Perth wine bar and theatre collaborate for epic date night

Dinner and a show might be a staple of London's West End or New York's Broadway but with a new collaboration in Northbridge, you can explore a cultured night out in our fair city.
Shadow Wine Bar is teaming up with The Black Swan Theatre Company to offer locals and visitors alike a special menu to celebrate the West Australian season premiere of the theatrical production Never Have I Ever .
The show, written by The Guilty Feminist podcast host Deborah Frances-White, is set in a boutique restaurant where a group of diverse friends discuss race, class, privilege over duck terrine and a plentiful supply of alcohol.
Francis-White said she did not want to present the play in a sanctimonious way, rather explore ideas 'with humour and heart.' Crab Linguine from Shadow Wine Bar. Credit: Shadow Wine Bar
'But it's important to allow ourselves to explore points of view through the characters' experiences. We just need those characters to be multi-layered and enjoyable to spend time with, even when they're flawed and feckless.'
Without giving too much away, the friends differ in their approaches to the struggles of life and have vastly different financial situations, and as a drinking game is initiated, secrets and hidden feelings emerge.
Prior to the show, punters can choose from a selection of pasta dishes at Shadow Wine Bar along with a glass of red, white or sparkling and then head to the show at the nearby Heath Ledger Theatre.
Never Have I Ever runs from June 14 to July 6.

Podcast host Jess Rowe left speechless by porn star's confession

Australian broadcaster Jess Rowe was left momentarily speechless during an 'eye-opening' chat with a famous porn star on the latest episode of her podcast. In this week's episode of LiSTNR's The Jess Rowe Big Talk Show podcast, the host sat down for an illuminating discussion with porn star Angela White, who spoke openly about topics including OnlyFans, the appeal of older women and the surprising gender gap in the porn industry. But it was when the conversation veered to how White prepares her body for some porn scenes that Rowe struggled to keep the conversation going. 'My goodness. I don't think I've ever had someone say to me, 'I have to prepare my body for an a**l scene'. Can I ask then what does that actually mean?' Met with her answer, Rowe said that she was 'almost speechless. I'm not often speechless, but in terms of this conversation, because it, sort of opens my eyes to things and you're very passionate about opening our eyes to looking at porn differently.' Elsewhere in the discussion, White revealed she's in the top '0.01%' of OnlyFans creators, and explained why porn can be such a lucrative career for women in particular. 'I'm making more money on OnlyFans than any of my other ventures. Much, much, much more,' she said. White described porn as 'one of the very few industries' where women tend to make more money. 'I mean, the women are in power in porn. They make much more money than men.' White recently celebrated her 40th birthday, and told Rowe that she has no plans to retire from the porn industry any time soon. 'In the porn industry, older women are celebrated. There's been a MILF revolution and older women are making a ton of money,' she explained. A game Rowe asked her guest to expand on the term 'MILF revolution.' 'They love the older women, the experienced, mature, intelligent woman. They've got it together. They're independent. It's hot. It's sexy, especially to younger men,' she said. 'I think it's changing. I think that the value of an older woman and what she brings to the table is really coming to the forefront.' White, who grew up in Australia before entering the sex industry at 18 and relocating to the United States, has done a lot during her time in porn. She recently picked up two awards — including Most Popular Female Performer — at the Pornhub Awards. But in a recent interview with White revealed that there was one out-there sex act she was still yet to try. 'I want to have sex in space,' she said. 'I'm so fascinated and curious about it — although even if I can't make space happen, maybe I can convince a zero gravity place to let me experience it.'

‘I've lost trust': Foreman Dan's heated clash with Block contestant

Don't miss out on the headlines from Reality. Followed categories will be added to My News. The Block's foreman Dan has declared he's 'lost trust' with one of this season's contestants, after a tense altercation just days into the competition. Dramas arose during Tuesday's episode of Nine's reno show, with all teams midway through their first room reveals of the season – bathrooms. But there is confusion from Dan and The Block's site manager when Han, one-half of West Australian couple Han and Can, explains that she'd helped apply a second 'working coat' of waterproofing to their bathroom, before the first coat had even dried. Han (left) was given a clear instruction by Dan (right): No waterproofing until their licensed waterproofer was back on site. Dan patiently explains that the coat won't be up to code, and that the girls' waterproofer will need to return to site to apply a proper second coat. When Han asks if she can get started before he arrives, Dan is firm: While she can assist if needed, a licensed wateproofer needs to be in control of the job. Cut to five minutes later, and cameras catch Han doing exactly as she was instructed not to – forging ahead with the waterproofing herself. News travels fast on The Block, and soon Dan is back at house two, this time visibly incensed. Dan catches her in the act – and he's not happy. 'What are you doing? You can't be waterproofing,' he tells her. 'I just asked you, like, five minutes ago: You're not allowed to waterproof. If I give you an instruction, you can't disobey it.' Dan declares he's 'lost trust' in Han for what he sees as a clear attempt to go behind his back: 'You're not a licensed waterproofer; you're not allowed to waterproof. You're allowed to help waterproof, if the waterproofer is in there.' Han (left) and partner Can. A tearful Han gets comforted by her partner. Soon he's on the phone to the site manager to report the infraction. But a tearful Han insists that she didn't mean to disobey Dan's instructions – in her first week on The Block, she says she's feeling overwhelmed and finding it hard to absorb all the new information and building site rules. 'Dan shut me down … told me that I wasn't allowed to touch anything. He thought I was being dodgy … that hit hard,' she says. 'I'm disappointed in myself, because I didn't listen … I'm really trying. I feel like I just got told off by my parents,' a tearful Han says as her partner Can rushes to comfort her. He might've had a stern word, but it seems Dan is a slightly softer touch than The Block's previous foreman Keith: Han and Can receive no penalty for this week-one rule-break. Perth Zoo welcomes tiny adorable new arrivals

What kind of lizard tells jokes? A stand up chameleon! But there's nothing funny about Perth Zoo's adorable newest arrivals, veiled chameleons Pickle and Skittles. The tiny critters arrived in Perth from Melbourne Zoo last month. Characterised by a distinctive bony protrusion on the top of their heads, veiled chameleons are native to Saudi Arabia and Yemen and can change colour in just seconds. 6 month old Veiled Chameleon 'Pickle' is pictured munching on some crickets at feeding time. Credit: Michael Wilson / The West Australian Perth Zoo reptile keeper Tyler Mackay said Pickle, who is just six months old, was smaller than the size of her palm. 'Veiled chameleons are a unique and charismatic species and they can be very captivating for both kids and adults,' he said. 'They are well known for their pastel green scales that can change colour, but this is often for communication of aggression or to attract a mate rather than to camouflage.' Mr Mackay said Pickle was settling into his new home and said he would eventually feast on about a dozen crickets a day. 'Ordinarily chameleons are very slow movers, but when it comes to food, their tongues flick out rapidly like a bungy and they catch prey at record speed,' he said. Visitors can meet Pickle at Perth Zoo's Reptile Encounter. Credit: Michael Wilson / The West Australian 'Pickle has some more growing to do, and while he matures he'll eat up to around 10 to 12 crickets every day.' Visitors can meet Pickle and Skittles at Perth Zoo's Reptile Encounter and classroom habitat, respectively. 'The species isn't endangered, but we're very lucky to have veiled chameleons at Perth Zoo as they do have an important educational role to play for reptiles,' Mr Mackay said. 'Veiled chameleons are very charming to watch, and we hope that by admiring Pickle, our community will be inspired to become more interested in other reptiles and reptile conservation.'
