What is NIL Go, and why is it the latest subject of debate among college sports leaders?
Before him, more than 200 college athletic administrators shift to the front of their seats. For months now, they've been waiting for this moment.

'I'm Karl,' the man says, 'with Deloitte.'
Karl Schaefer is a young man with perfectly cropped hair, a sharp grin and slender frame. He is here to lead a 40-minute presentation on the single most talked-about concept of college athletics' new revenue-sharing era: the Deloitte-run clearinghouse dubbed 'NIL Go.'
Though it remains unsaid by those in power, the goal of NIL Go is quite clear: prevent booster payments to athletes that, for four years now, have been masquerading as commercial and endorsement deals.
As Schaefer flips through slides of the NIL Go software system, for the first time revealed publicly, whispers within the room build to murmurs. Attendees capture slides with photos. Some video the entire event. Others scribble notes on a pad.
How Deloitte and the new enforcement entity, the College Sports Commission, plan to prevent booster pay is the target of much criticism and fascination — plenty of it shrouded in secrecy for the last many months.

In central Florida, at an annual conference of administrators this week, the shroud was at least partially lifted. Not only was the platform's interface shown on a giant projection screen during Schaefer's presentation — including the six-step submission and approval process — but, in interviews with Yahoo Sports or during other public presentations, college sports executives who helped craft the system answered questions that, up to this point, had remained unanswered.
While many doubt that the clearinghouse will withstand inevitable legal challenges, administrators here provided legitimate reasons for why they believe in its long-term survival. Most notable of those, says NCAA president Charlie Baker, is that the clearinghouse's appeals process — arbitration — is equipped with subpoena powers.
'They do have that power,' Baker told Yahoo Sports this week. 'Arbitration typically has subpoena power and I'm pretty sure since this one sits inside an injunction, they will have it.'
Officials at the power conferences confirmed that 'significant subpoena powers' exist under the arbitration appeals process, but those powers are less expansive than subpoena authority within a courtroom. The decision to use subpoena powers and how exactly to use them — limited or broad — is expected to rest with the arbitrator presiding over the appeals process.

A subpoena compels individuals or entities to produce evidence under penalty of law, such as turning over text messages, emails and phone call logs as well as testifying before investigators. It is one of the more important tools for officers of the law, such as police investigators — and something that was never available to the NCAA enforcement staff.
'We won't have complete subpoena power, but if an athlete goes into arbitration … those records, you can get access to some of those records,' said Ohio State athletic director Ross Bjork, who is a member of a settlement implementation committee that helped construct the new enforcement entity.
'It's going to be a new day.'
The algorithm
Back in the Deloitte presentation room, Schaefer is explaining the submission process for NIL Go. Athletes are required to submit third-party NIL deals of $600 or more using a web-based submission system, not unlike an online registration system for, say, a passport.

Shaefer explains, gesturing toward a giant projection screen, that the clearinghouse makes three determinations once a deal is submitted:
Is the third party an 'associated entity' with the university, such as a booster, or a business contracted with a school like a university sponsor or apparel brand? If so, more intense scrutiny is applied in the vetting process. Public companies can, and many of them will, be deemed as associated entities.
Is the deal for a 'valid business purpose?" The third-party business, brand or individual must be receiving true value from the activities, such as an autograph session, television commercial or speaking engagement.
Is the deal within Deloitte's 'range of compensation' paid to similarly situated individuals? This is perhaps the most criticized of the concepts. Deloitte created 'the range of compensation' through an algorithm using fair market value analysis, comparing similar types of NIL deals struck between an athlete and the third party.
More is now known about that algorithm.
Clemson athletic director Graham Neff, one of the implementation committee members, details the factors used to form a compensation range: 'Athletic performance is a big part of it. Your social media reach and following. Market — where schools are at. The reach of your school within said market.'
This will vary by school. Neff offers an example. 'The reach of Georgia Tech in Atlanta is different than the reach of Georgia State,' he says.

Neff believes that a 'majority' of NIL deals will derive from 'associated companies,' as school sponsors, multi-media rights partners and individual alumni and boosters work to provide universities with additional compensation so they can exceed the $20.5 million revenue sharing cap that each school is afforded. Third-party NIL compensation that passes the clearinghouse does not count against the cap.
Even those who helped craft the new enforcement entity acknowledge that the system is attempting to do a very difficult thing: bring regulation to an enterprise that has, for four years now, seen little to no regulation or enforcement of athlete compensation.
'There's some toothpaste back in the tube a little bit given the environment,' Neff said.
For example, Deloitte officials claim that 70% of past deals from booster collectives would have been denied in their algorithm, while 90% of past deals from public companies would have been approved. Deloitte has also shared with officials that about 80% of NIL deals with public companies were valued at less than $10,000 and 99% of those deals were valued at less than $100,000.

These figures suggest that the clearinghouse threatens to significantly curtail the millions of dollars that school-affiliated, booster-backed collectives are distributing to athletes.
'No one is trying to restrict someone's earning potential, but what we're trying to say is, 'What is the real market?'' Bjork says. 'Everybody you talk to about the pro market will tell you that NIL deals for pro athletes are really small. In the collective world, we created a false market.'
Denial, approval and arbitration
Displayed on the giant screen before hundreds of athletic administrators is the six-step clearinghouse submission and approval process.

Step 6 lays out the process for a player if his or her deal is denied by the clearinghouse because it either is not struck for a valid business purpose or it does not meet the compensation range.
(1) Revise and resubmit the deal so that the compensation amount falls within the algorithm's range. For instance, if the clearinghouse deems that a submitted $1 million deal should be $500,000, the athlete can resubmit for $500,000 and the school, if it so chooses, can compensate the athlete for the other $500,000 through its revenue-share pool.
(2) Cancel the deal completely.
(3) Request arbitration as an appeals process.

(4) Accept the rejected deal as is. In this case, the athlete 'may face enforcement consequences (e.g., loss of eligibility),' the Deloitte presentation slide reads.
According to settlement terms, attorneys for the plaintiffs (the suing athletes) and defendants (NCAA and power conferences) will work together to select a neutral arbitrator or arbitrators to preside over these cases. Individual arbitration processes are expected to last no more than 45 days.
In an interview last fall, plaintiff lawyer Jeffrey Kessler described the arbitration as a trial-like set of hearings in front of an arbitrator — the new enforcement entity on one side (NCAA and power conferences) and the athlete on the other side.

How an arbitrator rules may 'depend on what evidence' each side produces, Kessler said. As Baker and others have noted, that evidence may now be generated through limited subpoena power.

But one lingering question remains: Will an athlete's school fight alongside him or her in the case? 'I expect that if the athlete pursues it, the school will support the athlete and help provide the athlete with counsel to help represent them in that challenge,' Kessler said.
Penalties for NIL violations
Implementation committee members say they are finalizing a 'menu' of penalties for those found to commit violations within this new revenue-sharing era, most notably those found to have (1) circumvented the cap with old-fashioned cheating or intentional or accidental miscalculations; and (2) tampered with another college athlete or prospect who is under contract.
Officials decided against using a set penalty matrix as the NCAA currently does (Level I, Level II, etc.). Instead, they are providing the new College Sports Commission CEO, Brian Seeley, with the flexibility to choose penalties from a wide range of options, depending on the individual circumstance.

'Those penalties being worked through are going to be significant and are going to be different than any penalties we've had previously,' said new Michigan State athletic director J Batt, a member of the implementation committee.
An example of a new kind of penalty is a reduction in transfers that a school can acquire from the portal, Bjork says. But there are others. A postseason ban remains among the penalties, said Desiree Reed-Francois, the Arizona athletic director and implementation committee member.
There are also stiff fines — multi-million dollars in value — that may be levied against schools, administrators and coaches. Suspensions, for coaches and administrators, are on the penalty menu as well.
'The fines are substantive,' Reed-Francois says.

One penalty is off the table. Administrators say that reducing a school's revenue-share pool for subsequent years is not permitted. The settlement guarantees that schools are afforded the same revenue share pool.
Pushback
The clearinghouse has made its way to the U.S. Capitol.
During a congressional hearing over college sports on Thursday, Rep. Lori Trahan, a Democrat from Massachusetts, chided college leaders for instituting a new enforcement process that 'guarantees people in power always win and the athletes who fuel this multi-billion dollar industry always lose.'
One of the witnesses in that hearing, Ramogi Huma, the executive director of the National College Players Association, chimed in as well, accusing the NCAA and conference leadership as wanting to 'shut down boosters' ability to pay players just to monopolize it' themselves.

College executives reject these notions and consider all of these elements — even the new enforcement process — as protected by a legally binding settlement. The new enforcement entity was not created by committee members in some 'backroom,' Bjork says. The implementation committee only provided structure to an enforcement piece that is 'codified' within the settlement.
'There are processes here that have been approved by the court and the plaintiffs and the defendants that people are going to be expected to follow,' Baker told Yahoo Sports. 'Given so much of what's been going on in the third-party space hasn't been accountable or transparent, and has made a lot of people outside of college athletics a lot of money, I can understand why there might be some grumpiness about this.'
Soon, power conference schools — and others opting into the settlement — are expected to sign an affiliation or membership agreement. With this binding document, schools waive their right to sue over enforcement decisions and commit to settlement terms, even if their state laws contradict them.
The agreement — itself the subject of legal concerns, even from some schools — is an indictment on an industry of stakeholders that, for competitive reasons, are constantly scrambling to bend, break and shatter rules to gain even the slightest edge.

Earlier this week in Orlando, members of the implementation committee publicly implored schools to follow rules.
'This has to be a mindset change,' Bjork told the audience. 'We see all the reports and naysayers, that 'we're going to go back to old-school cheating and all these things and that this is not going to work.' This has to work.'
'This will work if we make it work,' Reed-Francois said. 'We need to shift our mindset and make this work.'
Can it be done? But what if athletes decide not to submit any of their third-party deals at all?
'People will be turning in people,' Reed-Francois said. 'There's a lot more `transparency now.'

Back in the convention hall, Schaefer, from Deloitte, is winding down his presentation. He thanks the crowd before beginning to walk off the stage.
From among the crowd, a few raised hands emerge. Folks have questions.
Others in the audience remind the hand-raisers of something announced before the presentation began: The Deloitte employees are not taking questions.

The tragic death of Aidan Zingg
Aden Keefer first became aware that one of his friends was hurt when he accelerated out of a hairpin turn during a motocross race last Saturday in Mammoth Lakes, Calif. 'Aw, dammit,' Keefer recalls thinking when he roared past Aidan Zingg lying limp and motionless on the back section of the course, not far from his green Kawasaki dirt bike. Advertisement At first, Keefer assumed Zingg would walk away from the crash, that the 16-year-old rising star had simply skidded out and smacked his head. Then Keefer circled the track again and noticed that Zingg still hadn't moved. Then he came around again and saw that emergency personnel had begun administering chest compressions. 'That's when I was like, 'Oh s—,'' Keefer said last Sunday during an episode of 'Keefer Tested,' a motocross-themed podcast hosted by his dad. Zingg died Saturday from injuries sustained during his crash, a tragedy that has devastated the teenager's friends and family and shaken the tightnit motocross community. Just under a year ago, Zingg won his first-ever American Motorcyclist Association national championship in the Supermini 2 class and took second place in the Supermini 1 division. He parlayed that into an offer to ride big bikes for Kawasaki's Team Green, a factory-supported program that has helped launch the careers of numerous professional racers. The bewildering part of Zingg's death is that exactly how it happened still remains unclear. Video of the incident hasn't publicly surfaced. Eyewitness accounts are scarce — and conflicting. Advertisement TMZ and many other media outlets cited a report from that Zingg 'went down in a corner' and was 'run over by multiple bikes.' A race official granted anonymity by Yahoo Sports adamantly disputed that, citing conversations with riders who were behind Zingg and the characteristics of the section of the course where he crashed. Other riders unanimously said they didn't see anyone strike Zingg from behind after he wrecked, the race official said. The race official also described where Zingg went down as one of the gentlest and widest parts of the Mammoth Motocross course, far from any blind turns or landing spots for jumps. 'In this section of the track, riders of this caliber are not going to hit somebody,' the race official said. 'There was plenty of room for everybody to get around and not hit him. And he didn't have any physical marks indicating that he had been struck.' While the Mammoth Lakes Police Department is investigating Zingg's crash and the cause of his death, Sergeant Jason Heilman declined to reveal what had been uncovered so far. Heilman told Yahoo Sports that he can't provide 'any additional information as it's still an active investigation and we're still trying to piece together what happened.' Advertisement Whatever the reason for Zingg's crash, the timing is especially cruel. This was a top amateur motocross prospect on the verge of a pro career, an unusually driven 16-year-old with his whole life in front of him. 'He has the skill and the work ethic to be one of the greatest,' motocross trainer Dimitri Rolando told Yahoo Sports. Then Rolando apologized for his use of present tense. 'Sorry, but I can't talk about Aidan in the past yet.' (Aidan Zingg/Instagram) From underdog to class of the field Born in the Southern California motocross mecca of Murrieta, roughly 80 miles east of Los Angeles' beaches and bright lights, Aidan Zingg grew up on two wheels. His grandpa rode dirt bikes. His dad rode dirt bikes. So at age 6, Aidan followed their lead. Advertisement In one of his first Instagram posts as a 7-year-old second grader, Zingg described himself as an 'aspiring professional motocross racer.' Another early post features a photo of young Zingg with a smudged nose after a day of riding in the hills behind his home with his dad Bob. 'Crashed like 37 times but had a blast!' the caption reads. The older he got, the more Zingg's obsession with motocross deepened. He enrolled in online classes by 2020 because public school conflicted with his training and race schedules. Bob Zingg also relocated the family to the town of Hemet, where they could afford a property large enough to build a supercross track in the yard. While Aidan Zingg qualified for every AMA national championships since he turned 10, for years he seldom ran at the front when facing top-tier competition. There were always kids in his age group who practiced longer hours, who took sharper lines, who had more powerful, better handling bikes. Advertisement The pressure on Zingg escalated after he finished a solid but unspectacular 9th and 11th at 2023 nationals in his first year riding minis. Zingg's family wouldn't be able to afford travel expenses or competitive equipment once he graduated from minis to bigger bikes. Either he'd have to land an offer from a major factory-supported team or his bid to compete at the highest levels of motocross would be over. 'It starts getting expensive with big bikes,' Zingg told the Grom Squad podcast last November. 'So if I didn't have a ride pretty much this year, racing would not continue for me.' The stress of that ticking clock and differing ideas for how to proceed caused father and son to start butting heads more often. Hoping that another perspective besides his own might help his son maximize his potential, Bob Zingg began searching for someone else to help coach and train his son. Enter Rolando, the rare motocross athlete who found success despite not seriously pursuing the sport until he was nearly 18. Early in Rolando's riding career, coach Yannig Kervella invited him to relocate from France, live at his house in California and train alongside some of the biggest names in the sport. By 2023, Rolando had transitioned to coaching in hopes of having the same impact on the next generation of racers that Kervella had on him. Advertisement The key to the partnership with the Zinggs, Rolando said, was that he was able to serve as a 'go-between' between father and son. As Rolando described it, 'The dad was part of the industry. He had a lot of knowledge. But dads coaching their own kids can be really hard. Aidan was 14 years old. He was starting to talk back. Sometimes there was a little bit of conflict.' With Rolando's guidance, Zingg spent more days at the track and at private training facilities preparing for his biggest races. Zingg also learned to train like a professional when he wasn't ripping across the dirt. That meant getting more sleep, improving his diet and committing to weight training and cardio work. While Zingg beat some of the best riders his age in Mammoth last summer, his ultimate test was the 2024 AMA nationals, annually held at Loretta Lynn's Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn. It was there where Zingg's aspirations of racing big bikes would blossom or fizzle, there where he had a chance to prove himself to the factory-sponsored teams. On the first day of practice, Zingg failed to take the proper lines on the course and his lap times were way off the pace. His dad was understandably concerned, but Rolando preached patience. Advertisement 'Calm down, he will follow the plan,' Rolando said. 'You will see, he's going to be good.' Over the next few days, Zingg was better than good. He was the fastest supermini class racer on the property. He finished fifth, first and first in three races to claim second place in the 12-to-15-year-old division. Then he took first, third and first in three more races to run away with first place in the 13-to-16-year-old division. 'That class that he won, it's the class that all the industry is looking at,' Rolando said. 'It's the next generation. Aidan didn't really know if he was that guy. He was always the underdog. So winning that race was a huge achievement for him.' Offers poured in from big teams last year after Zingg's big week at AMA nationals. The family chose Kawasaki's Team Green because they liked the terms of the contract, the quality of the bikes and the people running the operation. Advertisement On the day that his dad brought home his new green No. 39 Kawasaki 250cc dirt bike, Aidan Zingg immediately took it out to his family's backyard supercross track for a test drive. 'I was so excited to ride big bikes,' he told the Grom Squad podcast last November. 'I just threw my gear on and started riding.' (Aidan Zingg/Instagram) 'I've been crying ever since' Less than a year after that backyard joyride, Zingg was back on that same green Kawasaki dirt bike for last Saturday's 250cc class race in Mammoth Lakes. He was running near the front until disaster struck along the spectator-free back section of the fir and pine tree-lined course. Advertisement When a motocross rider gets knocked unconscious or sustains a broken bone, the race is often red-flagged immediately. In this case, other riders maneuvered around Zingg for 1-2 laps before the race was finally halted. Flaggers who are responsible for putting the race under caution after a crash got to Zingg quickly, according to the race official who requested anonymity. So did ski patrollers trained to respond to medical emergencies on the mountain, the race official said. The issue, according to the race official, was that they 'got caught up in helping Zingg versus calling for the red flag right away.' 'The medic guy realized he wasn't breathing, so the first thing he did was get the helmet off and start working on him,' the race official said. 'So they weren't calling for a red flag. They were immediately trying to do everything they could to save him.' While emergency personnel put Zingg onto a stretcher and loaded him into an ambulance, word spread about the severity of the incident. Before long, Rolando's phone began to buzz with ominous texts and social media posts from friends at the track. Advertisement The motocross trainer reached out to someone close to Zingg and said, 'Tell me it's not true!' A couple minutes later came the heartbreaking confirmation: Zingg was gone. 'I've been crying ever since,' Rolando said. Tragedies like this happen in dirt bike racing. Danger is inherent in the sport, especially as the bikes have gotten more powerful, the jumps and obstacles have gotten bigger and riders have gotten younger and more daring. Forty-year-old men and nine-year-old girls have died as a result of motocross accidents. So have teenage phenoms and X Games daredevils. And yet those in motocross circles say they can seldom remember a rider whose death has inspired a greater outpouring than Zingg's. Social media tributes have poured in this week from friends and family, from top pros to total strangers. Advertisement Professional racer Garrett Marchbanks wrote about the inspiring work ethic he witnessed from Zingg when training together. 'This news quite literally brought me to my knees as my entire body just went completely numb,' Marchbanks said. Amateur motocross prospect Vincent Wey recalled spending countless hours with Zingg as kids 'playing basketball during recess, building jumps, or talking s— to each other.' 'Losing you feels like a dream we can't wake up from,' Wey said. Alex Zingg, Aiden's older sister, wrote Sunday that even though it had only been a day, it felt like 'a lifetime.' 'You used to joke that I was so old and that I'd die first,' Alex said. 'I would always joke that you were crazy and you'd be the first. Now I'm sitting here wishing with everything that I am that you were right so I'd never have to live a day without you.' Advertisement Maybe the most meaningful tribute came from some of Zingg's fellow 250 cc class riders in Mammoth Lakes on Saturday. Nearly half the riders who finished Saturday's first race didn't start the second one, including Keefer, the winner of the first race. Keefer and Zingg first met as 10-year-olds with similar passion for motocross and grew closer even as they competed against one another. When Keefer learned that his friend had died, he and his family immediately packed up, left the Mammoth Lakes track and drove home. 'As a family, we decided, hey man, I could give two s— about your f— championship,' Keefer's dad, Kris Keefer, said on his podcast. 'It's crazy to think about how important this sport is to us and then something like this happens and how it's not important anymore.'

How will AI change the restaurant business?
But many feel unprepared to handle its implementation. That's according to a new survey from consulting firm Deloitte that asked hundreds of restaurant industry executives about their current use and future plans for AI. Overwhelmingly, respondents cited AI's potential to enhance the guest experience; to make a customer's time more enjoyable, comfortable, and memorable, as a top benefit of the tech. In fact, almost all—98%—operators in the survey said they expect a high impact on the customer experience in three years. AI is already showing up to help restaurant guests. It answers the phones, works the back office, and helps with marketing efforts. Eventually, it'll show up during table service. Plenty of restaurants are already using AI to their advantage; 8 in 10 industry leaders surveyed by Deloitte say they'll increase spending on the tech in the next year. Most of the survey's respondents work in quick service restaurants; nearly half work as franchise operators for larger brands. But that doesn't mean AI and its benefits are reserved for corporate restaurants. 'Big chains are usually first to test new technologies in the restaurant space, and AI is no different,' says Emma Blecker, a New York-based operations consultant. 'It makes sense, the tools are often built for them, and they've got the resources to spend on research and development, pilot programs, training, and rollouts. But that doesn't mean small operators are missing out.' For now, she advises, restaurants of all sizes can learn from industry early adopters, experimenting with new tech tools and ideas, like these: AI can handle the conversation According to Deloitte's survey results, less than 1 in 5 surveyed leaders use conversational voice AI—tech that can talk—in their restaurant's daily operations now. But they plan to; roughly a third are testing or piloting the tech, with another third planning or developing a conversational AI strategy. Voice AI can staff a drive-thru, taking orders and upselling to guests with smart add-ons—think: 'Do you want fries with that?' except instead of blindly suggesting a side of fries to every customer, it uses factors like their order, time of day, or even the weather to suggest something else. It can also answer their phone, providing diners with info on location, hours, reservations, and other details, a boon for busy restaurants, like perennial San Francisco favorite Flour + Water, which tapped a local service called Hostie to work the phones. It's already made guests and employees happier. 'We're finding that people walking in the door already have answers to some of the questions they'd walk in with prior,' says Amanda Flores, director of operations for the Flour +Water restaurant group. 'That means fewer people walk in frustrated and the host gets to spend more time with people that are stoked to be here with their questions already answered.' AI targets the right diners Restaurant software has long collected data on diners—average spend, visit frequency, dining preferences—and AI can help make sense of all the numbers. For example, a text-based feature from reservations and customer relationship management platform SevenRooms helps restaurants segment customers into target groups and generate text messages to invite them to special events, share new menu items, or offer same-day reservation nudges. Celeb-chef backed Fabio Viviani Hospitality group, an early product tester for SevenRooms, said the tech helped book 1,800 reservations and drove close to half a million dollars in revenue in six months. The group's chief marketing officer said the texts had a 98 percent open rate. About half of restaurant operators in the survey say they already see a high impact from AI-enhanced loyalty tech; another quarter think they'll see a high impact in three years. AI is coming to the table The case for AI at fast food and other casual restaurants is straightforward; it can make the experience faster, easier, and more pleasant for people on both sides of the transaction. But integrating technology into full-service dining is a trickier proposition; even the best bots can't replace warm, in-person hospitality. But it can certainly help, and a new generation of devices has the potential to enhance human service. Plenty of companies are working on new, hands-free devices—pins, glasses, earpieces—though transformational change is likely years away. (Jony Ive, the longtime Apple design exec and architect of the iPhone, recently sold his new company to OpenAI with vague promises to right the iPhone's wrongs, moving our eyes from screens to reality.) In fact, it's already being tested. Yum China, the Shanghai-based parent company of American brands KFC, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut and also the largest restaurant company in that country, just debuted a hands-free AI assistant for some of its KFC restaurant managers. They wear earphones and smart watches wired to process language and offer help, from inventory reminders to real-time troubleshooting. It's a pilot program, but the point is to help employees look up from screens and better interact with the physical world in front of them. Still, practicalities might slow progress. In Deloitte's survey, less than a third of industry leaders said their business's tech and talent are ready to implement big AI-related changes. In a recent conversation, Kelly Esten, chief marketer for restaurant point of sale company Toast, declined to speculate on how soon transformative new hardware might arrive at America's restaurants. McColgan prodigy Tait sets sights on Olympics
Not only does Scottish track athlete Sarah Tait boast Eilish McColgan as one of her mentors but she also has taken one of her records. The 24-year-old broke McColgan's 12-year Scottish record in the 3000m steeplechase at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) competition in Oregon last month. Advertisement Her form earned her a place on the Great Britain team for the European Athletics Team Championships, where she finished second in the same event on her international debut. Now Tait, who came through at Lasswade Athletics Club but is based in the United States, has set her sights on next year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and a first Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028. "I went to watch some of my teammates in Paris last year and I thought it was absolutely amazing what they were doing," Tait told BBC Scotland. "I would love to be there one day, but I didn't think quite how realistic it would be and then just this year I am like: 'Do you know what, I am actually really close'. Advertisement "In a few year's time, I definitely believe that will be possible." "I have this new found belief in myself and that is definitely credit to my training group in the US and my training partners as well." McColgan 'always there for me' Tait was the first recipient of McColgan's 'Giving Back to Track' programme, which was set up three years ago to help young women make their way in athletics. After plenty of support and encouragement, Tait says breaking her mentor's record was something she had targeted for a while. "Eilish has supported and mentored me for a good few years now and she always said she thought I would be the one who would take her record down," she revealed. Advertisement "Eilish really took me under her wing. I am still in touch with her now, we still go back and forth. She always sends me a congratulations message, she is always there to support me and I am really grateful for everything she has done for me." Having just completed her studies at West Virginia University, Tait admits she is "still figuring things out" in terms of where she is going to base herself as she prepares for next summer's Commonwealth Games, which she says is her "priority". As a 13-year-old, Tait went to watch the athletics at Hampden Park when the games last visited the city in 2014. "I just can't wait to hopefully be a part of it and be part of inspiring the next generation because that was me sitting in the stands watching - so I really hope that can be me on the start line this time," she added.
