Mary Lou Retton's DUI arrest footage, mugshot released; 'They think I'm drunk...'

"They think I'm drunk...," an unconvincing Mary Lou Retton, 57-year-old former Olympian, can be seen saying on the phone in the newly released bodycam footage of her arrest on May 27 at a West Virginia parking lot. Retton, a former gymnast who rose to fame with her gold medal at the 1984 LA Olympics, was pulled over and arrested for driving under the influence. Looking visibly drunk, she tries to convince the officers that she is not intoxicated and fails bizarrely. Mary Lou Retton's mugshots. (Photo: Fairmount City Police Department)(Twitter)
The bodycam footage was obtained and reported on by the tabloid Entertainment Tonight on Monday. The report contained a statement from Retton where she took "full responsibility" for her actions. " What happened was completely unacceptable. I make no excuses," she said in the statement.
'To my family, friends and my fans: I have let you down, and for that I am deeply sorry," Retton added. "I am determined to learn and grow from this experience, and I am committed to making positive changes in my life. I truly appreciate your concern, encouragement and continued support.'

As seen in the video, Mary Lou Retton, wearing a yellow shirt, is pulled over in West Virginia and fails to provide her license when asked by the officers to do so. She said she had a Texas-issued license, which was not on her at that time. Additionally, she also refused to take the breathalyzer test. Police said that a container of wine was found in her Porsche. Her arrest records show that she was booked in Marion County "for driving under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or drugs; penalties.' She also got a mugshot taken at the station, which was released on Tuesday.
Lou Retton is a retired gymnast who became a national icon after winning the all-around gold medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics—the first American woman to do so. She also won two silver and two bronze medals at the same Games. Retton later became a motivational speaker and a TV personality.

Porsche crash: Parents, co-accused tried swapping blood sample at Aundh hospital too, state tells court in report

Pune: The state on Tuesday filed additional documents before sessions judge KP Kshirsagar in Pune stating that the teenage driver's parents and a co-accused arrested in the case of blood sample manipulation at Sassoon General Hospital linked to the Porsche Taycan crash, also attempted to influence Aundh hospital doctors to swap the teen's blood sample but failed as the doctors there turned them away. In the aftermath of allegations about the Yerawada police going slow on the teenage driver's blood alcohol test after the crash, Pune police chief Amitesh Kumar had directed a parallel blood alcohol test at the Aundh district hospital to check against any manipulation of the test. This, in fact, exposed the blood sample manipulation done at Sassoon hospital and even led to the arrest of two senior doctors and a mortuary staffer from Sassoon hospital, who are also among the co-accused in the case. Special public prosecutor Shishir Hiray told TOI, "The teenager's parents and a middleman tried to influence the doctors at Aundh hospital by offering them a bribe, but the doctors refused the offer and turned them away. We have additional documents before the court giving details of the evidence collected in the form of statements recorded by the Aundh hospital doctors, police officials, and others in this regard. " You Can Also Check: Pune AQI | Weather in Pune | Bank Holidays in Pune | Public Holidays in Pune Asked why a separate FIR was not registered for the attempt to bribe Aundh hospital doctors, Hiray said, "The offence is part of the main offence registered with the Yerawada police. There is no need to register a separate case against them." Assistant commissioner of police (crime) Ganesh Ingale said the Aundh hospital doctors then did not report the bribe approach to the police. "The fact came to light when we questioned them and recorded their statements wherein they said that the parents and a co-accused offered them a bribe to manipulate the teenager's blood sample. The parents and the co-accused did not specify the bribe amount," Ingale said. Ingale said the additional documents, comprising around 25 pages, include extracts of the Aundh hospital register and statements of witnesses like doctors and police officials. The documents would be clubbed with the main chargesheet and two supplementary chargesheets filed against the 10 accused comprising the teenager's parents, two doctors and mortuary worker from Sassoon hospital, two middlemen, a jeweller, a labour contractor, and an aviation spares businessman when the draft charges are finalised against them to commence the trial in the Porsche case, he added. The Supreme Court has recently granted ad interim bail to the teenager's mother, while the nine other accused are under judicial custody at the Yerawada central jail. The two chargesheets filed against the teenager are pending for hearing before the Juvenile Justice Board. Two young software engineers were killed when a prominent city builder's 17-year-old son, who was driving the high-end car back to his bungalow at Wadgaon Sheri after late-night partying with friends at a couple of pubs in Mundhwa, rammed their motorcycle from behind at Kalyaninagar junction around 2.30am on May 19, 2024.

Juvenille accused in Pune Porsche case tried to swap blood samples: Police

On May 19, 2024, a Porsche car allegedly driven by a 17-year-old boy in an inebriated condition fatally mowed down two IT professionals in Pune's Kalyani Nagar area Press Trust of India Pune The prosecution in the Pune Porsche case has told a court here that attempts were made to swap blood samples at a second hospital to save the juvenile accused, but it wasn't successful. Submitting additional documents under Section 173(8) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the prosecution said that the Pune police, which first got blood samples of the minor collected at the Sassoon Hospital, suspected that there was a possibility of tampering. The police then got the teenager's blood samples collected at the Aundh Government Hospital as a pre-emptive measure, but some of the other accused, including his parents, got a whiff of it, the police informed the court on Tuesday. The accused persons approached the Aundh hospital authorities to swap the samples, but the doctors there refused to cooperate and turned them away, the prosecution claimed. On May 19, 2024, a Porsche car allegedly driven by a 17-year-old boy in an inebriated condition fatally mowed down two IT professionals, Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa, in Pune's Kalyani Nagar area. Subsequent investigations showed that his blood samples were swapped with those of his mother at the Sassoon Hospital to conceal the minor's alleged intoxicated state at the time of the crash. In the same manner in which they tampered with blood samples at Sassoon Hospital, the parents of the juvenile and middleman Ashpak Makandar tried to do so at the Aundh hospital too. But doctors refused to entertain them, said a crime branch officer. In the alleged sample swapping matter at Sassoon Hospital, Dr Ajay Taware, head of the forensic department, Medical Officer Shreehari Halnor, and a staffer, Atul Ghatkamble, came under scrutiny, resulting in their arrest. Besides the three Sassoon staffers, the juvenile's father, middlemen Makandar and Amar Gaikwad, Aditya Avinash Sood, Ashish Mittal, and Arun Kumar Singh are currently in jail in connection with the alleged blood sample swap. Arguments are currently being made in the court concerning the framing of charges. Section 173(8) of the CrPC allows for further investigation of an offence even after a chargesheet has already been submitted.
