Ashura, repatriation and GCC prep dominate Cabinet
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting on Monday, guiding national efforts on three critical fronts - Ashura preparations, crisis response, and the upcoming GCC summit in December. Unity through coordination The Cabinet began its session at Gudaibiya Palace by reviewing the measures taken by authorities to implement the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for the organisation of Ashura. The meeting reaffirmed that openness, tolerance, and unity remain the core values of Bahraini society. Cabinet members emphasised that religious occasions such as Ashura are opportunities to strengthen national cohesion. They welcomed the outcomes of the annual meeting between the Minister of Interior and the General Authority of Husseini Processions, along with ma'atam officials from across the Kingdom. GCC summit preparations Following the royal directives, the Cabinet instructed all relevant ministries to begin coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prepare for the 46th session of the GCC Supreme Council, which will be hosted in Bahrain this December. The Cabinet expressed confidence that the summit would further strengthen Gulf cooperation and support initiatives that benefit all citizens of the region. Crisis response praised The Cabinet also welcomed the efforts of the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other authorities in facilitating the safe return of Bahraini citizens stranded abroad during last week's regional escalation. The operation followed the directives of His Majesty the King and the order of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. Gratitude was extended to diplomatic missions of GCC and allied countries whose cooperation contributed to the success of the repatriation efforts. Strategic focus In light of the summer period, the Cabinet approved a temporary shift to a bi-weekly meeting schedule for July and August. This adjustment allows more targeted follow-up on national priorities and international engagements. The Cabinet also reviewed and approved several memorandums, including developments under the Government Priorities Framework 4.0, a transfer of Bahrain's share in the Bahrain Agriculture Development Company to Mumtalakat, trade protection measures within the GCC, and the results of national examinations for ninth and twelfth grades. Additionally, the Cabinet was briefed on recent ministerial engagements abroad and Bahrain's recognition as a leading destination for events at the WOW Asia Awards.

Bahrain's Ashura Model Praised Abroad
TDT | Manama Bahrain's model of religious tolerance during Ashura received praise at a regional parliamentary session this week in Cairo, with Member of Parliament Dr. Hisham Ahmed Al-Asheeri commending the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa for their support of the annual commemorations. Speaking on the sidelines of the Legislative, Legal and Human Rights Affairs Committee of the Arab Parliament in Cairo, Dr. Al-Asheeri said the royal directives to ensure the safety and dignity of Ashura rituals reflected Bahrain's values of coexistence and mutual respect. 'The annual support from official, security, and service agencies ensures that religious rituals are held in a safe and organised environment,' he said, calling it a reflection of Bahrain's 'civilised approach' rooted in His Majesty's comprehensive reform project. He noted that such efforts not only uphold religious freedoms but also strengthen national unity by respecting sectarian and cultural diversity. The meeting in Cairo formed part of the Arab Parliament's general session. Dr. Al-Asheeri and other members reviewed progress on prior recommendations and discussed regional legal proposals, including a draft law on illegal immigration and a preliminary Arab parliamentary vision for consumer protection. The MP said the discussions were taking place amid rapid global challenges, with the committee working to address them from both legal and humanitarian perspectives. Dr. Al-Asheeri also reviewed resolutions issued during the 34th Arab Summit, held in Iraq last month, as part of the committee's broader legislative agenda.
