French Police Arrest Moroccan Doctor Suspected of Wife's Murder

Morocco World4 days ago
French authorities arrested a Moroccan doctor on July 29 on suspicion of killing his wife, a fellow physician who disappeared under mysterious circumstances in Fez two weeks ago.
Three days after the victim's mysterious disappearance, investigators discovered her body buried in the garden of her husband's home located in the Ouled Zbair area near Taza.
The 39-year-old victim disappeared on July 14, shortly after leaving her workplace at the regional health delegation in Fez.
Investigators tracked her cell phone's location data, which led them to her husband's house in the Ouled Zbair commune.
Meanwhile, blood traces on her husband's car, which investigators found in his garage just before he fled to France, designated him as the primary suspect.
Investigations took into consideration material and technical evidence, leading the prosecutor's office at the Fez Court of Appeal to issue an international arrest warrant against the husband.
Reports indicate that the couple experienced severe tensions and complications in their relationship in recent months, stemming from persistent personal conflicts.
The investigation also established that the murder took place in Fez, before the perpetrator transported the body over 125 kilometers to the rural area of Ouled Zbair, in what appears to be a deliberate attempt to cover up the crime.
In the meantime, Moroccan judicial authorities are coordinating with their French counterparts to complete the suspect's extradition procedure, to be subject to murder charges, including premeditated murder and concealment of a corpse, according to the Moroccan justice system.
Led by the prosecutor's office, the investigation focuses on analyzing phone data and biological evidence. The couple's circle has given testimonies, aiming to clarify all aspects of this heinous crime that has deeply shocked public opinion all over Morocco. Tags: FezFranceMoroccan arrestedmurder

Moroccan lawyers denounce «procedural violations» in Achraf Hakimi rape case

The Club of Lawyers in Morocco has denounced «serious violations of procedural rights guaranteed under a fair trial» in the handling of the case involving Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi, who faces rape allegations in France. In a statement issued on Saturday, the association argued that the proceedings have fallen short of the «guarantees provided by Article 6 §1 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and the preliminary article of the French Code of Criminal Procedure, particularly in terms of expediency, objectivity, and the presumption of innocence». Citing what it describes as a «case conducted under media pressure», the Club of Lawyers noted that «the investigation was launched based on a simple statement, without a formal complaint, medical certificate, or the complainant's immediate willingness to cooperate». In the absence of forensic evidence, the association questioned the thoroughness of the inquiry, especially given that «nearly two and a half years elapsed between the initial indictment and the final charges, in violation of the principle of reasonable time». In this context, the association recalled the European Court of Human Rights' stance that «justice delayed is justice denied». This statement comes as the footballer's legal team has reaffirmed its commitment to proving his innocence. According to elements of the case reported in the French press, text messages exchanged between the complainant and one of her friends suggest the possibility of premeditation. The events date back to February 2023, when a 24-year-old woman alleged she was sexually assaulted by Hakimi at his home in Boulogne-Billancourt. She subsequently visited the Nogent-sur-Marne police station to provide a brief statement but did not file a formal complaint. On March 3, 2023, Hakimi was officially indicted on charges of rape.

Hospital Nurse Reportedly Charged in Paris Suburb Child Abuse Case

A 26-year-old nurse from a hospital in suburban Paris reportedly faces charges for sexual assault on minors after authorities discovered videos involving infants, prosecutors announced Saturday. The woman also faces charges for creating and distributing child pornographic images in a case that broke after viral videos spread on TikTok. She worked in the neonatal intensive care unit for premature babies at Montreuil Hospital, north of the French capital. The incidents occurred between December 2024 and January 2025, according to prosecutors in nearby Bobigny. The hospital has suspended the nurse from her duties. The nurse turned herself in to police Wednesday evening. She blamed a 28-year-old man with whom she had a relationship, claiming he controlled her actions. Prosecutors charged the man as an accomplice to sexual assault, believing he orchestrated the crimes. A judge placed both suspects under judicial supervision, despite prosecutors' request to hold them in custody. TikTok videos sparked investigation The case came to light after several TikTok videos warned about 'a scandal at a hospital' in the area. In one video that received over 1.4 million views, a man claimed 'two people who work with babies are having fun mistreating Black children' and described the abuse as sexual in nature. The man in the video called for people to 'take to the streets to deliver street justice.' Prosecutors clarified that race played no role in the crimes, noting that 'one child is white, the other Black.' Investigators have identified two victims from the videos so far. Hospital responds to crisis The viral rumors caused panic Wednesday and Thursday, with worried mothers calling the hospital after giving birth there up to a year ago, according to hospital officials. 'The actions of this nurse, if confirmed by the ongoing police investigation, represent a serious personal misconduct that the hospital firmly condemns,' hospital management said in a statement. 'These are in no way collective practices of the service.' The Grand Paris Nord-Est hospital group, which operates Montreuil Hospital, stressed that the alleged crimes were individual acts, not systematic problems within the facility. The investigation continues as authorities work to determine the full scope of the alleged abuse and identify any additional victims. Tags: child abuseFranceFrench nurse abuse infantssexual abuse

Hakimi: Moroccan Lawyers Say Case Violates Fair Trial Rights

A group of Moroccan lawyers has accused the French justice system of failing to guarantee a fair trial for footballer Achraf Hakimi, who is under investigation for alleged rape. In a statement released on Saturday, the Club of Lawyers in Morocco said the case involved 'serious breaches' of legal rights, including delays and lack of clear evidence. The group said the process ignored key parts of both French law and the European Convention on Human Rights, especially the rights to a quick and fair trial and the presumption of innocence. The lawyers criticised how the case was handled, saying it was driven by media pressure. They also noted that the inquiry began based on a verbal statement, without a formal complaint, medical report, or early cooperation from the woman involved. They added that the investigation had dragged on for nearly two and a half years between Hakimi's indictment and the final charges, which they say breaks the principle of reasonable delay. 'Justice delayed is justice denied,' the group said, quoting a European court ruling. Hakimi's legal team has also criticised the case, saying they plan to prove the player's innocence. Reports in the French press have pointed to private messages between the alleged victim and a friend, which suggest the meeting may have been planned differently than claimed. The incident dates back to February 2023, when a 24-year-old woman accused Hakimi of sexually assaulting her at his home in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris. She later went to a police station in Nogent-sur-Marne, but did not file a formal complaint. Hakimi was placed under formal investigation for rape on March 3, 2023. Messages found by investigators show the woman was texting a friend throughout the visit. She claimed she was being assaulted, but also said in her police statement that Hakimi 'was not violent.' Her friend came to collect her afterwards. Some messages sent before the meeting also raised questions. In them, the woman and her friend joked and referred to playing the role of a 'femme fatale.' One message said they were going to 'crack the codes' and 'rob him.' Hakimi's lawyer said these messages suggest a possible attempt to financially blackmail him. In his testimony, Hakimi said they kissed and laughed together, but that she made clear nothing more would happen. He said he respected that and that she continued using her phone during the meeting. 'She said nothing would happen the first night. I said OK,' Hakimi told investigators. Kylian Mbappé, Hakimi's former teammate, also gave a statement in his defence. He said Hakimi had always shown respect for women and that he had never heard any complaints about his behaviour. 'Even when drunk, I've never seen him act out of line,' Mbappé said. The case has sparked strong reactions online, especially in Morocco. Many fans have questioned the timing of the renewed attention, which came just days before the Ballon d'Or nominations were announced. Some believe it could be an attempt to damage Hakimi's public image. How did this all begin? The case began on February 24, 2023, when Hakimi met the woman after chatting on Instagram. She later told police he kissed her without consent but did not file charges. Hakimi was formally charged on March 3, 2023. Since then, the investigation has continued without a decision on whether the case will go to trial. The Nanterre prosecutor's office has not yet said what will happen next. French newspaper L'Équipe published several messages exchanged by the woman and her friend. Hakimi's lawyers say these show contradictions and possible intent to harm his reputation. The woman has reportedly refused to hand over all her messages. So far, no physical evidence has been made public. Tags: afconBallon D'orCAFFranceHakimiMoroccorape
