JAKE Wood raked in more than £2million during his break from EastEnders - and it wasn't from TV work.
Earlier this year The Sun revealed actor Jake, 52, will reprise his role of womaniser Max Branning in EastEnders.

But it seems it's not the money drawing him back to the BBC One soap as Jake earned a serious amount of money on his break.
Figures for his Murray & Wood Company show that he earned a fortune for leaving the BBC 1 soap.
Figures show that for 2022, he had cash reserves of more than £200,000 and a Corporation Tax bill of £169,151, meaning his earnings for that year were around the £1m mark.
And over 2023 and 2024, he paid company tax of £230,000 – pointing to earnings for £1.1m over those two years.
Since Max was last seen in Walford in 2021, Jake has launched a popular podcast series, starred to great acclaim in West End play 2:22: A Ghost story and landed money-spinning panto roles.
Today Jake broke his silence after it was confirmed he's making his way back to Albert Square.
Max will return briefly later this autumn just four years after leaving the show, while his permanent return is scheduled for later in the year.
Jake said: 'I'm over the moon to be coming home to Walford.
'Max has got lots of unresolved drama with many characters, so I'm sure he'll be busy
'I'm excited to see what he's been up to, and what is next for the character, but if his last 15 years in the Square are anything to go by, I'm sure there will be plenty of chaos.'
Huge EastEnders star to QUIT soap after four years 'to look for other opportunities'
The BBC soap is also welcoming back Max's son Oscar, with Pierre Moullier taking over the role.
A source told The Sun earlier this year: 'It is an exceptional bout of casting - Pierre looks more like a younger Jake than Jake did himself. It's uncanny.
'He's going to bring something new to Oscar and the character will definitely set the cat amongst the pigeons in the Square."

Corrie fans taken aback as character is unexpectedly recast after 9 years

Coronation Street fans were left surprised watching last night's episode of the ITV soap, as a new face appeared. In the instalment that focused on Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton) breaking out of prison, the murderer made his way to Weatherfield High School to look for daughter Joanie. There, multiple children came across a furious and desperate Mick, who wandered through the corridors in search of his child. The character made eye contact with teens, including Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) and a young girl – who many audience members didn't recognise. The student was actually Lily Platt, David's (Jack P Shepherd) daughter. What took fans by surprise was that a new star is now playing the character, meaning they weren't instantly able to identify her. Lily was born in 2013 and was played by Ava and Lilly Bushell, and then Betsie and Emmie Taylor. In 2016, Brooke Malonie took over the role. She played her for nine years. Yesterday's instalment saw Grace Ashcroft-Gardner's first scenes as Lily, and the character effectively having a new head left plenty of people stunned! Taking to social media platform X, this fan of Corrie wrote: 'They've recasted Lily?! They kept that quiet. #Corrie.' 'Is that David's Lily? When did they change her #Corrie', another wrote, echoing the shock. 'Hang on… is that Lily, David & Shona's Lily???', this user noted. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? In the episode itself, Mick left the school shortly after learning Joanie was no longer attending for her taster day. More Trending Charging into the factory to find her, he held Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) and Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) hostage in the office. Luckily, Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) had been tipped off about his escape and followed suit. A huge argument escalated, and then Mick became aware that Joanie had been smuggled onto the roof by Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor). Racing up the staircase, Kit's behaviour then turned physical in a bid to stop him. Punches were thrown, and then a knife was produced. EastEnders confirms Oscar Branning's sexuality as fans rave about newcomer

This article contains spoilers for Tuesday's first episode of EastEnders, which airs tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One or can be streamed now on iPlayer. EastEnders has confirmed Oscar Branning's (Pierre Moullier) sexuality during a conversation with his uncle Jack (Scott Maslen). The newcomer burst onto our screens yesterday, having been released from a three-month stretch in a young offenders for joyriding. His sister Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) begrudgingly took him in, less than enthused by the fact that Oscar's associates tried to petrol bomb their mum Tanya's (Jo Joyner) house upon realising he'd tipped off the police about their actions. He also became reacquainted with Ian and Peter Beale (Adam Woodyatt and Thomas Law), whom he hadn't seen since his childhood. From the moment Oscar laid his eyes on Peter, he became an unstoppable force of flirtation. From nicknaming him 'Hot Pete' to promising not to watch him in the shower, exclaiming 'smash' as soon as he saw him, and telling Lauren that he wouldn't sleep with her fiancé, Lauren's little brother instantly made quite the impression. Then, in tonight's episode, he woke up naked on the sofa and invited Peter to join him. Utterly outrageous, but the fans are totally here for it. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 'I think he's going to bring trouble to Lauren's door but he was pretty amusing – made a change from all the doom and gloom,' said Metro reader Nikki on Facebook. 'Finally we had a bit of a giggle watching!' added Sarah. Donald agreed: 'At last, some relief from the misery.' Later, Oscar sat down with Jack, who was hoping he would calm his chaotic ways after noticing him flirting with Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James) in the cafe. 'I didn't think she was your type… she's a girl, isn't she?' probed Jack. It was then that Oscar confirmed he 'swings both ways, innit.' He had a girlfriend before his time in youth offenders, but decided he was more attracted to her dad. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Who's leaving Coronation Street? And – echoing the opinion of viewers across the land – his uncle replied: 'You're a chip off the old block, ain't ya.' More Trending Of course, as fans know so well, Oscar's dad, Max Branning (Jake Wood), is quite the womaniser, and pretty much slept his way through Albert Square during his initial 15-year stint. 'When does a young gay (/bi?) character ever turn up happy with their sexuality right out of the gate?' wrote Jack on X. Mark agreed, writing: 'Exactly – I loved the way he immediately started on the flirting with Peter, they should keep that as a running gag. The stuff with Ian was really funny too.' Midsomer Murders star Daniel Casey's exit explained as he returns as detective

As Midsomer Murders continues to be a hit, some fans may be wondering why Daniel Casey left the show - but he is now set to return in a new role in a stage adaptation ITV's beloved series Midsomer Murders is treating fans to a nostalgic trip with reruns starring Daniel Casey, who became a household name as Gavin Troy, DCI Tom Barnaby's (John Nettles) original sidekick. He left the show in 2003 but made a brief return for Cully's (Laura Howard) wedding in season 11. ‌ Fans are still mourning his exit as he became one of the murder mystery show's most iconic characters. ‌ Speaking to Saga magazine, Casey revealed his departure was about seeking new challenges. He said: "I was just aware I didn't want to stay with the same thing for too long and I wanted to branch out." Despite moving on, he fondly remembers his time on the show, especially working with Nettles: "I had a fantastic time," he reminisced. ‌ "John and I got on really well, from the first day really." Post-Midsomer Murders, Casey, now 53, has graced other popular soaps including EastEnders, Doctors, Casualty, Coronation Street, and Emmerdale, reports the Express. ‌ In a thrilling twist for fans, reports from May 2025 indicate that Casey will be returning to the world of Midsomer Murders, not on screen but on stage, in 'The Killings at Badger's Drift', where he'll intriguingly step into the shoes of Tom Barnaby, not as his former character Gavin Troy. In a recent chat with Norwich Theatre, the actor shared his astonishment at returning to the Midsomer universe: "I never expected to revisit the world of Midsomer, with its weird and wonderful characters and all their dark, twisted secrets." He expressed his excitement about taking on a new challenge: "So to be asked to play the iconic role of Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby in this new stage adaptation of The Killings at Badger's Drift was a real surprise." Further reflecting on his past experiences, he added: "It has brought back some wonderful memories of such a happy time in my career playing Sgt Troy and the fantastic time I had working with the amazing John Nettles and to be stepping into his shoes as Barnaby is both a little daunting and incredibly exciting."
