Capitals' Alex Ovechkin gives big update on his retirement plans

Yahooa day ago
Alex Ovechkin has scored more goals than anyone in NHL history.
Is that enough for the Washington Capitals legend to retire happily?
Not so fast.
Ovechkin plans on building on that record for a while.
According to DC Backcheck, Ovechkin called reports of a retirement after one more season "pure nonsense."

Ovechkin is 39, but he just scored 44 goals and added 29 assists in 65 games.
He has 897 career goals now and is past Wayne Gretzky and alone in first all time.

What if he could reach 1,000 goals? That'd be astounding.
Even going above 900 and chasing 950 would be remarkable.
It sounds like Ovi wants to give it a shot.
And for what it's worth, he's also third in league history in hits, needing less than 300 to pass Cal Clutterbuck.
That'd be quite the combo to retire with.

USMNT striker Patrick Agyemang completes Derby County transfer

USMNT striker Patrick Agyemang has completed his transfer to Championship side Derby County from Charlotte FC. Agyemang, whose five international goals have all come in 2025 including two in this summer's Gold Cup, has signed a four-year contract at Pride Park. The Athletic reported earlier this month that the striker was the subject of a transfer offer in the region of $8 million (£5.8m) from Derby. The 24-year-old, a native of East Hartford, Connecticut, scored 18 goals and provided six assists in 63 career games with Charlotte. "On the field – I'm gonna give everything I've got." 😤 The first interview with Patrick Agyemang! 🤝 — Derby County (@dcfcofficial) July 15, 2025 'I'm going to work hard and fight for opportunities,' Agyemang said upon his signing at Derby. 'I like to do a lot of celebrations so when the goals come then I'll do them, and off the field I'm really relaxed and I'm going to be myself.' Agyemang scored on his international debut against Venezuela in January, and also scored in a friendly against Costa Rica, the CONCACAF Nations League Finals match against Canada in March and for Mauricio Pochettino's side against Trinidad & Tobago and Haiti in the Gold Cup last month. The striker played collegiately at Eastern Connecticut State, an NCAA Division III side, and Rhode Island before being drafted 12th overall in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft, when he joined Charlotte.
