This UP Farmer's Guava-Papaya Formula Is Turning His Fields Into Gold
The Pink Taiwan guava, known for its sweet aroma and deep pink flesh, is considered superior and commands nearly double the price of regular guava in the market A farmer from Uttar Pradesh has achieved remarkable success in sustainable agriculture. Anup Rai, from Pakdi village in Ghazipur district, has set an inspiring example by blending modern techniques with organic farming. He is practising mixed cropping by growing the Pink Taiwan variety of guava alongside the Pusa Nanha variety of papaya. Recently, District Horticulture Officer Ashish Kumar visited his farm and praised his efforts. According to Kumar, Anup Rai has planted over 100 guava trees, each already yielding 5 to 6 kg of fruit within just 6 to 7 months. The fruits weigh more than 500 grams each and are of excellent quality. The Pusa Nanha papaya variety has also started bearing fruit in just four months. The Pink Taiwan guava, known for its sweet aroma and deep pink flesh, is considered superior and commands nearly double the price of regular guava in the market. It is low in seeds, larger in size, and highly sought after. A staunch advocate of chemical-free farming, Anup Rai has not used any pesticides or chemical fertilisers. Instead, he relies on natural pest control methods such as neem oil, pheromone traps, sticky traps, and light traps. This has significantly reduced input costs and improved fruit quality. His farm remains largely free from pests, even during the monsoon, when fruit borer attacks are common. Currently, Pink Taiwan guava fetches Rs 60 to Rs 100 per kg in the market, whereas regular guava sells for just Rs 20 to Rs 30 per kg. Its demand is particularly high in urban fruit markets, hotels, and among organic fruit vendors.
