But now it can be revealed that businessman Dev Alahan will be back - and soon.
Actor Jimmi Harkishin has resumed filming after his break and he will be back on screen next week.
Jimmi, 59, first joined the cobbles in 1999 playing the bumbling corner shopkeeper.
Earlier this year Dev received some bad news about his Aunt Gita and rushed off to abroad to help care for her.
He told Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) that his Aunt Gita has had a fall and he needs to go abroad.
Leaving son Aadi in control of his businesses, Dev jetted off alone.
And while he's been away Aadi has got himself into trouble.
Last month Aadi accidentally spiked Lauren Bolton with drugs that led to her suffering horrifying hallucinations of Joel.
And things are only set to get worse as next week Aadi shouts as a masked robber dashes out of the corner shop.
In the street, Lisa freezes and Carla's puzzled by lack of action.
Coronation Street's Dev Alahan leaves son Aadi to burn alive and ignores his pleas for help
Later Aadi tells Asha how the lad threatened him with a wrench and forced him to empty the safe.
Asha assures him it's not his fault and he's the victim of a crime.
As he tells PC Jess what happened, Aadi explains the robber made off with £6k in cash but at least they're insured.
But Bernie clocks his shifty demeanour, and worries there's more to this than Aadi's letting on.
Suddenly the door flies open and Dev barrels in wondering what he's missed.
What is Aadi hiding? And what news will Dev have?

Ant and Dec teen drama Byker Grove to return to screens in ITV streaming deal
The teen drama, which ran between 1989 and 2006 on BBC One, is currently available to watch for free on STV Player and will be made available on ITVX later this year. Craig Morris, managing editor of ITV Channels and ITVX, said: 'We are so excited to bring this iconic coming-of-age series to ITVX, marking the first TV appearances of two ITV stalwarts. 'Relive all the great moments with us later this year.' The show also launched the careers of actors Jill Halfpenny and Donna Air, and followed the lives and relationships of young people at a youth club called the Grove in the Byker area of Newcastle. Byker Grove was known for tackling social issues, such as drug addiction, child abuse, homophobia and abortion, and in 1994, the series featured what is thought to be the first gay kiss on UK children's TV, when character Noddy Fishwick kissed Gary Hendrix at the back of a cinema. McPartlin and Donnelly played PJ and Duncan respectively in the series, and went on to enjoy chart success under their characters' names with eight UK top 20 singles, including the number one Let's Get Ready To Rhumble. The show was also the starting point for former writer Catherine Johnson, who went on to pen hit musical Mamma Mia!, and Tom Hooper, who directed episodes of the show in 1997 and went on to win an Oscar for best director for his work on The King's Speech. The show being made available for streaming comes as part of a deal with McPartlin and Donnelly's production company Mitre Studios, which owns the rights to the series. As well as hosting ITV talent show Britain's Got Talent, the pair have also presented I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and Ant And Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway since leaving Byker Grove.

What is Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters? All you need to know
A brand new death-defying reality series begins on Monday night, with Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters premiering at 9pm on ITV. If you've ever wondered what it would be like to watch big-name celebrities like Helen George, Lucy Punch and Rachel Riley share the sea with a bunch of sharks, then look no further. The six-part series will see seven celebrities pushed to the limit as they face one of humanity's biggest fears, all while trying to help dispel the stigma surrounding the prehistoric creatures. The Bahamas might be a luxury holiday destination, but they're also home to more than 40 different species of shark, earning it the title of 'Shark Capital of the World'. The famous faces jetting off to The Bahamas will be getting help from the show's shark experts, but they will still have to face parts of the challenge alone. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Sir Lenny Henry is perhaps the biggest name in the Shark! Celebrity Infest Waters cast list, with the veteran comedian and TV presenter, 66, ready to take on the challenge. Speaking about signing up (via Radio Times), he said: 'I didn't have that cartoon special effect where my eyeballs jumped out of my head. I considered it and thought, 'Actually, I'd love to do that.'' McFly bassist and I'm A Celeb winner Dougie Poynter, 37, who's joining Sir Lenny in The Bahamas, told Metro and other media that the show left no room for any 'egos' in the camp. 'We supported each other while doing something so dangerous,' he said. 'There was no room for ego. We had a buddy systemit was literally our job to make sure our gear was on right, and our mates' gear.' Despite the ITV show's intense premise, Rachel Riley, 39, told us that the series is 'warm and funny' and promised viewers that, while the series has a message, nothing would be 'rammed down your throat'. However, the Countdown star also revealed the danger that the celebrities put themselves into: 'It's mentioned in the programme there was a fatality in [the place we were swimming through] in 2024.' TV and film star Lucy Punch, 47, said that, while 'traditional wildlife shows preach to the converted', the family focus of Shark' Celebrity Infested Waters will 'bring in a whole new audience'. Comedian and actor Ross Noble, 49, concurred with Dougie and Lucy, saying that the entire cast 'just got on' with one another, adding to the family spirit of the show. Speaking to Metro, CBBC presenter and wheelchair basketball star Ade Adepitan, 52, called Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters a 'genuine once-in-a-lifetime experience'. 'I feel I could travel and spend all my life going around meeting people – and very, very few of them would be able to say they've swum with tiger sharks.' However, he revealed that watching Steven Spielberg's classic shark attack film Jaws before he was a teenager might have been a little bit of a mistake. 'I watched Jaws when I was nine years old but I shouldn't have watched it. If someone had told me back then that decades later I would be diving with sharks… even when I hear [the Jaws music] my blood pressure goes up.' Celebrity number seven, 41-year-old actress Helen George, said that taking part in the reality show was an 'incredible experience' after pushing herself to confront her fear of swimming. The Call the Midwife star told Metro and other media 'I was terrified of putting my head underwater. I have a real deep-rooted fear. I used to love the water when I was really young, but I went to a swimming party when I was six. 'They put those weird 90s foam mats down. They're massive yoga mats, really. I just remember this moment of being stuck underneath one and not being able to get out. There was that fear of being trapped.' She continued: 'From then, I got it in my head about not putting my head underwater… The mats were on top, and no one knew I was down there.' While Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters will focus on seven celebrities swimming with sharks, producers of the show hope that viewers will learn a few lessons as well. The celebrities will be accompanied in their challenges by shark scientist Dr. Tristan Guttridge, marine biologist Danni Washington, and shark-attack survivor Paul de Gelder. 'Coinciding with the 50th Anniversary of Jaws, the show will challenge ocean-fearing celebrities to face nature's most terrifying underwater predator – sharks,' ITV previously said about the show. More Trending The producers explained: 'With the 50th anniversary of Jaws acting as a timely cultural touchpoint, the series sets out to reframe the shark narrative – from fear and sensationalism to fascination and conservation. 'Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters has a dual mission: deliver thrilling entertainment while deepening public understanding of sharks and their fragile ecosystems.' ITV is aiming for their latest celebrity shark swimming reality show to be more serious than the 2005 show Celebrity Shark Bait, which saw four celebrities face sharks in South Africa. ITV The Chase fans call for show to make major change after rival show axed
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info The Chase fans have voiced their concerns on social media after the Spanish version of the beloved quiz show faced cancellation earlier this year, raising fears for the UK version. Launched in 2009 with Bradley Walsh at the helm, The Chase has been a popular staple of the mid-evening schedule for over a decade and a half. Following the axing of the Spanish equivalent, El Cazador, which ended its run in April 2025 due to declining viewer numbers, devotees are proposing that the British series could benefit from an overhaul in certain areas. One Reddit user suggested: "The show isn't as fresh as it used to be and could do with them trying out new things to freshen up the formula." However, a die-hard fan countered: "I disagree. The format is good as is. Spain tried changing the format last year and now the show is being cancelled. (Image: ITV) "Australia also changed some things this year which I believe made the show worse and more complicated than it needs to be." The suggestion from viewers to revive interest include a revamp of the final chase round. One commentator argued that the current buzzer system hampers contestants, mentioning: "The guests having to press their buzzers and wait for their name, when the Chaser does not. That's like a solid 10-15 seconds bonus", reports the Express. One fan recently shared their perspective on taking part, commenting: "I fully agree - I still want to go on and give it a go. That's why winning money isn't the satisfying part, it's more about winning against some of the best at [memorising] facts." (Image: Getty) Another viewer suggested a format change to exclude asking teammates for advice on deal offers, saying: "The 'ask your team mates' part is laughably pointless. "For one, it has no influence on what the person is going to choose. Secondly, they all say the exact same thing. 'You could definitely do the higher offer, but stick with the middle and come home.'". Despite these criticisms, the hit quiz show remains a firm favourite among UK audiences. The most recent series, broadcast from January to March, boasted an impressive 3 million viewers, securing a 29.7% share of the audience and ranking as ITV1's third most popular game show of 2024 and leading the pack for shows not in primetime. Over in Australia, The Chase continues its reign, holding firm as Seven Network's top game show every week throughout 2024, marking a successful continuation of a five-year run at number one.
