UAE advancing as global AI hub, says NVIDIA Regional Executive
DUBAI (WAM)Ahmad Jamal, Regional Director of Artificial Intelligence Solutions at NVIDIA, affirmed that the UAE has made significant strides in establishing itself as a regional and global hub for artificial intelligence (AI). He noted that the country has transitioned from the phase of investing in infrastructure and technologies to a stage of achieving returns and productivity on both economic and technological levels.In a statement to Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the Dubai AI Festival, Jamal highlighted that the UAE has launched the UAE Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031, which aims to increase AI's contribution to 14% of the country's GDP. This reflects a genuine shift toward a knowledge-based economy and embodies the ambitious vision of the UAE's wise leadership.He explained that the Abu Dhabi government is working toward achieving 100% implementation of AI technologies in government entities by the year 2027. The strategy also aims to generate up to Dh24 billion in GDP from the AI sector over the next few years.Jamal added that the UAE was among the first countries to adopt a comprehensive approach to AI technologies, beginning with the establishment of the world's first Ministry of Artificial Intelligence in 2017 and the appointment of the first minister for this future-oriented technology. This laid the groundwork for rapid developments that have placed the UAE among the leading nations in the field.He emphasised that the UAE is not only building advanced digital infrastructure but is also developing a fully integrated cybersecurity framework. He pointed to the launch of a Cybersecurity Center of Excellence in collaboration with Google as a key example.
Jamal also noted that the world is currently witnessing a qualitative shift from generative AI to Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), and that the Dubai AI Festival is seeing the launch of a new AI model developed entirely in Dubai and set to be released globally. This underscores the UAE's pioneering role in shaping the future of artificial intelligence.

Family businesses vital driver of national economic growth: Marri
The UAE continues to adopt a forward-looking vision to enhance the regulatory and legislative frameworks governing family businesses in the country. This vision aims to foster sustainable growth, ensure long-term viability, and strengthen the sector's contribution to national economic competitiveness both regionally and globally. The Ministry of Economy and Tourism played a key role in issuing the world's first comprehensive and pioneering legislation dedicated to family businesses: Federal Decree by Law No. (37) of 2022 concerning the Family Businesses. The law aims to ensure business continuity through legal mechanisms and structured procedures, support diversification of business activities, ease generational transition, and encourage expansion into advanced sectors, particularly the new economy. The Ministry has also issued four ministerial resolutions under which a unified registry for family companies was established. This registry currently includes more than 15 registered family firms. It also governs family business charters, share buy-back mechanisms, and the issuance of multiple classes of shares. In statements to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Abdullah Bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, emphasised that the UAE, guided by its wise leadership, has prioritised the creation of an advanced legislative environment to promote the growth and sustainability of family businesses over the coming decades. He highlighted that family businesses are a vital driver of national economic growth and a pillar of the UAE's long-term vision to build a future-ready economy. He reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to advancing this vital sector through continued efforts and active collaboration with stakeholders. These efforts align with the 'We the UAE 2031' vision, aiming to increase the country's GDP to Dhs3 trillion by the next businesses contribute approximately 60% of the UAE's GDP and employ 80% of the workforce. They also account for around 90% of private sector companies in the country. These businesses operate across a wide range of vital economic sectors, including the new economy, hospitality, retail, real estate, and construction. Family firms play a crucial role in diversifying the national economy. In Abu Dhabi alone, they represent 50% of the companies in the construction sector, 60% in financial services, 80% in wholesale and trade, and 70% in transportation. Globally, family businesses contribute around 70% of global GDP, making them responsible for more than two-thirds of global economic activity. They are also the largest employer worldwide, providing jobs to nearly 60% of the global workforce. Dubai's real estate brokerage sector recorded a remarkable performance in the first half of this year, reaffirming the pivotal role of brokers in driving market dynamism and supporting sustainable growth in property transactions. Real estate brokers contributed to the execution of 42,181 transactions, generating commission values exceeding Dhs3.23 billion in H1 2025, compared to Dhs1.62 billion in the same period in 2024, achieving a growth of 99% This increase in transaction volume is closely tied to the growing number of real estate brokers registered with the Dubai Land Department, which now stands at 29,577 brokers, including 6,714 new brokers who entered the sector in the first half of 2025. This momentum reflects the growing confidence in the profession and its rising role as a key partner in enhancing the attractiveness of real estate investment and guiding investors towards high-potential opportunities. Female participation in the real estate brokerage sector has increased significantly, with 10,100 women now actively working as brokers in the field. They contributed to the execution of 13,424 transactions, generating commission values of nearly Dhs1.43 billion. This reflects the growing influence of women in leading real estate deals, their ability to build strong professional relationships, and their impact on the market's overall dynamism. The role of real estate brokers extended beyond facilitating transactions; they served as a vital link between investors, developers, and buyers, contributing to enhanced transparency and enabling more informed decision-making. Brokerage and property valuation firms also played a key role in supporting market demand by providing integrated services. As of the first half of 2025, there were 1,223 registered brokerage offices and 78 property valuation offices employing 118 licensed valuers. On their part, the 2,426 registered real estate services offices continued to play a pivotal role in the sector. During the first half of the year, Real Estate Registrations and Services Trustees Offices facilitated 114,848 transactions, serving 86,398 customers, marking a 15% increase in the number of customers compared to the same period last year. The outstanding performance of the brokerage and valuation sector is one of the key pillars of Dubai's real estate market, reflecting the emirate's vision of fostering an investment environment built on public-private partnerships. By facilitating transactions and deals, professional brokers continue to reinforce investor confidence and contribute to enhancing Dubai's position as a leading global real estate investment destination.

28 July 2025 18:16 ABU DHABI (WAM) The UAE's Zayed Sustainability Prize, a pioneering global award that has transformed the lives of over 400 million people, has officially closed submissions for its 2026 awards cycle.A total of 7,761 entries from 173 countries were received across the six categories of Health, Food, Energy, Water, Climate Action, and Global High Schools, reflecting the Prize's continued role in advancing impactful solutions to pressing global in its 17th year, the Prize empowers small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), nonprofit organisations and high schools to develop and scale sustainable innovations that improve lives, especially in vulnerable and underserved clean energy and healthcare access to regenerative agriculture and safe drinking water, this year's submissions reflect a rising focus on technology-powered, community-led models that expand access where it's needed increased by 30% compared to the previous cycle. There was a marked rise in projects that integrate cutting-edge technologies, such as artificial intelligence, direct air carbon capture, and fintech tools, with grassroots approaches, highlighting how innovation, equity, and long-term impact are converging in meaningful Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Director-General of the Zayed Sustainability Prize, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, said, 'The record number of submissions to this year's Prize cycle reflects a growing global commitment to practical, scalable solutions that deliver long-term impact. We saw particularly strong momentum in food systems, where smart technologies are helping boost productivity and resilience. Across all categories, the increased use of AI and other advanced technologies highlights how innovation is being harnessed to drive inclusive, community-led progress. The Zayed Sustainability Prize remains focused on recognising pioneers who deliver measurable impact and advance sustainable development analysis shows that around 85% of all submissions came from the developing and emerging economies, with top contributions from India, Ethiopia, Uzbekistan, Brazil, and was also high from developed countries like the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America, both making it into the top 10 submission Food (1,630) and Climate Action (1,880) categories attracted the highest number of entries, reflecting the global urgency around food security, ecosystem protection, and disaster resilience. These were followed by Health (1,497), Global High Schools (1,070), Water (863), and Energy (821).Submissions to the Health category grew by over 60% this year, with entries focusing on AI-enabled diagnostics, wearable tech, and decentralised care. Many also explored tech-enabled sustainable logistics and improved traceability to strengthen healthcare delivery Food category highlighted advances in precision agriculture and agri-robotics, with smart systems and drones helping farmers boost yields as well as circularity in food Energy, submissions revealed a growing interest in thermal energy storage and advanced low-carbon fuels, and broader energy transformation, including solutions for future-proofing energy systems to meet the growing global demand in the Water category explored innovative ways to expand freshwater access, including atmospheric water generation and low-energy desalination, as well as fintech tools that promote more transparent and equitable Action entries addressed both mitigation and adaptation, featuring nature-based solutions, direct air carbon capture, predictive tools for resilience and disaster preparedness, and community-based conservation grounded in Indigenous submissions in Global High Schools reflected a remarkable surge in youth engagement and commitment to sustainability, with projects ranging from AI-powered climate monitoring and smart irrigation for school farms to low-cost water filtration and tech-based approaches to waste tracking and the close of submissions, the Prize now enters the evaluation stage. All entries will be shortlisted by an independent research and analysis consultancy.A Selection Committee comprised of globally renowned industry experts will then assess the qualified entries and shortlist the candidates. The third and final tier of the evaluation process is the Jury, which will convene in October to unanimously elect the winners in each will be announced at the Zayed Sustainability Prize Awards Ceremony on January 13, 2026, during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. Each winner in the organisational categories will receive $1 million, while six high schools, representing the world's regions, will be awarded $150,000 each to implement or expand their sustainability projects.
