Apple might launch new Macs, iPads, iPhones and Display in 2026: Report
New Delhi
Apple could be lining up a major refresh across its key product categories in the first half of 2026. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the company is preparing updates for the iPhone, iPad, MacBook lineup, and even plans to bring out a new external display for Mac users.
What to expect in early 2026
Several products are reportedly in development for release in the first half of next year:
A new MacBook Pro powered by Apple's upcoming M5 chip. This will likely be the final version with the current design, before Apple switches to OLED screens and new outer casing in a future model.
A refreshed MacBook Air, although specific changes are yet to be revealed.
An updated iPad Air with the M4 chip, but no major design changes expected.
A new entry-level iPad with a faster processor, again without significant design upgrades.
A new iPhone 17e running on the A19 chip, expected to continue the design language of the iPhone 16e.
A new Mac external monitor, which would be Apple's first since the Studio Display launched in 2022. Technical details are still under wraps, but Gurman suggests it could feature a higher-resolution panel, possibly 7K.
What's next?
A separate product — Apple's long-rumoured smart home display — has reportedly been delayed. The device was originally expected to launch in 2025, but its rollout is now uncertain. According to the report, the delay is due to its reliance on Apple's in-development AI system, which has not fully launched yet.
If things go to plan, the smart home device could still see a release sometime in 2026, but nothing is confirmed at this point.
Additionally, Apple is reportedly preparing a major expansion of its extended-reality (XR) lineup between 2025 and 2028, with multiple new wearables in the pipeline, including a lighter and more affordable Vision Air headset, smart glasses, and XR glasses with built-in displays. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the roadmap includes an M5-powered Vision Pro by late 2025, followed by mass production of smart glasses and Vision Air in 2027, and a second-generation Vision Pro and XR glasses with displays in 2028.

China's Unitree Robotics offers a humanoid robot for under $6,000
The startup, among the frontrunners in Chinese robotics, on Friday announced its R1 bot with a starting price of 39,900 yuan (or $5,900) Bloomberg By Bloomberg News Unitree Robotics is marketing one of the world's first humanoid robots for under $6,000, drastically reducing the entry price for what's expected to grow into a whole wave of versatile AI machines for the workplace and home. The startup, among the frontrunners in Chinese robotics, on Friday announced its R1 bot with a starting price of 39,900 yuan (or $5,900). The machine weighs just 25kg and has 26 joints, the company said in a video posted to WeChat. It's equipped with multimodal artificial intelligence that includes voice and image recognition. The four-figure price tag highlights the ambitions of a new generation of startups trying to leapfrog the US in a groundbreaking technology. Unitree rose to prominence in February after CEO Wang Xingxing joined big names like Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.'s Jack Ma and Tencent Holdings Ltd.'s Pony Ma at a widely publicized summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The new robot's launch coincides with China's biggest AI forum, set to kick off this weekend with star founders, Beijing officials and AI-hungry venture investors converging in Shanghai. The World Artificial Intelligence Conference will bring together many of the key figures expected to drive China's efforts around AI, which is finding a physical expression in the rapid development of more humanoid robots. After decades of dominance by American companies like Boston Dynamics, Chinese companies are pushing ahead with humanoids for factories, households and even military use. Pricing is crucial to their proliferation. Unitree's older G1 robot, which found a home in research labs and schools, was priced at $16,000. A more advanced and larger H1 model goes for $90,000-plus. Rival UBTech Robotics Corp. said recently that it planned a $20,000 humanoid robot that can serve as a household companion this year, seeking to expand beyond factories. If it works as advertised, Unitree's new robot would mark a milestone for the robotics industry, particularly when it comes to complex humanoids. Morgan Stanley Research estimates that the cost of the most-sophisticated humanoid in 2024 was around $200,000.

Dutch regulator delays Apple ruling amid EU talks on App Store: Report
Dutch antitrust watchdog, the Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), has delayed its decision on Apple over fees charged to dating app providers on the App Store. According to a report by news agency Reuters, the regulator said that it is waiting for the outcome of ongoing discussions between Apple and the European Commission on a similar issue before moving forward. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now According to ACM, Apple recently changed its fee structure in response to those talks and has said it plans to make further adjustments later this year. The regulator had previously ruled that Apple abused its dominant market position by imposing unfair conditions on dating app developers. That decision was upheld by a Dutch court in June, which found that the company's practices in the App Store violated competition laws. The ACM has not provided a new timeline for its final ruling. The ongoing talks between Apple and the European Commission are expected to influence how both EU and national regulators handle competition issues related to the App Store in the future. In a related news, Reuters recently reported that Apple's updates to its App Store rules and fees are likely to get approval from EU antitrust regulators soon. Citing people familiar with the matter, the report said that this could help the Cupertino-based company avoid large daily fines. Last month, the iPhone maker said that developers will soon be required to pay a 20% processing fee for purchases made via the App Store. For Apple's small-business program, the fees could go as low as 13%.

The order mandates that AI developed for federal use align with traditional American values and steer clear of politically sensitive ideologies. In a widely read essay later turned into a book, Nicholas Carr argued that tools like search engines have diminished people's ability to think critically or retain knowledge. While users still need to interpret search results, Carr warned that reliance on such technology could erode deeper cognitive skills.
