muani's effort that went over the bar seven minutes in and Federico Valverde's shot that was denied by Di Gregorio before the end of the half. But Real Madrid overwhelmed Juventus in the second half, finishing with 11 shots on target to 2. There were loud cheers from the 62,149 fans at Hard Rock Stadium when Mbappé came into the game. Many were wearing his jersey and yelling 'Mbappé! Mbappé!' Real Madrid will face the winner of Tuesday night's match between Borussia Dortmund and Monterrey, on Saturday at MetLife Stadium for a spot in the semifinals. ___ AP soccer:
