But it seems it's not the money drawing him back to the BBC One soap as Jake earned a serious amount of money on his break.
Figures for his Murray & Wood Company show that he earned a fortune for leaving the BBC 1 soap.
Figures show that for 2022, he had cash reserves of more than £200,000 and a Corporation Tax bill of £169,151, meaning his earnings for that year were around the £1m mark.
And over 2023 and 2024, he paid company tax of £230,000 – pointing to earnings for £1.1m over those two years.
Since Max was last seen in Walford in 2021, Jake has launched a popular podcast series, starred to great acclaim in West End play 2:22: A Ghost story and landed money-spinning panto roles.
Today Jake broke his silence after it was confirmed he's making his way back to Albert Square.
Max will return briefly later this autumn just four years after leaving the show, while his permanent return is scheduled for later in the year.
Jake said: 'I'm over the moon to be coming home to Walford.
'Max has got lots of unresolved drama with many characters, so I'm sure he'll be busy
'I'm excited to see what he's been up to, and what is next for the character, but if his last 15 years in the Square are anything to go by, I'm sure there will be plenty of chaos.'

The BBC soap is also welcoming back Max's son Oscar, with Pierre Moullier taking over the role.
A source told The Sun earlier this year: 'It is an exceptional bout of casting - Pierre looks more like a younger Jake than Jake did himself. It's uncanny.
'He's going to bring something new to Oscar and the character will definitely set the cat amongst the pigeons in the Square."

The newcomer burst onto our screens yesterday, having been released from a three-month stretch in a young offenders for joyriding. His sister Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) begrudgingly took him in, less than enthused by the fact that Oscar's associates tried to petrol bomb their mum Tanya's (Jo Joyner) house upon realising he'd tipped off the police about their actions. He also became reacquainted with Ian and Peter Beale (Adam Woodyatt and Thomas Law), whom he hadn't seen since his childhood. From the moment Oscar laid his eyes on Peter, he became an unstoppable force of flirtation. From nicknaming him 'Hot Pete' to promising not to watch him in the shower, exclaiming 'smash' as soon as he saw him, and telling Lauren that he wouldn't sleep with her fiancé, Lauren's little brother instantly made quite the impression. Midsomer Murders star Daniel Casey's exit explained as he returns as detective
As Midsomer Murders continues to be a hit, some fans may be wondering why Daniel Casey left the show - but he is now set to return in a new role in a stage adaptation ITV's beloved series Midsomer Murders is treating fans to a nostalgic trip with reruns starring Daniel Casey, who became a household name as Gavin Troy, DCI Tom Barnaby's (John Nettles) original sidekick. He left the show in 2003 but made a brief return for Cully's (Laura Howard) wedding in season 11. Fans are still mourning his exit as he became one of the murder mystery show's most iconic characters. Speaking to Saga magazine, Casey revealed his departure was about seeking new challenges. In a recent chat with Norwich Theatre, the actor shared his astonishment at returning to the Midsomer universe: "I never expected to revisit the world of Midsomer, with its weird and wonderful characters and all their dark, twisted secrets." He expressed his excitement about taking on a new challenge: "So to be asked to play the iconic role of Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby in this new stage adaptation of The Killings at Badger's Drift was a real surprise." Further reflecting on his past experiences, he added: "It has brought back some wonderful memories of such a happy time in my career playing Sgt Troy and the fantastic time I had working with the amazing John Nettles and to be stepping into his shoes as Barnaby is both a little daunting and incredibly exciting."
